Did anyone buy DVC sight unseen?

"We also bought unseen, I really didnt know that much about DVC, except what I read here on the boards. not one regret "

I'll second that !!!!

I didn't want to hear anything about a timeshare. But curiosity got the best of me since it was Disney and I had enjoyed WDW so much the few times I had been. I found these Boards and for 1 year sat back and read and also asked a FEW questions. See Signature, lurked :scratchin 4/2001 to 4/2002 :coffee: when I decided to purchase. We purchased from Home and had never seen  a DVC Resort and I must say We also have no regrets :thumbsup2 .

:cool1: Our Home is BCV but have stayed at BWV :smooth: and OKW  also. Although the three are different I enjoyed them all. We will also do VWL and SSR as the oppurtunity arise.

When we came home from our first ever WDW visit we knew we wanted to go back - A LOT!! I started researching DVC (mostly on this site :teeth: ) and one month after our trip we bought at BCV sight unseen!! We love our home resort and have never once regretted our decision. We were able to scrape and borrow enough points to take DH's extended family in 2004 (13 of us in total). Good luck with your decision :sunny:

We bought sight unseen, thats WDW unseen that is. :) We purchased a resale before our first trip to WDW.

It should be noted that we are long time AP holders at DLR, but even still we were a bit nervous going the first time, not know 100% that we would like WDW. Three trips later, we are hooked and can't wait until our next trip.

Guilty.

We bought at BCV direct from Disney without ever visiting the resort. We had been to WDW a number of times before, the last non-DVC stay was at the Dolphin - so we passed the Beach Club on the boats, but never looked around.

I can't even recall how we became interested in DVC - we used to avoid the DVC booths like the plague - having had a previous timeshare sales pitch experience.

But after reading the DISboards extensively and doing a fair amount of "what if we go this often" type planning, we took the plunge.

Since then we have added a VWL contract and who knows whats in the future.

Yep, we did. We just bought into Saratoga Springs and haven't seen it. Hopefully in October though!!

I have looked at the pictures on this board, and it looks really nice. I can't wait to actually see it in person! :)

We bought way back when OKW was new-ish and the only thing around. We never saw it but rather bought it sight unseen. We were stunned when we stayed there for our first visit. We've never regretted it other than wishing we could have bought more points at those prices.

Did anyone else buy at a resort they hadn't stayed at? How do you feel about your purchase now?

We stayed at OKW in 96 and then bought BWV sight unseen in 1998 because OKW was sold out! Man, were we ever blown away!
We eventually bought a OKW resale in 2002 when prices were way low after 9/11
So now we own two great resorts! :woohoo:

We just bought into SSR last week, and it also was sight unseen. On previous visits, we saw the DVC booths everywhere, and I had received the sales video before, but we never took a tour.

About 2 years ago, DW and I purchased an offsite timeshare about 1 mile from the MK gates. We stayed there for the first time this past summer, and loved it. The facilites were great, the service was good, use was in 7 day blocks which was inconvenient (and the steady sales pitch to upgrade the membership was annoying). Instead of having a timeshare that was every other year, we decided to sell our current timeshare, and purchase another one for every year through resale, at the same offsite timeshare facility.

My timeshare just sold, and I talked to the realtor to find us another one with yearly use. While waiting, I was making some of the travel arrangements for our visit to WDW this summer, and come across some stuff for DVC. I started reading about it on this forum, and several others. I called DVC for more information. Even though the price is substantially more than the off-site timeshare that we were planning to buy, the difference is minor over the time of the contract. The flexibility is a big plus, and of course, ITS DISNEY. Staying on Disney property, getting Disney service, getting Disney perks, well... its priceless. We'll be staying at OKW this summer, but knowing Disney, I know that I don't need to see it to know that we'll love it.

We bought our VWL resale without ever seeing the DVC rooms at any of the resorts. But we had stayed at the Wilderness Lodge. Never did the DVC tour. Talked to Megan Butler (since retired) at a booth right around the time they started selling VWL. Wish we would have bought then

We bought at SSR sight unseen...we just wanted to be part of DVC and knew that Disney wouldn't do us wrong. We haven't actually stayed at SSR yet, but probably will one day. There are so many fun resorts to pick from!

I bought DVC initially at BCV, prior to even seeing any of the Disney properties.
I had been talking for a couple years with an old DVC member who kept offering to rent me points to try it out. Finally went to the resale web site, did alot of internet research and called Byron at DVC sales ofice who what able to answer my 20+ detailed questions. Saw the DVC showrooms at the Boardwalk a few weeks after my contract was completed when I was staying at the BW as a cash paying guest.
Definately no regrets, eventually added on points at SSR and BWV making a total of 450 points annually.
A trip to Orlando is only a Disney vacation if we are staying on site, so all my points get used -Just for Disney !
