Hi - Has anyone ever flown with Delta?

Expedia are showing some good deals with Delta leaving from Manchester, connecting in either JFK or Atlanta. I'm wondering specifically whether they have seat back TVs to keep the kids amused? :goodvibes :goodvibes

We have booked with Delta via Atlanta for our Christmas trip and the TA confirmed that there are screens in the seat backs. Only difference between Delta and most of the other big airlines is you pay for any alcohol you may want to consume on board. Soft drinks are included free of charge.

You WILL get seat-back TV's for the Atlantic leg, but they are not guaranteed if you make the trip from JFK to Orlando, and there certainly won't be any on the Atlanta to Orlando leg (as that's only one hour in length!)

Just wanted to say that we flew with Delta last year and didn't have any problems with them BUT we did not get seat back screens. We flew from Gatwick to Orlando via Atlanta in August.

I'd certainly fly with them again in the future though.

We flew with Delta last year from Manchester - no seat back TV`s for us. But we did get them with US Airways.
I liked our flights though and the stopover at Atlanta is`nt bad as you`ve only got a 1 hour flight to Orlando.

Please note that Delta Airlines is in bankruptcy (receivership) and things do not appear to be going well. Of course, with certain exceptions, most of the US airlines are in terrible financial condition.

Lets all slow down on this one please...

Yes Delta are in Chapter 11 but so "have" or "are" most of the US airlines. Shouldnt mean much to you booking and flying with them, they did threaten strike which would be disasterous but that shouldn't happen. I flew with US under Chapter 11 and loved their service.

I have booked with DL from MAN to JFK which is a new service from March i think using the 764 ER's. These do not have seat back, neither do the 763's that do the Atlanta route. I have picked up that the DL website tells you about the Seat Back Personal blah blah but i dont think there is much in the sky apart from the Song craft that have these. So if they keep the Song (who will be no more) 752's for the JFK to MCO then they have PTV with Satellite TV on tap, NICE!

I have approached DL as I rang there "all knowing" call centre in the UK, erm no sorry India i meant and they hardly knew what a plane was. They CONFIRMED PTV's! but their customer services refuse to answer the question. Make your own conclusions

The only thing to remember and check is that if you book with an airline in a chpater 11 that your holiday insurance will cover you just in case they do stop trading or flying. This is not usually an issue with most UK insuraners, and if one does not cover you another might (or probably will), so it may be worth shopping around.

Delta has never been my first choice (though not my last either) and in recent years their service has deteriorated significantly. I don't know if this is true on the UK route, but it's certainly true within the US.

They tend to be hit or miss. Sometimes you get really great in flight crews, other times you have to wonder where they dug them up.
The service on the ground is more consistent -- usually bad.

Oh Dear - I was all excited about our Christmas trip with them - now I am worried that we might not get to go :sad2:

Thanks for all the info guys.

I think service on most airlines can be a bit hit and miss. I use KLM business class a lot and their crews can be terrible - other days they are fab. :confused3

The big worry is the receivership problem. But Thanks to Cochise for putting this in perspective.

Try not to worry to much Tink Tatoo.

True. And if there is a really great deal, it would be worth it to chance possibly poor service. The main thing as Cochise said is to confirm that your insurance covers an airline in chapter 11.

In the travel agency I work with I get a lot of my customers requesting to fly with Delta because they have really enjoyed the flight.

I have also booked my own flights for Christmas with them and am not too worried about the Chapter 11 thing because in the 15 years I've been doing my job it seems most of the US airlines go in and out of it.
