Did Adam Lambert just kill his career before it even started?

I don't think it'll kill his career if his singing is good enough, but his crotch thing made him look like trash. It was WAY over the top for a prime time show. If he wanted to be so sleazy, he should save it for his concerts and not TV. I'm a fan, but I see him differently now. A big thumbs down from me.

I'm actually pretty shocked to hear that some celebrities and radio talk show hosts are saying the same negative things that some here have said....

Things like: wrong venue (MTV would have been ok). Ranchy. Song was bad. Too soon for him to be doing something like that (needs to earn it over time like Madonna and the 'kiss'). Arrogant attitute. Bad career move etc...

These are not MY words so please don't argue with me. I'm quoting celebrities and DJs.

Madonna didn't earn it over time. Her first big tv performance was Like a Virgin on the VMAs, and she showed up raunchy and higher than a kite. It turned out okay for her.

And that was a perfomance, 20+ years later, I remember like it was yesterday!

Those weren't my words so no need to argue with me. I think they were referring to the infamous kiss anyway.

But it was the VMAs NOT the AMAs, which IMHO makes a difference. :)

I'm not arguing. Sometimes words come across differently than intended. I was just clarifying, and I knew they weren't your words. Sorry if it sounded like I was arguing. I'm arguing on another thread if you wanna see the difference. :lmao:

:flower3:

Adam was scheduled to appear on Good Morning American tomorrow morning. I received an e-mail from their audience coordinator stating that they have cancelled his appearance.

As I previously stated, I personally didn't have a problem with his performance on the AMAs. But, unfortunately, I guess ABC received alot of complaints.

I wonder if this is going to hurt or help him.

Just watched it and it was awful in every respect. :(

Why was his performance edited for the West coast and not the East?
I'm guessing it was "live" for the East coast?

I don't want to argue either. :hippie: I thought the head grinding in the nether region was too much. Then again, I think a number of performers are too much. How much farther is the envelope going to be pushed, especially for prime time? Is there a limit to pushing the envelope?

If there were, it wouldn't be pushing the envelope. :) However, I do think there's a limit to what the general public will tolerate. Take, for example, Kanye interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech a few months back. People were calling for his head on a platter. I think he found out how far he can push.

Yeah, but I mean the sexually explicit stuff. I wonder what is the limit for sexually explicit stuff (across the board)? Is there a limit? I mean at some point the envelope won't exist.

I guess we haven't seen it get to that point yet. I mean, these things happen and people voice their concerns and then the next year, a new performer tries to outdo the last one. I guess we'll keep inching until there is full on sex on stage. (I joke, well maybe).

I didn't find his performance shocking at all but then again I have a lot of VMAs under my belt. lol For those who consider Lambert's performance simulated oral sex, I point to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and a banana on the VMAs. Even Mtv censored that for the west coast feed.

Having searched for quite a while for link to the performance that is still operating I finally managed to complete the experiemnt and show my kids. All I told them was this performance was the subject of a thread on the DIS and I wanted to know their impressions:

DD12 watched about 1 minute before saying "It's a bad song, bad dancing and stupid costumes. I have seen enough to form that opinion, I am leaving now."

DS10 watched the entire thing "It's okay but it could be a LOT better. Especially the dancing and the costumes and the set."

Then they wanted to know what the thread is about and what peopel are saying. About the kiss (which DD did not stick around long enough to see) DS said "Aren't people over THAT already--two guys who cares gay people are allowed to kiss too." This was followed by DD chiming in that "Who knows if they are gay or not it's theatre."

Both kids think it is hilarious that anyone think anybody would see this and want to go out and have sex or dress that way. DD says it is the kind of thing she knows some of her friends are not allowed to watch--she doesn't get why parents who don't like it just don't let their kids watch an awards show on at night.

DD is now pipiing up saying (direct quote) "I don't even think kids would notice the sex stuff or it would attract much attention unless their parents were making a big deal out of it."

I think there is a lot of truth in those statements. We accept the shock, and the next performer is on to the next higher shock level. It was okay in the past, so what's wrong now? It's not that much different than the other performers. I think we all see it, but don't really take the time to see it's going somewhere. There is a reaction to each shock, good, bad, or indifferent. But I don't think we see where it's headed.

It's interesting to me.

That's what I would like to know. That part is what disgusted me too, not the kissing at the end. Do this stuff on cable/MTV, but not for network. I don't want his career to end, but I do want network tv to realize that there's a time and certainly a place to display that nonsense.

the really cute one who can play an instrument.....Kris Allen.......

Jordin Sparks can't win EVERY year Robin, sorry!

LOL... Good to SEE you LilIrish!!!

Frankly I found NOTHING cute in crooked mouth whatshisname and forgot him even BEFORE the show was over.
