Delta FF Miles - Anyone ever successful using them?

In reading over the previous responses it looks like those of us from BOS or NYC have the most problems using our Delta FF miles. I have tried a number of times over the last few years to use my 50k miles with no success. Flexibility is certain the name of the game when it comes to Delta and I hope to be able to use the miles sometime before I die...but I'm not holding my breath waiting......

We have enought Delta FF miles for 2 rt tickets. Has anyone ever had success using their ff miles? Whenever I have checked in the past, there were never any seats available with miles. How far in advance to you need to book to use them? Thanks for any tips so we can make use of these.

We have been using Delta Skymiles for 10+ years. To be very successful, you need to check early (331 days out) and check frequently as they release new flights often without rhyme or reason. Before they released the new easy-to-use calendar, it was relatively easy to get flights. Also, it seems that they are releasing less and less as time goes on. Also, be flexible with time, dates and if possible the airport. For example, we have 5 airports within a 3 hour drive. Always remember that Delta's main hub is in Atlanta with secondary hubs being Cincinatti, JFK, Lax, Dallas, and Salt Lake City. Direct flights from these airports will be easier to find. Just remember to plan far in advance and be flexible.
