Whatever nevermind, I am getting into a pissing contest.

I was diagnosed in 1991,and aside of the backwards military,we certainly knew how AIDS was transmisstd and Universal precautions had been used by the. The HIV virus had already been isolated in the lab(86) and there were some meds for treatments..The Gay "cancer" era was 81 or so. My siter became an RN in 1981 just when AIDS was becoming recognized

No I didnt skip any grades I went to a vocational high school where they taught you a trade--we had carpentry,data,electrical,allied health---plus I was in summer nursing programs sponsered for inner city kids by the local community college which allowed me to test for my CNA/CHHA---I was on track earlier than most people

As for you missy, work on the anxiety issues. If I were a betting woman, I would bet that you are just fine. And in a couple of months you will know for sure. Don't let this rule your life. Jenny, who posted on this thread, is living with HIV. She is an inspiration. It's not the death sentence it once was. Chin up!

By 1989 HIV was well known and documented as were ways to prevent it and the standard precautions were in place. When I mentioned the early stages of Aids I was talking very early 1980's. In the early 80's we often used no precautions and Nurses and Dr's weren't becoming infected at increased rates. I still believe and believe the statistics are out there that HIV is relatively hard to catch unless there are extra circumstances ie weakened immune system.

I am dealing with my anxiety, I have no intention of wallowing in it, I came through it last time and hopefully this is just a set-back. I am just so angry at having had any set-back at all after getting so much better.

I can understand that. It may come and go until you get your answer. Just try to keep busy and stay away from that nurse.

Jenny, Yea I know, I had replied earlier that even in the beginning when we often didn't use precautions and went back and forth one week using them one week not Dr's and nurses weren't dropping like flies and how hard it is to casually catch HIV. I was responding also to that by '89 it wasn't new and there were standards in place. It was a very sad time in the 80's when this became prevalent. I held quite a few hands and had my shoulder cried on in the early 80's. I took care of a young mother in 1985 who died from catching HIV from blood she was given in childbirth that shook all of us because she wasn't gay nor used drugs. Now at least there are some pretty successful treatments and outcomes. I had hoped the hysteria over HIV had lessened with education on how it is transmitted.

Well that's just a bit rude. Obviously you have never dealt with an anxiety disorder. Rarely are they fixed, usually one learns how to cope with them.

I am not being rude. Someone who suffers with an anxiety disorder needs to seek professional help if they cannot deal with a nurse who tells them the truth. The person may need to be on medication if this type of situation causes so much upheaval in their life. If a person needs hand holding or coddling they need to get it from other sources; their spouse, SO or family. Nurses do not have the time to hand hold or coddle everyone they happen to meet or there would be complaints that the nurse took too long etc. Sometimes health care professionals be it doctors, nurses, aides, therapists can't ever win in the eyes of the public. Damned if you do Damned if you don't.

My posts as I stated many times before was not to scare the OP but in reference to a lot of the ppl who were saying she was fine and had no worries about what was happening THIS WAS PRIOR TO HER COMING CLEAN WITH THE ENTIRE STORY
Which we now know is she lent him a cell phone---As for her comments about my scaring her because I posted the link is crazy because in later posts she said she has done extensive research on what happened

FWIW, irishbosoxfan, I didn't take your post as an intent to scare the OP. I think you were responding with the facts that, yes, she had contact with a bleeding man, and here are the statistics. Basically, you told the OP that maybe she *wasn't* crazy or overreacting. Now, as a person with a anxiety disorder very similar to the OP's, I can tell you that this is the last thing we want to hear. But personally, I also don't like hiding under a rock and ignoring things--even if they scare me.

The only way you can get past this is to retest and know for sure.

Been there, done that, hope to never have to relive anything so scary again. And I do not suffer from an anxiety disorder, but I was scared half to death. Anyone would be. I would not be too hard on myself if I were you. HIV infection or HepC can be transmitted from blood to blood contact, and its very frightening when you find yourself in that predicament.

Irish - you were in High school in 1986? I was a freshman in 85-86 and our CNA's classes weren't offered until later..like junior year when you could leave campus
