Has anyone purchased from Dell before, what is the service and products like?

Some very cheap deals with extra offers on at the moment.
Just a basic laptop or desktop, just for internet use really, my laptop is starting to work it ticket now and again.

We've bought from Dell, their products are good and delivered on time. We've not needed any after sales service but, like most telephone sales companies, the service is not supposed to be too good.

We've purchased 2 dell desktops and have always had good service, even when they genually made a mistake with our anti-virus they sent us an MP3 player, my friend though experienced problems with delivery with her pc as they never shipped it, but was sorted in the end, i would recommend them again.

We use nothing but DELL at work, and as a very large business customer we get very good service (we even have our own section private section on the DELL website where DELL systems have our own part numbers!).

I did have a DELL at home for a number of years. The only time I needed to call the service department was just after I had the machine. The hard drive failed. The help line was very good once they accepted it was a hardware fault - they got me running round in circles trying loads of tests to see if was a software problem before admitting it was hardware. After that I had an engineer come a few days later and fit a new drive and re-install the OS and drivers etc.

I think in general the hardware is very good, but the sevice can be a bit slow if you have a problem.

I have a dell laptop
never had any problems so far
just had to get a new battier after 2 years

I have a Dell and it is excellent. I've only had one minor problem with it, when it was delivered I couldn't get the firewire card to recognise my camcorder. I rang Dell and instead of a very long telephone call they rang me back and sorted it within 10 minutes. ::yes::

We are thinking of getting a laptop soon (possibly a Dell), but we aren't sure what on earth to buy.

Any advice? :confused3

What we need is a laptop that we can use for Word/Excel etc. (for DH's up and coming painting business) as well as the internet for personal use (DIS / Ebay etc.).
Will also want a good printer to go with it to print off our photo's.

What should we be looking for?
Don't want to pay through the earth for it

I bought a Dell laptop, great service+price. I also ordered the wrong air/car adapter, Dell refunded my money told me to keep it as well and i just ordered the right one. Needless to say i sold the other one on Ebay :confused3

We only ever buy dell :) There service is excellent. My computer is actually second had from my DH 4 years ago and it is still going well. I will be buying my new PC from Dell this year.

My works Laptop is DELL - all my colleagues use them too, never had any problems and would say they are a good choice.

We use DELL at work, never had any problems....However, on the 2nd December 2005, I ordered a DELL PC online, for my father's Christmas, received confirmation back to say we should have it between 3-5 days, after 9 days we still have no PC. I spend 2.5 hours on the phone to a call-centre in India trying to speak to someone about this. The conclusion was that when downloading the orders on line, our PC had been sent to PAUL RUPEE in LANCASHIRE, Ispentthe next hour trying to explain I was not PAUL RUPPEE and did not have the PC, they tried to reorder it and again take the payment, had to explain NO, we have no PC, not paying again. After being assured we would have it in 3-5 days, I called back 5 days later, to be told yes it was deliverd to PAUL RUPEE, then spent half an hour with the person thinking I was looking to buy another PC, December 23rd still no PC, called to be advised replacement order had never been proccessed, would dothat today, but original offer was no longer available - excuse me you've had my money since 2nd December!!! Called onthe 4th January, yes order was sent to PAUL RUPPEE :headache: :headache: eventually after some 6 hours in total on the phone, we received the PC on 12th January, with parts missing!!!! they have offered 10% refund, which I've chased up twice, and I am still waiting!!! Also bear in mind you have to purchased warranty as you only get 90 days with it, you have to buy 1 year warranty, which I also dont think is right, because surely ANY product/Appliance is covered with 1 year manufacturers warranty.

We have had about six or seven Dells so far, and have only had to contact tech support twice.

The first time the graphics card in one of the machines went. It wasn't a big deal since it was a spare machine, but Dell had a new card couriered over. It arrived the following day, which for the Channel Islands is neighbouring on miraculous..!

The second time was with a brand new machine, one of the hard disks went after just a few hours. Not Dell's fault, they don't build the disk - just fit them. Again, spoke to tech support and an engineer turned up a couple of days later with a new disk.

We have just ordered a new laptop from Dell which should be arriving sometime this week. Pretty decent spec machine, very good price! We did consider getting an Alienware, but after comparing the prices "like for like" the Dell was just too good value - couldn't justify paying £300 extra for the sexy Alienware chassis...

Just to report another happy DELL user here too.

Used to have a company DELL laptop and currently using a DELL as a home PC.

The only problem I've had to date (touch wood) was a faulty cooling fan.
