Defunct Amusement Parks...

There was one Seasonally open Theme park that closed it's doors in 2003 in Massachusets..

Spookyworld. I loved that place. It's too bad the guy sold it/closed it down. I went there twice when I was married.

I remember Old Chicago from way back when. Went there for a birthday party when I was in Junior High School. I remember how loud it was in there with the roller coasters, etc. I don't think anyone from the Chicago area mentioned Adventureland in Addison (or is it Medinah) on lake street. Went there a number of times in the early 70s before they razed the place.

I remember Old Chicago and Adventureland in Chicago.

Also,
Riverview &
Playland (west of the Midway airport area, I think).

How about Fort Dells in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin? I remember the Haunted House...it was done so well with false doors, rickety balconies etc.

Legend City, Phoenix, AZ

Oh yes, and we went to Dogpatch in Arkansas too, that Wild Mouse ride was a big deal when I was a little kid :)

-Playland on Harlem just south of 22nd St. I think
-There was a place that was out Archer Rd. on the way to Willow Springs... don't remember the name.. it seemed hard to get to because it seemed like it was in the middle of a bunch of expressways

I think what you're referring to WAS Playland (on the way to Willow Springs - near all the expressways). I think the one on Harlem & 22nd street may have been Kiddieland?

Harlem and 22nd sounds about right for Kiddieland which is still alive and well, or at least was, the last time I went back to visit family in 2003.

Olympic Park in irvington/Maplewood NJ.

I never went there it was long gone but my parents went ther all the time.

I grew up down the street from it passed the empty lot everyday on my way to school.

Some of the horses on the carosel in the magic kingdom come from there.

Libertyland in Memphis. At least, I heard it was closing down, but maybe it still has a year or two left.

I was hoping someone else might mention Libertyland. I just had to go look online and they closed down in October of this year. Sad... :sad1:

I think that was Dispensa's Kiddie Kingdom - with the big castle toystore? I loved that park and the toystore!!!

For the Pittsburgh, PA area..White Swan Park near the old Airport

Also someone mentioned Sea World of Ohio. It is now Geagua Lake again. The Sea World side is now the water park side w/ 2 action movies(one 3D) then the other side is an amusement park. The owners of Cedar Point took it over and doing a complete remake of the park. The Peanut Gang is there at the park. They have a website. We took our 5 yr old DS last summer. Cute and clean. They are still in the process of updating. :sunny:

yep!!! I think you're right! It WAS 30+ years ago.... hahahahaha...

I DO remember those little pump things that rode on a track at kiddieland - they stick in my head!

Does anyone remember Florida Festival? It was a huge tent-like structure across the street from Sea World in the early 80's. You could buy a drink in a souvenier glass and carry it around from booth to booth. There was a huge stage with live music and a sit down restaurant called Al E Gator's with aligator and swamp cabbage on the menu and an aligator character that snuck up behind me and practically gave me a coronary one time. I know it sounds like a bad vacation flashback, but it was real!

Does anyone from suburban Philadelphia remember Playtown Park in Springfield? It was on Baltimore Pike.

I also remember Willow Grove, and there was another one off Baltimore Pike passed Media, but I can't remember the name of it, Main Line something......

I also remember the Aquarama in Philly.

Yes Yes, I remember this place. It was a huge ORANGE tent. I had forgotten the name of it. Kind of like a huge welcome center near Sea World. I can remember when you could bearly find the Sea World Exit. *chuckles* :flower3:
