DH just lost iphone, what can I do? Phone found!

DH is out of town. He lost his iphone about 3 hours ago, he thinks it was at the restaurant. The party seated after them was still there, they tried calling it, didn't hear anything and it is still turned on, I've been calling. Is there anything we can do?

yup use the find my phone feature.
next thing to do is contact the carrier and tell them its been lost/stolen.
I believe AT&T now completely disables the phone making it useless now.

You can narrow the location down to a very small area using this feature. Plus you can send a message that will keep repeating until you find it and turn it off.

He did not register it with icloud. Is there any way to get the find my phone feature to work without it?

If it truly is gone, then you can likely go open another line on your account for around $10/month and get another discounted iphone. That's what we had to do when my husband's was stolen a few months ago. We can stomach $10 extra a month much more than paying $600+ all at once for a new phone.

My advise is to go to apple and tell them the truth. You can probably get a replacement for the upgrade cost...4s $199, 4 $99, 3gs $0. My phone got wet last week and they charged me the $199 for a new 4s and I have only had my phone since November

I'm pretty sure this is only for cases of damage, not loss.

As far as the 'find my iPhone' feature, that only works if you have the app installed on your phone and enabled.

I'm assuming you've called the restaurant .

I would definitely call your cell service provider.

Did you try putting it into a bowl of rice? Don't turn it on (however tempting it might be) just stick it into rice and leave it for a few days. Then turn it on and see if it works.

When DH did his final walk thru before checking out of the hotel, he found it! It was under the bed, screen side facing in, so the light never showed when I called. (It was on silent.)
But thank you for all the advice, he now knows what apps he needs! Thanks again.

YAY! Glad he found it!

Download the app Find My Iphone. It will show you where it is on a map and you can call it and have it make noise even if it is on silent. If you can't find it you can remotely wipe all the information on it and lock it.

Check your call history and make sure the phone wasn't used and tossed under the bed when he started asking for it at the desk.

I second using the iCloud and "findmyiphone" app.
