Did Adam Lambert just kill his career before it even started?

Okay, not picking on you but I don't consider that simulated oral sex. It was more of a headbutt to the crotch.

if i was like 12 that's all i would have thought it was, too. things tend to go over kids heads a lot with stuff like that. and i'm not supporting him or whatever, but i just don't see why people freaked out that much.

Nor should you. But I think you are rare because I think people would let their HS kids watch Criminal Minds and the Saw movies and yet be appalled by Lambert's performance. I actually don't even allow the evening news because it is one violent crime after another.

I find the rape or murder of the week on shows like CSI far more disturbing that anything Adam Lambert did. I censor violence a lot. Sex, not so much.

I actually did just turn on for my 8 year old. His response. "Who choreographed this? It stinks! With a capital S on both sides!" "Why is he screaming?" "Grandma likes this guy? He can't sing."

And like NHdisneylover said, you obviously were aware and do not assume that things, even those on network TV during prime time, will be appropriate for your child. A lot of people don't do that.

As a side note. Adam Lambert's performance was AFTER the final award. People had mentioned that their kids were staying up to see if Taylor Swift won. They would have already known Swift won when Lambert performed.

Yep, we saw Taylor win and turned it a while after that and we did not see Adams performance. I think you bring up a great point about the news. I am a news junkie, but sometimes, depending on what is on, I have to turn the channel. This is another example of the diff between network and cable. I would probably be ok with them watching Brian Williams on NBC, but I would NOT let them watch Nancy Grace. She is too graphic and sensationalist about horrible things.

they do some pretty raunchy things on shows like Gossip Girl and 90210 as well...i'm hoping everyone who's saying "i don't let my kids watch tv like that!" also doesn't let their kids watch those kinds of shows, either.

I didn't mind Adam last night, and I haven't said a word about my kids watching his performance, but I love Gossip Girl, but no way in heck my 13 year old is watching it with me!!! Ok, sorry, back to the other discussion.

Still excited to buy the CD in the morning ;).

Gossip Girl fans have to see this video. lol

ok because i was just curious about tv shows. yeah Gossip Girl, 90210, and Melrose Place...even i don't watch those shows. i'm more into the sci-fi stuff anyway i like Supernatural and Vampire Diaries.

i actually love Degrassi but i don't think they get into the "raunchy" stuff. they don't really show anything, it's more of the kids making out and then the next day it's like "uh-oh i'm pregnant" or something like that, you know?

Degrassi is good for kids, i think. because it really DOES tackle real-life problems and shows teenagers the consequences of things.

did you ever watch the original 80's Degrassi? that was pretty good, too.

Oh gosh yeah. Thats how I got into the current Degrassi. I remember watching the original on PBS when I was young. We have actually been able to have some good dialogue after watching some of the Degrassi episodes. I wouldn't be able to do that with Gossip Girl. I love Degrassi as much, if not more, than my girls. The characters are flawed, but basically good kids. A lot like in real life. You are right, it's not presented in a raunchy way, but more of a accurate light that kids can understand without feeling they are being preached to. It's not sugar coated, nor is it unrealistic. I love that show!

I agree if you're talking about him and that person on the stairs, but before that there was definite crotch grinding in a person's face.

If you saw the AMA's, you know what I mean. I won't post it, but the video can be found on youtube and other sources.

YES
I WAS a fan...but that was
REALLY Lousy singing
an Awful performance..........just sounded like screaming the whole time..
as far as the "kiss" and the gyration...I thought the person he kissed was a woman actually, :rotfl2: but I could care less who he kissed, if he is starting off by having to "shock" rather than rely on a quality performance, he'll be gone quicker than the last wanna be singer...shame, he COULD have had a nice career.....me thinks he has gotten a little too much attention that has gone to his head, shame..............

i think i've become desensetized or something. maybe i watch too much QAF and in the end NOTHING surprises me anymore lol

I loved that show and yes it is quite desensitizing...in a good way.

they do some pretty raunchy things on shows like Gossip Girl and 90210 as well...i'm hoping everyone who's saying "i don't let my kids watch tv like that!" also doesn't let their kids watch those kinds of shows, either.

OM3! But that was pretty tame compared to QAF ;)

Saw a Dolce & Gabbana commercial for watches several times today. Threesome. Can you really shelter your children from everything?

I purchased Adam's CD today. It contains the song he did last night on the show. I didn't think it sounded very good last night. It sounds great on the CD. In fact, I love the CD. It is very good.

No, I haven't read all the 15 pages yet but my take is...

If this was on one of the MTV award shows, then I'd have no problem with it but it was on ABC... come on now they had to have known what he was going to perform.

And the guy-guy kiss didn't bother me since they show girls kissing also but the other stuff was out of line for the network.

trying waaaaay too hard IMHO. that 10 second Aretha-esque scream/singing at the end..... why???
the over sexualization was so necessary, honest to goodness the 'gay kiss' is not what i'm talking about, just the whole thing seemed so....pointless :confused3

Call me old-fashion, I dont' care but it was all trash...it's sad that you can't find good TV anymore. I guess that's why I like surfing the DIS boards.

I agree!! Over sexualization...unnecessary...
Did he kill his career... no
Did he clearly prove he is not a carrie underwood/kellie clarkson type AI alumni... yes...

Did I enjoy his performance ... no

Trying too hard seemed to define a few performances last night.....

Did the face crotch grind bother you? That is what I am complaining about being on REGULAR TV. That and the incident with his hands by or on the womans crotch. (hard to tell which it was on youtube small screen)

And I agree that the network had to of known what he was going to do which is why they put him on late. Which is why I will voice a complaint with the them also.

I haven't read the entire thread..... :lmao:

have we discussed his "in the moment" excuse? Pure baloney or what?

I vote pure baloney. Just say you planned it - it wasn't the worst part of the performance, so man up!

I liked him on American Idol, I really wanted him to win, but not only were his antics unnecessary, but his singing was horrible, absolutely horrible, screeching through the entire song. Its sad bc he really has a fabulous voice. He also didn't need to do what he did, it was really way over the top, he went way toooo far, why, there really was no need for it at all. I never saw any performance go that far even the Madonna/Britney thing there was just a very brief kiss. He did a big tongue kiss but that wasn't as bad as the pulling heads into his crotch, blatantly simulating oral sex, more than once, hands on a woman's privates, wow, it was really crazy and silly. Like others said it was trying way tooo hard. I really found it kind of stupid and like I said I was a big fan, it was just so dumb.
