I used Delta Skymiles for 4 free airline tickets: Aug 22-28 from Newark, NJ (EWR) to MCO. Couldn't get flights for our preferred dates and had to play with the dates to get flight times that were suitable. Could also NOT get non-stop. :sad2: Going down we are flying Delta with a layover in Atlanta. The return flight (Delta) goes to Cinncinatti and the final leg back to EWR is on a smaller 50-seat Cosmair plane. I would never pay for flights with layovers, and I certainly wouldn't have chosen a small plane. Can someone please ease my mind and tell me good things about Cosmair?

If it's a regional jet, that's a nice plane. Sure it's a bit cramped inside, but it flies like a widebody. You'll love it.

Just don't do too many web searches on Comair... and if you do, don't let the accident dissuade you from flying them. They are great planes and I'm sure they check their heading now before roll out...

I would fly them. (Ex Pirate Girl I am surprised, you don't seem the type to use "scare tactics")

Comair did have an accident earlier this year. However, as my Grandfather used to say the safest airline is actually the one with the most recent accident. Between the FAA and the airlines own panic they are being watched VERY closely then. LOL!

I actually perfered the Comair jet over the SW jet from Nashville. Quicker boarding and unloading for example.

We actually flew Comair out of Pensacola to TPA the day after the accident in Lexington. I wasn't worried at all.

Comfortable, ontime and fast boarding. Luggage was waiting for us at luggage pickup. That was surprising.

herc.

With Delta as a whole being one of the worst carriers in the industry for lost baggage and on time percentages, Comair is a little different. Over the years we've flown Comair 10+ times and have had great experiences. Yes, the aircraft are small, very small for someone who is 6ft+. But, aircraft is always on time (in my experiences) and for the small time you are actually on the plane, you will be just fine. Don't worry about the latest accident in Lexington, that was their first and major accident in 20+ years...

We used FFM on Delta last summer to fly from EWR to MCO. We flew thru Cinncinatti on the way out and Atlanta on the way back. Comair was fine.

It wasn't a scare tactic... I figured once Bavaria gave him the correct spelling he'd have a fuzzy recollection, but did not. If his research extends beyond the Disboards he'll come across an article or two. He was already sketchy about having to take a small hopper, I was simply trying to reassure him about the aircraft. I happen to really like CRJs and I don't lump them into the category of puddle jumpers, even though many fly those routes.

Your grandfather was probably right, if the laws of averages are to be believed.

:cutie:

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that for years Qantas was the only airline without a crash. That changed a few years ago, so one can't rate an airline based on 'no crashes'

And yes, Cosmair was the US arm of L'Oreal! ;)

I fly Comair all the time and they are a great airline. While the planes are smaller than a bigger jet, the aisle seats are quite comfortable and the FA's and crews are very friendly.

Hi there~

Just for your information, Delta "doesn't have a direct flight" out of Newark to EWR, this is why you have a stop.

If you want a direct flight with Delta, you would have to fly LGA or JFK.

I have with flown Delta Comair with the same exacts stop as yours. It was fine. I like the fact that our carry on luggage was put in the belly of the plane last minute. When we landed home, our luggage was waiting for us, as we got off the plane.

You are in good hands. :thumbsup2

Have a great trip

Patricia

I'm sure you meant, EWR to MCO. But, they USED to have a flight around 7:00 a.m. that was direct - we took that flight a few times. Continental has a direct flight, but I couldn't get it with the free miles this time. I do not like to fly...do not, do not, do not! But free flights is the only way I can afford to take my DGDs this year. Everyone keeps mentioning the crash - wish I didn't know that....:sad2:

Does this mean you can't keep a carry on with you? Since Comair planes don't have headsets, my DGDs were planning on each bringing a small bag with their "stuff" to do (including portable DVD).

on smaller planes CRJs, Dash8s etc larger carryons which are fine for larger aircraft are often 'sky checked' ie placed on a cart next to the plane and then loaded into the luggage hold. It is retrieved and placed back on the cart when you disembark.

So a 21 inch carryon may be skychecked. To be safe, take a small carryon instead if you need items onboard

I "really really really" understand about you hate flying. No more needs to be said.

Yes, Delta had direct flights out of EWR to MCO, I think it was 09/05 when they stopped there direct flights. There direct flights are from LGA or JFK. Only Jet Blue, or CO are the direct flights from EWR.

Yes, you can have a carry on bag, but not luggage size. I think you will be quite happy with your travel plans.

We flew Comair last year also. The Cincinatti airport was great on the way there. Nice clean airport. I was less than impressed with Atlanta. Cranky people and not the cleanest. Also the trip from one terminal to the other was pretty far dragging all the kids, bags, etc. Make sure if you use the tram to the ride from terminal to terminal you hang on tight. It goes fast!

Not sure about everyone else but with the two Comair flights, we had to go out to the tarmac to get on the plane. There was no jetway. The kids thought that was kinda cool. It wasn't too bad in Atlanta but it was mighty chilly in NH. :scared: We sat in the front row on the way home and found that very roomy and had a very nice flight attendant. The kids all brought their carry-on bags with their "stuff." For the price I paid for last year's tickets, I was pretty happy. Although other people have said Delta is horrible with losing luggage all of our luggage arrived with no problem and was unloaded quickly. I think you'll be okay! We can't get any direct flights out of Manchester except on SW but we can never get a decent price on SW for Feb vacation so finding new cities to connect through is part of the fun for us. So far, we have been through Detroit, Cincinatti, Baltimore, Charlotte, and Atlanta. Next, we will be trying Washington DC which was definitely not my first choice but we got Charlotte on the way home (one of our favorite airports). Hope you had a great trip! :wizard:

Yep, Cincinatti's C Terminal opperates all Comair, ASA, Chataqua and ACA flights for Delta Connection. None of those gates have jetways, you must walk out on the tarmac.
