Just checked online at delta.com to see what the going rate for a round trip nonstop ticket form boston to orlando and I had to call Delta because I thought there had to be some kind of glitch in the system but NO the quoted price is correct - Leaving in the am on dec 3rd and returning mid afternoon on Dec10th the price per person (ONE PERSON) was over $1,000!!!!

I purchased 6 RTNS tickets for Julys trip and all together for 6!!! was under $1,000. They said if I left later and didn't mind a stop it would be around $240/person - but it means traveling the whole day! YUK!!!

Needless to say I am now looking into other airports and airlines!

Yeah, i noticed the same thing for flights out of hartford with delta. Do they think someone is really gonna pay those prices when there are other airlines out there selling for considerably less???

That is exactly why we are driving for the very 1st time :sad2: Our dd are 7 &5 so this could be the beginning of a new yearly thing :goodvibes or the very last time we even attempt it :guilty:

It seems that all airline tickets are going up. I did some pricing for my sister to come visit from Louisiana to North Carolina. For a ticket that is usually between $2-300 was $750. I was looking for the summer. We fly us air because they fly into the smaller airports around here. I have booked a ticket at 2 am to leave the same morning at 9 am and only paid $500. There is deffintely something going on. So its not just Delta!

I noticed today it even affected the price of AA out of DSM...see here we have three options Delta, AA and Alegiant...so really only two options if you want to fly to MCO....we did not purchase our tickets and they went up 10 dollars pp for AA but I also noticed they went up 100 or more pp for other "better" times of the day...eariler there were better flight time choices all for the 189 price, now just a handful are 199 and those are the crappy timed flights...so I should have pounced on it earlier but I wanted to be 100% sure we were going before buying airfare!!!

Looks like we may be driving to KC after all to catch a Midwest flight...they have not raised prices on thier flights YET...dh just did not want to make a 2 hr drive but we may have to...at least they have NS flights.

We shall see!! I hate air tickets!! They are soooo expensive esp for a big family!!! ICK

We drove down to WDW from Boston a couple of years ago and it wasn't that bad!!!
We're flying down this year because we got a decent fare on a Song non-stop out of Boston back in August, $496 total for the 3 of us.
Next year???
If the bet comes up, I'm putting my money of driving!!!
Good Luck All,

hey,

found an airline in Portsmouth NH - used to take PAN AM to Sanford from here now they have Allegiant Air

reasonable for the times I would be going but would have to rearrange my dates alittle.

http://www.allegiantair.com/index.htm

Anyways its an option to think about

thanks for the advice

Sue :goodvibes

yeah I am thinking Allegiant now too...seems they are the only airline from DSM that DROPPED prices...can get one way for 79 dollars!!!

With a limo transfer rt my total would still be 200 less than AA or Delta...plus the kids would get a longer limo ride!! :)

There is a post in another thread about this, might be titled something like October Delta Flights from Boston. They talk about how Delta is only doing refundable tickets for that time period right now. Something about the transition from Song to Delta. :confused3

We booked Song for our Dec 15-22 trip right before the prices changed to these ridiculous ones. We got 5 tickets at $177 each which I was happy about.

Let's see:
From upstate NY (1150 miles):
gas: $ 300
hotel: $ 100
tolls: $ 30
food: $ 100
beer: $ 50

putting up with kids in car and maniacs on I-95 for 22 hours,
not to mention getting there in 3 hours vs. driving 2 days. Total cost to drive: priceless :rotfl2:

5 tickets on Southwest Non-stop Roundtrip $818.00
Figure I saved over a million by flying on SWA!!!!!!!!!! :lmao:
