Democrat or Republican?

I am a flaming Libertarian.

Wait...does that make me sound gay?

I'm neither....personally, just out for me at this point. I'll vote for whichever person will leave me and my money alone. I tend to lean more Republican when it comes to financial issues because I don't want to pay for anyone else's free ride. I tend to lean more Democrat when it comes to things like abortion and gay marriage - again, because these things don't have anything to do with me and my life and I think people should be able to do what they want with their own life without people sticking their nose in their business and their hand in their pocket.

As for the war....I think we should have gone in and taken out Saddam. I don't agree with the way things are being handled now, so I won't defend Bush. I genuinely dislike Kerry because I was born and raised in MA.

So.....I guess I'm nowhere at this stage of the game!

Independent, leaning towards the conservative side.

Definitely Republican here.....living in the South I get so tired of seeing people who are capable of working living off welfare and food stamps. I see it all over the place. I do agree with welfare and food stamps if you NEED it. I, for one, am sick of people thinking that they are owed a free ride. My DH and I work very hard for what we have and don't see why others can't as well.

Ok, I'm ready for the flames. :wave2:

Democrat.

I think it's interesting to see so many people would rather vote for a President that sent so many young people to die needlessly in another country than Kerry just because he's weird.

Republican; open minded on some issues; perhaps a bit libertarian....

I am one of those couragous people, and have been for six years (SSG, US Army and former platoon sergeant), and that's why I can say we are sending lambs to the slaughter. I don't think most people see, that a lot of these kids out there are 18-20, just out of high school, having no idea what they got into. They go wide eyed through a couple months basic, a couple months AIT, and then get sent out to the battlefield with no idea what they're doing. How many teens know how to fire a claymore or AT4 out of AIT? I'd say one out of ten. Most were duped by recruiters, trying to get college money or a better way of life, and instead they end up lying in the middle of some desert alleyway because Iraq could "possibly have" WMD.

Yeah, Bush likes to show you the SSG's, and CPT's, and higher grades who have been in long enough to know what they're fighting for. But no one seems to notice the wide eyed private wondering just what the hell he's doing with an M16 in in his hand.

btw...I used to run for President every year...but I totally stepped down this year to support one man, John Kerry. I've known he was going to be president ever since his testimony before congress.

Just a little sidenote; my DH is going to be 35 this year, has been in the reserves since he was 17; his battalion is gearing up to be activated soon (within the year), and very few of these guys are the 18-20 year olds you refer to. They are grown men who KNOW what they are getting into, and are proud to do it.

I'm Republican, and I agree with others who vote for the person, not just the party. I will be voting for President Bush in the next election because his views are most similar to mine. We don't agree on 100% of the issues (for instance, I am pro gun control, a typically Democratic view), but his views are much closer to mine than Senator Kerry's views. I am not voting for Kerry because I don't agree with his viewpoints, and it has nothing to do with him being seen as "weird" by some.

I guess if you make more than 250,000 a year it would be Republican, and if you make less, then a Democrat??

We make no where near 250k a year and we are Republicans.

Why wouldd I want to vote for a guy who called me a baby killer?

I wouldn't have a big problem with a democrat in the office, but I want to know what is considered "rich". I mean, in some parts of the country, you can live fabulously off of $40,000 a year. In others, making $150,000 is a stretch. I have to say though, I'm an attorney working on this massive SEC investigation. I'm working on a document production and I'm reviewing volumes upon volumes of documents. One of the documents I reviewed was a sample of how this particular fund could help you beat taxes. The example was of this guy who made $830,000 just off of his investments. They showed how they could reduce his tax liability to only $15,000!! I'm sorry, but I don't think my husband and I, who made more than $150,000, but less than $200,000, should pay more taxes than this guy, but we did!! So, I wouldn't be opposed to a democrat (or a republican) coming in and taking away breaks for people like that.

