we arrive Sept 3 and Magic Kingdom is our park for that day. there are 5 of us, 4 adults, 1 child age 5. We want to try something new for dinner and we have never done Tony's Town Square or The Diamond Horseshoe. which would you choose and why... thanks in advance... we are not on the dining plan

I would avoid both and get Columbia Harbour House. It's cheaper AND better than Tony's, and I haven't heard the slightest good about DH.

We ate at Diamond Horshoe over the summer and I didn't understand what all the hate was about. The food was fine, all you can eat, air conditioned, no wait, and as soon as we were done we stepped out onto a great spot for the parade. It is theme park food, so don't expect competition winning BBQ, but nobody in our party complained about the taste. I don't eat beef but the others in my group loved the brisket.

ETA : Diamond Horshoe was really uncrowded and quiet, which was a nice break from most MK dining. It refreshed us.

The only negative I would say about CHH is that it is always a madhouse. i love the food but eating there is stressful.

Maybe also check out the menu from the Plaza. It recently stopped taking dinner ADRs (became the designated walk-up when Skippers went to ADRs). Believe you can still make lunch ADRs.

I'd pass up both, do not pass go, and do not collect $200 and head straight to The Plaza or Skippers Canteen

I think one of the main issues is that people judge it based on old reviews now. They changed the menu in April and it is a lot better than the opening Menu.

Like happy said, it is decent food. Nothing fancy or anything but still a good time.

My experience was pretty good at Tony's too though so it might be a tougher choice. It just depends on whether you prefer BBQ or standard restaurant fare.

This is essentially the only place we will eat in MK. If you're at MK and want quality food, board the monorail and eat at Contemp/Poly/GF. Between the two choices mentioned I have heard some positive comments recently about Tony's, I saw pics of DH that looked like slop. Still, I'd go to CHH or exit the park to dine.

Diamond Horseshoe is not always opened, so if you want to dine someplace new, I would choose this one. My DD had a meal there a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. They were not looking for fine dining, but wanted to eat in a location tha has not once ever been opened in overr 10 years of WDW vacations.

I have read great recent reviews on the Diamond Horseshoe. The Dis Unplugged did a vlog review from there and they seemed to enjoy it. I made an ADR there for my parents during our September, while the rest of us go to BOG for dinner. They really want to try it, and the menu looks great. Our usual favorite in MK for QS is Columbia Harbor House. We love getting a table upstairs by a window - it is much quieter up there. We are not fans of Tony's at all.

The recent reviews from Tony's convinced me to give it a try. I have never ate there in my many trips because of all the negative feedback (much more than other restarurants). Lately though, from what people are saying things have changed. The location alone warrants a good restaurant. Might as well try it now.

Although I voted for Diamond Horseshoe its really a vote for "anyplace but Tony's"

Agreed - it's getting a lot of good reviews now. I'm actually tempted to try Tony's on my trip in September!
