I had an idea about the Pizza Plant refurb. It seems that the length of the refurb is too long for just a retheming to Muppets, and we believe that it will still be a pizza joint. So, what if they are expanding the kitchen to build a connected Star Wars eatery. I can't remember if SW Land is supposed to go behind Star Tours at all, which is the area behind Pizza Planet. How long was LTT closed to expand the kitchen for Skipper Canteen? I remember it was a while. Plus, Skipper Canteen already existed as a structure connected to LTT; whereas, there is no building behind Pizza Planet.

I think the timeline is about right for a significant re-theme.

I agree. Especially if Disney is going to do a good job, it's going to take some time.

And were starting the next gen anyway in our family/s. 3 on the way, and 4 between 3 and 5 years old. No hurry on this end.

When/as things get done-we will go see them, down the road as well.

We have walls. We likely soon have even more walls.
Wow, us Florida folk are finally going to experience the walled wonder that was California Adventure
I know I shouldn't really say this, but is it bad I think the kid in the first picture with what appears to be the lightsaber going through him while laying down is funny? He's just looking like "I'm out, go on without me" while his fellow padawans fight?

I find it baffling that any restaurant has to close this long, even for a re-theming. I get that Disney does things more extensively, but we have restaurants around us that have rethemed overnight, with paint, wallpaper, light fixtures, tables, and bar realignments. I get that none of those may involve moving walls or kitchen work, but all of Disney timelines seem completely crazy. I have built a house from the ground up in a weekend, and reconfigured an entire house (including moving structural walls) in a week. Why can't they reconfigure the restaurant in two weeks, and then take a few more weeks to get the theme together? They have the blueprints and engineers drawings, so all the prep work can be done before the restaurant ever closes. It really us just crazy. Unless they are intentionally keeping it closed for longer for some other reason, it should not take anywhere near this long.

Those restaurants can work all day and night Disney tends to only work at night to not disturb the guest experience. This is also more involved than restaurants in cities. It's not like pizza planet was incredibly popular anyways.

I guess that's possible, but I'm not sure it's really true. Restaurants around me are open until 2am and then again at 10am. That isn't much different than a Disney restaurant. The structural and aesthetic work isn't really any different than any other restaurant. There may be more technology behind the scenes, but everything else should be roughly the same as anywhere else. Just because they share a kitchen area doesn't mean you can't work during the day a little bit (prep work, setup, etc.). Around here (Washington D.C. suburbs) they do the work overnight, and it is still incredibly quick. It leads me to think that there is a different reason for the extended closure.

To me it doesn't seem incredibly long for Disney's usual pacing. Disney likes to take longer to save money, to spread out budgets and usually pay less workers. I don't think we need to worry about the amount of time it takes pizza planet to finish. We should be worrying how long it takes things like toy story and Star Wars land.

I don't agree at all. This could (and should) be an EXTENSIVE retheming of that restaurant. That room was open cavernous and designed to sort of be an arcade at the same time. The seating areas were not that large and it was really poorly designed. You are right if they are just smacking a coat of paint then it should be quick, but based on the timeline it seems more like a complete overhaul. Think of what they did with Skipper's Cantina.

Does anyone think if the Star Wars Land is extremely successful, they will take a page out of WWOHP and build one or two different locations at different parks? Such as SWL at Hollywood Studios, and say a new land at MK (just speaking hypothetically.) That way you would have to go to multiple locations to get the full Star Wars experience.

If this is in fact a gutting and rebuilding (as opposed to some new chairs an a color scheme) then the timeline isn't that crazy compared to how long it takes companies to throw up new restaurants locally.

No - I don't think they would. Universal did it for two reasons (a) space constraints and (b) force more people to buy the multi-park ticket. Disney doesn't have (a) and the distance between parks doesn't make (b) a reasonable choice, especially considering they already sell a lot of hoppers.

I think the more likely scenario for Disney Parks to milk more money out of Star Wars would be a resort.

No I think they would just expand at DHS.

Reading a WDWNT article today which seems to imply that Star Tours is going to remain separate from Star Wars land in both California and DHS. Seems an odd choice if true for Hollywood studios

It's still all speculation because they haven't actually confirmed where Star Wars is going. I think the latest speculation probably comes from the announcement of LMA closing and people wondering if the new land would go back there.

It will for sure in California but unsure in Florida.

Agree - I think there is a very good chance in Florida that Star Tours is a part of the new land. I would be surprised if it isn't. In DLR just the opposite. They won't make the effort to move it, giving them the option of "leave it" or "close it". I would assume the most likely to do is the former.