But, I don't want to have to pay any more. We have to pay $100. a week for our own health insurance, which includes co-payments, while people like my cousin get a free ride off of my tax dollars. I'm all for taxes to help support the military and the government and social services to try to prevent drug abuse and teenage pregnancy and things like that and to assist people who have fallen on hard times, but I'm DONE getting taxed out of my own home so people like my cousin can get welfare and free health insurance!!

I guess I feel left out. We're not super rich, so nobody cares about us. We're not poor, so nobody cares about us. The only time anyone thinks about people like us is when they need more money and then they reach into our pockets. I didn't see a red cent of Bushie's alleged tax cut. In fact, we ended up paying more and getting less back than before, so repeal it....it doesn't matter to me. But, please, don't raise them. My property taxes are going up about $500 over the next year, so please don't raise my income taxes!

Seeing as you're an attorney, I'm surprised that you would apparently be so easily taken in by this. Unless you got caught in AMT, you did receive a federal tax cut. Don't believe it? Take your AGI from the 2003 tax year and look up what your taxes were. Then take the same figure and look up the taxes on the same amount in a 2000 tax table. That's the only way to see how the tax cut really affected you. Simply looking at whether you sent in more when you filed or got a smaller refund than last year isn't a valid way to determine whether or not you benefited from the cut.

You say that you make between $150,000 and $200,000? Right off the bat, you and your husband saved $700 in taxes due to the implementation of the 10% bracket. And that's before you figure in what is saved by the reduction of the marriage penalty and the reduction in all of the marginal brackets except for the 15% one.

I'm not a tax attorney, so I have to rely on the professionals to do my taxes. We saw nothing in our weekly checks. To top it all off, our health insurance went up and we ended up seeing $20. less a week.

Then, we got $2,000 less back than we did the year before despite having about $15,000 more in deductions - new home, increased property taxes, increased deductions for student loans. If I don't see it, it's almost like it never happened! Maybe if I had kids, there would be a difference? I don't care what the reality is, if I don't see it, it never happened for me.

Maybe the tax lady did something wrong?

I don't know if she did or not, but I would definitely check into it. Lots of things could have led to you getting back less money - your income could have gone up, pushing you into the next bracket, you withholding could have gone down, etc. Like I said, the only way to really see if you were affected by the Bush tax cuts is to take your 2003 AGI from your tax form, get the $$ in taxes owed based on that amount from the tax form, and then use the same AGI to the $$ taxes owed from a 2000 tax table.

Our AGI isn't even a third of what yours is, and not counting the increased child tax credit, our tax bill is $1400 lower than it would have been under the 2000 tax rates.

I don't care what the reality is, if I don't see it, it never happened for me.

Kind of a sad statement, but nonetheless...had the tax cuts not been implemented, you would have paid more this year than you actually did. That's what would have happened, and that is the reality.

I guess I can't compare since I was still in school in 2000. The only thing I have to compare it to is my 2002 year and, for some reason, things got worse.

Maybe it could have been MUCH worse. I'll never know. I just have to start having a bunch of kids to ease my tax burden! I mean, I'm lucky because I can more or less joke about it, but I have a friend who is on the verge of losing her house because of an insane increase in property taxes. She's a stay at home mom and her husband is a teacher who coaches football to make extra money. They're trying to raise the taxes in her town and, for her, it will amount to $200./month (yes MONTH) more and they can't afford it. They're talking about selling the house. Imagine an income tax increase?!? It's not fair....enough is enough with the taxes already!

You don't compare what you made in 2000, you take what you made in 2003 then look up what that amount of taxes would have been in 2000. It's the way to compare what you would have paid without the tax cuts to what you did pay with the tax cuts.

Ah....I should check that out. Although, it wouldn't make me feel any better to know I got a tax cut, but still didn't see it. I'm bracing for the property tax increase. I don't really mind the property tax thing since it's going to build a new fire/police/rescue center in my town. That's something I don't mind paying for.

It wouldn't make you feel any better to know that you saved a couple of thousand dollars in taxes? Seriously?
