I certainly don't understand this statement, a regular cleaning is only 100 - 200 dollars at most for the dentist. One quad of deep cleaning is atleast 300 dollars here, so the dentist or periodontist will be making MORE money! That is why they have us do it!!

It is very rare that a Dentist or Periodontist does deep cleaning. I have many dental friends throughout the US (thanks to the ADA and ADHA)and most dentist have their hygienist do these procedures.

Even the insurance I have this time says I have to go to a periodontist.

Well, Skiwee looks like you just might be getting reamed! There is no way in heck a normal person (even with baby teeth) needs a deep cleaning every 4 years. Guess what I used to do before I got my hygiene license? I did the insurance for my dad - and they NEVER asked for WHO did the deep cleaning, all the Insurance co. wants is a CODE so they can charge the procedure!![]()

I have a quick question that I know someone on these board will be able to help me with. I took DD who is 15 to the dentist today for her annual dental checkup. We do this every year before school starts. This year we went to the same clinic, but we now have a new dentist. Anyway, after DD had her teeth cleaned the dentist came in and looked at her teeth and told me that she needed to have them "Deep Cleaned". Okay, this child has never had a cavity in her life, never had any dental problems that I'm aware of, doesn't even need braces.
So the question is: Have any of you had this done, does it hurt, what should I expect afterwards, is this just a scam to get into my pocketbook, etc....

What is your problem? Don't you have other boards to harrass people on?

Just pointing out how funny it was that you were making fun of people, while spelling the word wrong. It just gave me a little tickle. Next time you should look the word up before you decide the rest of society doesn't know what it means.

Um, thanks for the personal attack!!! I am not trying to harrass anybody! I just want everyone to get the CORRECT information! Hello! I do this for a living! I want everyone on the DIS to get the best info possible - and I don't know what other boards you are referring to - maybe you have me confused with someone else!![]()

For what it's worth, I completed my "deep cleaning" last month. I had two quad's done at a time by a hygienist. The right side one week and then the left the following week. Both times my gums were not numbed and both times I really didn't need it. It's not the most pleasant thing to have done but IMHO it really wasn't that bad. I was slightly sore for an hour or so afterwards but was fine by the next morning. Everyone has different experiences but mine wasn't painful at all
