Defunct Amusement Parks...

I'm sorry to reply so soon, but in this UNBELIEVEABLE world of PC, I was simply trying to tell a true story of a defunct theme park. The town that it was in was West Mil(l)ford, NJ. I CAN'T believe that this was caught as being "not PC". NOTHING was meant by it; that is the name of the town. I am sorry that I replied; NOTHING was meant by it except to explain where it was.

I know exactly what you mean! I was trying once to give someone here the name of a hotel to stay at in New York city and it was the Mi**ford Plaza and it was omitted! But anyway, getting back to Jungle habitat, I used to work there in the 70's when I went to high school in THAT town! It was great, I got to work with the dolphins and my Dad worked there too.

Just thought of 2 more here in the Houston/Galveston area. Who remembers Sea Arama? It was so cool. I loved going there as a kid. Then there was the Hannah Baraberra park--its now Splash Town but it was fun to take my young cousin there way back.

in northern california add santa's village and frontier village ("the fastest fun in the west" ). marine world became marine world/africa usa became six flags marine world, is becoming...(? it's down the road aways and the city of vallejo is looking into buying it from the current company).

There is still a "Santas Villiage" exit on 17 going throught the Santa Cruz mountains.

Barkley, do you remember that Vallejo was not the original home to Marine World? It was in Redwood City. I feel old.

Went here all the time. My Aunt lived very close. My favorite ride was the Boomerang.

There was also a place called The Land of Make Believe (or something like that).

I went to Ghost Town, once. It reminded me of Silver Dollar City.

A group of local Maggie Valley investors are negotiating to buy and re-open Ghost Town with an anticipated opening date of May 06'. Whether this pans out or not is still in question. I rode by Ghost Town about 3 weeks ago and admired the red devil roller coaster hanging off the side of the mountain. I love that ride.

Not now. I drive by the exit pretty frequently, and it's been completely closed for either 2 or 3 seasons. At the end the chairlift was closed and the train had closed already, so they were having to shuttle bus people up the hill and it took forever. Pretty much all the rides were deemed unsafe...Plenty of signs up though!

I miss the Heritage USA waterpark in Charlotte, NC.

There was also a small amusement park with a small woodie in N. Myrtle Beach, SC.

Also Magic Harbor in Myrtle Beach. I spent hours on the Black Widow coster at Magic Harbor as a kid.

Purchase price is $7 million, expected to run $5-6 million to rehab! The owner has kept many of the major rides serviced so it will mostly be cosmetic changes needed. Gonna put a whole new chairlift in if the purchase goes thru. That thing is freakin scary.

Also Magic Harbor in Myrtle Beach. I spent hours on the Black Widow coster at Magic Harbor as a kid.

I was just reading about this park the other day when I was looking at MB stuff. My HS band went there in the 80's and there was a wreck on the log flume when we were on there. 2 logs hit each other b/c the first one got stuck going around a curve. My BF was in one of them and had to go to the hospital. She hurt her nose and arm, but it wasn't too bad. We were in the logs behind them and had to walk out on the catwalk. The rescue people said they called it Tragic Harbor. The web site I was reading about it said it was haunted.

I remember Old Chicago from way back when. Went there for a birthday party when I was in Junior High School. I remember how loud it was in there with the roller coasters, etc. I don't think anyone from the Chicago area mentioned Adventureland in Addison (or is it Medinah) on lake street. Went there a number of times in the early 70s before they razed the place.

Here in CT we had a sprawling area on Long Island Sound called Savin Rock and a Wild West town north of New Haven [can't remember the name].

Does anyone remember the wax museum in Orlando across the street from Sea World? It was called "The Star's Hall of Fame".

I was going to list Palasaides and Freedomland USA but other people beat me to them. I remember seeing Paul Anka live at Freedomland, he took my cousin out of the crowd and sang a song to her up on the stage.

I remember that place, went there when I was a kid - I had forgotten all about that place, thanks for reminding me.

I used to love Circus World. The Roaring Tiger was an awesome coaster. I have a great picture of my dsis and I there with our faces painted to look like clowns.

Other, local long-gone parks: Whalom Park (for a whale of a time!) in Lunenburg, MA, and Rocky Point in Warwick RI. Whalom Park is still there, and some of the ride structures are still in place, though everything is covered with weeds and rust. It's really sad. I think they built housing where Rocky Point used to be.

You beat me too it! Just when I thought that no one would have posted Bensons Animal farm. I remember my brother got licked by some animal and he smelled terrible for the rest of the day. I've been to Whalom park to I don't really remember it. I do have the whale magnet on my fridge though.

OLD CHICAGO!! We went a number of times... a friend of mine upchucked on the swings... laugh... it was his first date with his now wife...

-There was a place that was out Archer Rd. on the way to Willow Springs... don't remember the name.. it seemed hard to get to because it seemed like it was in the middle of a bunch of expressways..

Never made it to Riverview... It was already TOO seedy when I was little and my folks wouldn't take us.

Was Magic Harbor the one attached to the campground? If so we would stay at the campground next store - I think it is called Lakewood? We would walk over next door to an amusement park - it was a load of fun too!
