Dental Implants

My DH just returned from the dentist and they discussed the possibility of three dental implants to replace a partial he now has along with a tooth that is starting to dislodge. Has anyone has this procedure done? If so, do you regret it? Was it painful?
Any input on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Debbie

I'll let you know in a few weeks :( . I had a tooth injured playing sports in HS....it finally has to be "replaced" with an implant ! I'm not very worried...but it is only one tooth so it shouldn't be too bad. Just VERY expensive!!!

Good luck! I don't think it will be very painful!

DH is going through this. It's not painful if you have IV sedation. But it's expensive and takes a LONG time. DH started the process in February and will be totally done in a couple of weeks. That's one tooth (that's in the back thank goodness.) There are quite a few appontments involved; you have to wait months between each. I had no idea that it took so much time.

I just had a molar dental implant done this year.

In May the oral surgeon drilled a hole into my jaw and inserted a metal rod which screwed into my jaw. I had to take some antibiotics in the morning before the procedure was started. He prescribed them to me on my consultation visit. After the rod was inserted he prescribed pain pills for me and told me to keep an ice pack on my face because I'd get swelling and some bruising. Do you know what I felt? NOTHING. I just had a novocaine . I had absolutely no pain with this procedure at all. All I felt was a little mark on my gum where they cut to drill the hole. It was healed over in a week. I never even had to use the pain pills. I didn't even have to use ibuprofen or anything. I was so amazed.

In August I had to go back. They put a cap on the rod. They just numbed me again with novocaine, cut a little slit in my gum where the rod was place and put it on. Again, all I felt was a little scab when it started healing. No pain at all.

I was then sent back to my regular dentist who put the implant onto the collar. I have a just like new molar.

I'm a huge wimp. I don't like pain at all. I'm a dental phobic, but honestly I had absolutely no pain, no swelling, nothing from having this dental implant.

HTH. :)

Ditto what disneysnowflake said. I have two implants...replacing a tooth that was always missing and a tooth that needed to be extracted after a bad root canal...and am getting another one soon to replace a tooth that broke on an olive pit in a salad from Au Bon Pain.

This isn't fun to read. I have a ds (9yo) who will have to have implants when he gets older because he is missing permanent teeth due to genetics. I hate to think about it!!!:(
