Okay, We are going through closing on our 200 pts at AKV- We had originally intended to use the developer pts for our first stay next year July and just bank our AKV pts for 2008 so in 2009 we would have dbl the points to use- or bank 2009 into 2010 and so on- Well, DH & I have been talking and are contemplating making a ressie for April 12-17 now using the developer pts- since it will be more pts due to "Premier" time, I will need to "borrow"?? 25 pts from our AKV pts- Can I do that since my AKV is not "OPEN" until May? I am calling our Guide tomorrow to see if he can give us anymore advice-
Also, We still intend to go in July as well w/ our AKV pts possibly at BCV, BWV, or OKW- We again will need more pts IF we use 25 of them in April- Can we borrow against 2009 pts? (our UY is Dec 1st)
These ressies will be for 2BR villa and 5 days each time S-Th

Other scenario I figured if we can't use 25 of our AKV pts in April is to post a "wanted 25 pts for SSR stay in April 09" on rent/trade board- If we do - how much should we expect to spend on those pts? Just not sure if we want to pay OOP for "extra" pts.
Thx for any insight-

You cannot use your 2009 points until May. You cannot borrow them yet since exponentionally, they don't exist yet, not until May. You could post on the rent/trade board, expect to pay as much as $15 a point tho. Some will be less but since we are only allowed one transfer per year, some will want a premium price to do so.

Why don't you see about renting a room on cash. There is a discount, just not sure how much.

Thanks pyrxtc- I hadn't thought about cash??! one night cash versus renting 25 pts? I willcheck the differences- Thx!

If points cannot be used, isn't it more beneficial to rent/friends at perhaps 40% or 50% discount off the "going rate" of what it would be through Disney Travel..It seems like the points listed for sale are only at $11 per point or so..That is not alot...

I think if it were me, I would rather rent unused points at 40-50% discount at 'going rate" rather than renting at some a nominal rate of $10-$11 per point.:goodvibes

depending upon which dev points you got, some are only good at SSR, no other dvc location(tho they can be used at DL and other trade places)

Pickles, I guess I wasn't clear- Our first trip on Dev pts will be at SSR- but we bought into AKV- SSR is a plus for our first stay - I love the way it looks as well as it's location- So no prob w/ that- just that April time frame we are planning is Premier so more pts than original plan to do SSR mid July-
Jersey gal- where would I be able to rent at 40-50% off going rate of pts? I am thinking renting is fine if we have to- Just don't want to change rooms for last day- have found we should be able to "link" ressie though- I hope...
& even at $10- a pt- that would be $250 if my calculations are correct- is there a fee involved to rent/transfer? Wouldlike to know fees up front- Thx!

We're in exactly the same situation you are, except that we're going in January on our SSR developer points. We need about 25 more points to add on one more night, or we are going to just have to lose 30 points. (I voted for trying to take a trip in a studio later in the year once I could combine them with my AKV points after May but before August, but the rest of my family is uninterested in going when it's that hot!)

I think the solution we have accidentally happened upon is that we're in the process of buying a smaller loaded resale BWV contract... and we're going to use some of those points combined with our developer points to get that last night we were considering. We're going to do two trips next year, but they'll be in January on developer points plus a few extras and probably in October during F & W. A sort of expensive solution, but it should work! :-)

If I were looking for points, I would post my needs on
Reservations Wanted on DVC...I would state how many points you are looking for..Hopefully someone will PM you with an offer...

Good Luck.!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes
