Has anyone travelled between the Windsor/Detroit Ambassador Bridge crossing by way of I94/96 to Detroit Metro Airport lately?
I was just wondering if there was any construction or anything that is going to slow us down on our way to the airport.
Thanks

Robin

I doubt that you'd have any problem through downtown Detroit...just avoid rush hour.

Keep in mind that if you live in the London, ON area or points east, your best bet is to take the 402 to Sarnia, cross the border there to Port Huron, MI then continue along 1-94 to Metro Airport.

There are fewer chances of bridge/border delays at Port Huron compared to the Detroit crossing but you also save time by avoiding the annoying lack of freeway through Windsor (between where the 401 ends and getting to the bridge!).

Canada generally speaking needs a more extensive freeway network in its populated areas....the congestion on city streets is terrible IMHO. It is easier to get around northern NJ than London, ON for example!!!!

Happy motoring!

Jersey shark:

We live pretty much exactly a one hour drive from the Ambassador Bridge. So London is an hour further east down the road from us.
We could go to Sarnia/Port Lambton but that is pretty much exactly an hour drive also.
We haven't had problems in the past with delays at the border and if you stay out of the truck lanes in Windsor, you can pretty much zip thru to the bridge. You just have to make sure to stay out of the right hand lane.
We are going to be hitting the border around 9 - 9:30 am so hopefully most of the rush hour is gone by then.
I guess we will take our chances and hope for the best.
Thanks for your input.

just got back late last night from our trip to WDW.
Just wanted to let anybody interested in knowing, we made the trip from home to airport gate in 2 hours with absolutely no problems, no traffic problems and no border problems.
It takes about 1 1/2 hours straight driving time from home to the airport. so we made great time, same coming back.
