Did Adam Lambert just kill his career before it even started?

It was hypothetical in general. No one (not just the dis) is talking about Eminem today. No radio talk show hosts are discussing it. No threads about it. I wasn't being specific to this thread. Eminem saying some pretty disgusting things about women and sex gets no attention.

The only reason people are talking about Lambert is because he is a gay man who kissed and simulated sex with another man. Had he kissed a woman like that...non issue. Had he grabbed a female dancers head like that, people may have called it a little degrading but it wouldn't get nearly 1/4 of the attention this has.

I'm surprised no one has commented about his grabbing the woman in the nether regions on the left side of the stage. He pulled right on her leather onesie. lol Guess that was okay. :)

I don't think of awards shows as "adult" shows at all. They are on at 11 because they take HOURS to get through. Don't forget that in a huge part of the country it ends at 10 and that isn't that late at all. Even if a kid doesn't stay up that late, it could have been recorded for later. My kids didn't watch it because they couldn't care less about a show like that, but I can see how some would be upset. I'd expect awards shows to be fairly safe.
Really? All you have to do is look at the list of performers, and have a basic grasp of their style, to know this what not a show aimed at little people. I honestly think that IF you are someone who would be upset if your child (of whatever age) saw this THEN you need to start thinking of music awards shows as adults shows:flower3: BTW anyone who is upset at that being shown at 10 or 11 really needs to stay away from German TV! You should see what we get at 10 (and after midnight:eek:):lmao:

Wow, I expected porn the way this thread was going... :confused3

Sure he killed his career, just like Madonna and Britney with the kiss and Prince with his butt cut out pants.... sure, what a HORRIBLE end to their careers, huh? :surfweb:

Yup he's cryin......all the way to the bank!
Anyone who thinks that his career is dead better think again. As Robinrs pointed out the "shock shows" of other music celebs. Adam Lambert and the people who advise him know exactly what they've done! Better to be talked about than forgot about!:goofy:
I love that he is provocative and no one knows what that boy is gonna do! Can't wait for the CD!!

I'm sure when he started out it got attention. I think because this was Adam's non-AI "debut" it was being closely watched and critiqued. I don't have an issue with him being gay, I thought that was a woman who's head he grinded, and I had a problem with it anyway.

While I understand the shock value of what Adam did, it didn't bother me at all. Sadly not much shocks me anymore. I was way more disturbed by Lady Gaga at the VMA awards and the Paparazzi performance she did. yikes!

I will be buying Adam's cd later today and will continue to be a fan of his music.

I guess once it got to the west coast they edited it. Just as they did when J Lo. fell on her bum. The west coast didn't get to see that.
That was wicked funny! She more bounced than fell! LOLOLOL

Why are you letting children watch an awards show at 11 pm on a (potential) school night????? Even 10 pm for the central time zoners? I don't know anyone who lets their kids stay up as long as the parents do even if there isn't school.

Since when are these types of award shows for children? This wasn't the Kids Choice Awards.

Why isn't any complaining about Eminem who was on before Lambert. Did anyone hear the Crack a Bottle lyrics, even the 1/2 the wasn't bleeped out.

:confused3

My DD is 14 and out of school all week for Thanksgiving. And this was on a network station. Thankfully, she didn't watch all of the AMA's and therefore, neither of us saw the performance last night. I expect "anything goes" from MTV, not from ABC. I watched it on youtube a few min ago and was really put off by the performance. The grinding the guys face into his crotch was over the top. Does anyone know what the parental rating of the AMA's was?

Maybe you should start :confused3 I don't allow my dd to watch these types of shows because I expect performances that I do not feel are appropriate for her age. Any parent that thinks an award show with current popstars performing is safe probably hasn't seen one in the last decade at least.

Also for those of you who are not a fan, why do you hope this ends his career, why do you care whether he is successful or not?

I do not think of the Oscars/Emmys/Grammys/Golden Globes/ etc. as being "adult" shows. I just don't. They might be boring for kids, but not inappropriate. I watched those shows as a kid, why shouldn't my kids get to do that too? MTV is different. But the AMAs always used to be like the Grammys. Again MY kids don't watch any of the above because they simply don't care. But when they do, I'd like them to be able to watch to see if their favorite actor or band wins.

As for your second point. I don't like him. Anything to remove him from my radar is a bonus for me. I don't want to see him homeless. But less popular is fine by me.

Really, have you watched the shows on CBS, ABC and NBC after 9 PM, and even some of the ones before  More and more are pushing the envelope so its no surprise that those same performers who go very far on MTV will push it as far as they can on a Network program.
I think most 14 year olds have seen and heard much worse than this performance.

A 14 year old is different. Isn't 14 high school? I was in high school at 14. I don't think any of the content was wildly inappropriate for a high school aged teenager.

The rating was TV 14 - I still had it on the DVR.

