Hello,

My vet has advised giving our senior beagle (13 yo) Deramaxx (NSAID) to help with stiffness. We started the daily pills about a week ago.

We've seen a marked improvement in decreasing his stiffness and increasing his mobility especially going up and down steps.

Sam has shown no side effects from the meds, but you never know.

Does anyone give their pet Deramaxx, or other meds for this arthritis?

My vet is all about Rimadyl. My girls really like it too, they think its a treat. It is chewable.

My male Shepherd (going on 9 y/o) is on Deramax and so far it seems to help him a lot. He tore his ACL and had to have TPLO surgery (14 weeks of pure HELL!!!). Vet did advised me to give him some only "as needed".

They also seem to have problems keeping it in stock so I keep Ascription as a back-up.

When our dog injured his leg playing we were given deramax. I was amazed at how good it seemed to work. It made him much more comfortable and it seemed to work quickly.

We gave aspirin and glucosamine when the dogs were younger, moved up to NSAIDs as they got older. Vet's choice. He would not prescribe rimadyl he said due to possible liver problems. There seem to be a lot of choices out there now.

Our last dog was on Rimadyl for her last years. It did a good job, but I recall it being fairly expensive at the time. Not that it would ever stop me from getting it. :goodvibes

What's the monthly cost on Deramaxx?
