Delta picking seat/none available

DH and I are going to Mexico in a little over a week and are flying Delta. On one leg of the trip, I have not been assigned a seat and in our itinerary, it has the "choose seat" option. When I click on it to choose my seat, the only seats available are in First Class, none in coach. Does that mean the flight is oversold and I'll get bumped? Or is it whoever checks in last is bumped?

Yes. Check in exactly 24 hours ahead of time and get to the airport 3 hours before departure. This will give you the best chance of not being bumped.

Thanks, that is what I thought. It is our flight home from Cancun, so I'm not sure if I'll be able to check in at 24 hours.

It doesn't mean the flight is oversold necessarily. It means the flight is over 80% sold and you are in the last 20% buying so you get "assign at airport" for seats.

Delta has an app you can sign-in through. It may be worth the roaming charges if you must be on the plane and can't add a day to your vacation.

Don't worry, all available seats aren't showing right now. You will be able to get seats at the airport if none open up before then. Just be warned that you might not get two seats together. It is very unlikely that you'll be involuntarily bumped.

My cousin and I are flying to Orlando and back from different states. The longest part of our flights (to and from MCO) we will be together, so I told her I would get us seats assigned together. Well, it looked like both planes had all seats already assigned. I called Delta on the phone, and an agent assigned us the seats together. Maybe if you talk to an actual person there, you can get seat assignments now. The phone number I called was 1-800-455-2720.