Okay, did anyone's kids here actually watch it? If so, what was their reaction? Did they drain of all color? Die of embarassment? Ask what it meant? Become gay?

I'm curious!

You posted as I was posting.
To me its not the show itself, but its the content of it, the performers who will be on it, and of you look/listen to half of the pop music out there, its inappropriate for 9,10,11 year olds. I wouldn't expect the performances to be any different.
Luckily my kids are is like yours and really could care less about these type shows so I don't really have to worry.

I just watched in on youtube--having never seen Lambert do any other performance. It sure wasn't the porn I was expecting based on this thread. It was a very mediocre singer who clearly cannot dance (just about anyone could do the "moves" he had in the choreography). The choreography lacked imagination (clearly going for shock value without any substance) and the dancers probably are capable of much better when given the chance. Based on the lack of talent I saw in that one performance, I would hope he doesn't have much of a career. The rest of it really didn't bother me much:confused3 I do not understand comments here referencing children--are the AMA's now aimed at children? The last I knew the were all about the current music world. If you choose to let your children watch that's is fine--but you cannot expect the awards to be geared down to their level. I also don't understand why anyone is talking about the kiss. People have kissed on stage before, right?

yeah i didn't think the performance was "disgusting" none of that stuff bothered me, it was more boring actually. very generic, it's all been done before. so i agree with you, i don't know what everyone was freaking out about.

and has anyone ever watched the Teen Choice Awards?? a few years ago they had a hot tub on stage filled with girls in bikinis just sitting there for the entire show and even some of the performances on that awards show were kind of raunchy(hello Miley Cyrus) so i didn't think he was THAT "crazy" at this show.

and i'm so not even a fan but i just can't get over the people freaking out. espically about that kiss. sorry...but it happens. your kids are gonna learn about it sooner or later.

Adam Lambert's performance was disgusting.
That kind of act does not belong on television.
I agree!

I liked Adam (except for the screeching) on American Idol.

I didn't watch the award show last night, so did just now go watch the youtube video and I'm not sure what all the fuss is about. I really didn't see anything that offensive. The kiss? Well, he is gay, right? No big deal.
For me it was not about THE KISS! Although I did find that in bad taste.

I find it very, very sad that people are more accepting of two women kissing on stage than two men. What's with the double-standard??? :confused3
I'm not accepting of it, never said I was.

all I got out of it was seeing a bunch of fake "edginess" and a complete lack of talent. Other than that it wasn't offensive...I can't believe there are still people who would get upset about any of the things done in that performance. But I can see being annoyed that someone with no talent has a record contract. that I understand.
That stuff does not belong on TV.

I watched it again, and I can tell you exactly where he ruined it for me. It was the simulated Oral thing, which he did MORE than once. I will say he totally fell but recovered quite nicely.

Also the whole thing with the woman when he was on the chair also gross.

When the whole Britney Madonna Christina thing happened that was on a CABLE show. Whenever Madonna or Britney performed on a regular station it was not that raunchy.

MTV is a cable station so they can go a little off the deep end. That also was not a good thing for Britney because things started to go downhill for her after that.

Also what performers do at their concerts is also a whole different ball of wax. You are paying a pretty hefty price to see them perform and at that point you could be seeing anything its not televised.
Well said!

I definitely saw more naughtiness at Madonna's concert last year than was in this performance.
That was at a concert not on TV.

I would of felt the same way. It is wrong to put that on regular TV.

They beeped M&M out around here.

It was a disgusting act. He had a technically good voice (Trail of My Tears was the only time I truly liked him) on AI. Last night was terrible. It wasn't just him grabbing his crotch. It was a lot of other things and I'm sure the OP wouldn't have mentioned it if it was just a crotch grab.

He sounded bad too.

i'm amused by all of the people who "were fans before but NOT anymore!"

really?? really?? you didn't see him wearing the makeup and crazy clothes on Idol...and remember when he performed with KISS?? you didn't see this going THERE by then??

i'm not a fan, i never was, but honestly now.....you all knew what he was about from the start.

:lmao::lmao::lmao:
It is late here and my kids are already in bed--but I will let them watch it tomorrow (I am one of those bad parents who does not get worked up about these kinds of things) and report back:thumbsup2My guess is DD12 will get bored and walk off and DS10 will critique the dance moves (or lack there of) and the tripping and the "meaning" behind the moves will go over his head. I doubt the kiss will even register as anything comment worthy to him. BUT I do not wish to sway them so I will only tell then this segment of an awards show is getting a lot of talk and I want to see what they think of it.

It should be noted that DS is already a ballet dancer, musical theatre fan and performer and fashion obcessed so these "stereo typical gay" things can not be "blamed" on the performance in any way:rotfl:

Exactly! I knew he had this in him, I just didn't expect the whips and chains on a show like the AMAs. I was never a fan though.
