Did Adam Lambert just kill his career before it even started?

Madonna did the same stuff in one of her tours and she's not gay....so idk what the "incredibly gay" comment was all about....

Well I'm gay and I thought it totally gay. Not that there is anything wrong it, but come on, the leather harnesses! So gay...haha. It just surprises me to see such a gay performance on a mainstream awards show.

I didn't see Madonna's concert. Was that on regular tv last year? Did she have women dressed in that leather garb 'cause I gotta say that looks so uncomfortable. I know she has the whole cone thing going and I'm not a fan so I wouldn't have kept up w/ her. Maybe I got sick of her kissing men .

While trying not to sound like a homophobe (because I'm not) I just think it gave the homosexual a bad name which is why the pp referred to her friends who were gay and were disappointed. Now I would say that if anyone walked up to a stranger man or woman and stuck their head in their crotch if they didn't know them. Save the peek shows for the cable channels or the alleys.

I'm surprised noone has mentioned Derek from Dancing w/ the Stars a few weeks ago. I must have a dirty mind because that dance he was doing w/ Joanne, she was bent backwards and he had his hand on the back of her neck and was pulling her up and down in the to his waist area was to me somewhat shocking too.

Well, I didn't exactly say that most straight men would be profoundly uncomfortable, just that they would rather not watch other men have sex. (I said that the film made a lot of people profoundly uncomfortable, but by no means everyone who was made uncomfortable by it even saw it.)

I find it interesting that both of the husbands who were posted about apparently said exactly the same thing, "no big deal", when the film itself WAS a big deal, and would have been even if the protagonists had been women. Critics almost universally agree that it was beautifully directed and shot, and contained some of the best acting performances of a generation ... yet it was no big deal? You don't think that perhaps there was the merest hint of distaste in that dismissal?

My DH, who is very much a film buff, and who happened to watch it again last night, considers it is a VERY good film, but during those scenes I could see his eyes flickering down as I sat next to him. It's like a person who doesn't like violence wincing at the rougher parts of There Will Be Blood. It's a mild expression of distaste, but it's there.

i think you're looking too much into this. i didn't even think it was a WONDERFUL movie. as i said, it was cute and sad, but nothing we haven't seen before with other types of films. put a girl in there instead of one of the guys and people wouldn't have said much about it.

and no i don't think he thought it was "distasteful". i also watch Queer As Folk and he's watched episodes with me before and never had any problems with it. and that show gets much raunchier than Brokeback Mountain ever did. he just says it's "not a big deal" and that "i know what naked guys look like, i see myself everyday, it's not a big deal". as i said, he doesn't activly seek it out, but if i'm watching it and there's nothing else on he'll sit and watch with me. he actually likes some of the characters on the show, too.

idk what Madonna's performances on tv are like anymore. i rarely watch these types of awards shows i just heard about a few performances and caught them online for the AMAs. but i'm pretty sure back in the 80's and early 90's she had some crazy performances as well.

I understand that Adam is all about pushing the envelope, but he should have kept the venue in mind. Prime time network TV was not the place for that performance. (Prime time officially extends until 11pm) Save it for the VMA's, cable TV, concerts, etc.

Personally I thought the whole performance was a self indulgent FAIL. Maybe because he was so focused on getting across the shock value, that his vocals really suffered? Pretty good recovery on the fall though.

As for the kiss: I actually thought it was a female on keyboards (darn tiny YTube screen) and I was still bothered by it. I reacted to the violent, aggressive nature of the kiss, not who he was kissing.

But do I think he hurt his career? Nope.

Sorry. To me saying every straight guy you know had to look away and following it up with the comment about many people being profoundly uncomfortable is what made it seem that you were saying most straight guys would be.

I think my DH said "no big deal" because the media was making such a big deal about it. Had it not been for the "big deal" and fuss the media had going on he would have probably said it was a good movie but not great and left it at that. I feel the same way and no I do not think it it is because he had some hint of distate at the love scenes. We don't always agree 100% with the critics, do you?
He doesn't say "no big deal" or comment one way or the other when we watch other films with gay love scenes in them (we like a lot of good movies from most genres--I can't watch horror, I have nightmares--and that includes several that would probably be classified as "gay and lesbian"--I cna't name any specific films because the love scenes do nto stand out at all in my mind any more than they would in a stragiht love story but I am sure there have been some).

I don't know about children in other locations, but it is not uncommon for my 9 & 11 year old granddaughters to still be up doing school work at 10:00 pm.

Ok VCR. But DVRs are very common these days. My mom is about the only person that I know who doesn't have one...she still uses a VCR.

I don't know any 9 year olds that are up doing school work at 10pm? What do they do between 3 and 10 pm? I have a nearly 9 year old.

At 11 I can see on occasion and non school nights but 10pm regularly?

What time do they get up for school??? I can't imagine that if they are regularly staying up past 10 pm that they are getting enough rest when most kids have to be up by 7:30 at the latest. It is recommended that kids that age get 10-11 hours of sleep a night.

Did your grandkids watch the AMA's? A broadcast that was rated TV 14.

yeah when i was 9-10 my bedtime was usually between...well...9 and 10 lol. i wasn't allowed to stay up that late, even if there was an "awards show" or something on that i wanted to watch.

My though is if they ARE up until 10 doing homework (my own 2 are not home from school until 5:00 and if it is a night where DS has therapy or dance and he has a lot of homework I could see it as possible) then they should probably not be distracted by watching TV at the same time, right

When we homeschooled mine regularly stayed up very late (becuase they could sleep in and DS was often involved in community theatre which had rehearsals unitl 10 or 11), but I still knew that evening TV programming was not done with kids in mind and I made my choices about their viewing with that knowledge.

But wouldn't you think that the people putting on the AMA's know what is going to be performed? If they thought that it was too racy or inappropriate they should not have let him perform. But sets have to be built, they have to be there to rehearse and run thrus are done. I don't know what station it was on (I watched it on youtube) but maybe they wanted the shock value.

Adam's ok in my eyes. Seeing his performance does not make me any less of a fan of his music.

My kids are 8.... bedtime every weeknight is 9:45 - 10:00. They head up to bed at 9:30, and read til 9:45 - 10PM.
