Defunct Amusement Parks...

Rocky Glen Park, turned into Ghost Town in the Glen and then closed. (Moosic, PA)
Nay Aug Park (Scranton, PA)
Peony Park (Omaha, NE)
I remember that place! Didn't it burn down?

I remember we used to have a Six Flags down here in South Florida. It was in Hollywood/Sunrise area I think. A pp said Six Flags Atlantis, I think that was it.

I'm sorry to reply so soon, but in this UNBELIEVEABLE world of PC, I was simply trying to tell a true story of a defunct theme park. The town that it was in was West Mil(l)ford, NJ. I CAN'T believe that this was caught as being "not PC". NOTHING was meant by it; that is the name of the town. I am sorry that I replied; NOTHING was meant by it except to explain where it was.

In Bowling Green Kentucky, I remember going to a park, that had some rides, a trampoline in the ground.

We would visit Opryland too, since it was only 50 miles away. My cousins told me there are some rocks still there. The roller coaster was sent to "Old Town" in Kissimee.

There were two in my home stomping ground of Northern Indiana (back in the 60's). Small but very fun. One was called Buck Lake Ranch near Angola Indiana and the other was in a town called North Webster near a lake called Tippecanoe that had some great rickety old wooden coasters.

AmazingGrace; Please see posts #42 and 44 on this thread. Just don't type in the town where this park was located.

Roseland Park, Canandaigua, NY - It was right next to the lake and we used to go there several times each summer. It had one of those old wooden carousels that I love. (I think the carousel is now in a mall in Syracuse.) My sister knew the owner somehow, and one year we got some free park tickets. I really miss those days.

Thanks for this thread, it's brought back some good memories!

Riverside in Agawam, Ma. It is now a Six Flags, used to go all the time when I was a kid!

Palisades Park in New Jersey (Little Miss America!) and Rockaway Playland in New York.

I used to Rockaway Playland alot. Before P.O.P. the roller coaster charged 50 cents for re-rides. My friend and I would get off and go back on at least 5 times.
I could never do that now!

What amusement parks have you been to that no longer exist?

I remember the following from So Cal:

Marineland of the Pacific
Japanese Village & Deer Park
Enchanted Village Movie Animal park (replaced Deer Park, lasted about a year)
Busch Gardens (closed for brewery expansion)
Santa's Village

In FL:

Splendid China

Those still operating, but with different owners:

Magic Mountain (now a Six Flags)
Knott's Berry Farm (now owned by Cedar Point)
Sea World (now owned by Busch)

Same as yours, but I'll add the Pike that used to be in Long Beach.

I just drove past the old entrance to Marineland the other day. The "splash" from Bubbles the Whale is still there.

Crystal Beach Amusement Park in Ontario...I loved going there every summer and ride the Comet.

I recall going to Sesame World or something like that. It was created by the same people behind Sesame Street, and it was a water park. I went one time with a Girl Scout troop, and had a lot of fun. It closed shortly after I went.
do you mean Sesame Place in Langhorne, PA?
it is still there, part water park, lots of characters & lots of fun
We took DS when he was 5 as a test run for WDW. It was great! We did go early in the season, so it wasn't crowded--
Hoping you have great memories, too! :flower:

Ghost Town-Maggie Valley, NC

Discovery Island-WDW (Never went, grandparents did though)

I went to Ghost Town, once. It reminded me of Silver Dollar City.

Libertyland in Memphis. At least, I heard it was closing down, but maybe it still has a year or two left.

Got a few, my Dad enjoyed taking us to amusement parks

Nunleys (a/k/a "RowRow", because I loved the boats as a tyke)
Jolly Rogers
McGinleys
Action Park
Opryland

There are probably a few more to add to that list. My poor parents had to take the long way around Nunley's because I would absolutely flip out in the car when I was 2!
