Dedicated Rooms/Other BWV Helpful Hints

Hi All,

As a new member of DVC, and only a one time visitor to BWV, I don't know what people on the boards mean when they mention a dedicated room. Would someone please be kind enough to explain this to me?

And is there anything else I should know about BWV rooms or the resort itself that I might be unaware of? I have all the info from the Official, DIS and WDWIG websites, but I am sure there are things that those of you who are "experts" can tell me that aren't on those sites. And/or is there an unofficial website dedicated to BWV that anyone can recommend?

I do understand about different views (boardwalk, perferred and standard), H/A rooms and that some rooms have larger balconies than others. And I know about the longgggg walk to the elevators from some rooms, because I was one of the "trekkers" when I stayed there.

I appreciate any helpful hints I can get. I was a Polynesian nut for a long time, I know the best rooms and views as well as knowing the layout there. It took some time, but eventually I felt "In the know" when it came to available choices at the Poly. I feel sort of lost at BWV now, so anything anyone can do to orient me and let me in on anything I might not know about would be greatly appreciated.

And if anyone decides to pay the Polynesian a visit give me a yell in a PM (since it's not a DVC topic) I have lots of helpful hints and a great website to refer that I'll be happy to share.

There are no dedicated two bedrooms at BWV.

What this means is that every two bedroom can be rented either as a two bedroom, or as a one bedroom and a studio.

All BWV studios have a pull out couch and a queen bed - meaning all BWV two bedrooms have a pull out couch and queen bed in the second bedroom (no two bed units).

All BWV studios (all DVC studios) have a kitchenette, meaning the second bedroom in a BWV two bedroom will have its own fridge, coffee maker and microwave.

And, of course, all studios have a door to the hallway. Meaning all BWV two bedrooms have a door to the hallway from the studio.

In some ways this is very nice - staying with other adults and they get their own door and their own coffee maker. In some ways, it would be nice to be able to sleep four (or two in seperate beds) without the hideabed, and having a door that goes outside may not be what you were looking for when traveling with kids.

for teenagers is they can have freedom to walk around the boardwalk area in safety and with a bw view room you can still keep an eye.

As to room views if the walk is not a problem for you or your family, we experienced one of my favorite rooms last year at the end of one of the hallways. It was a preferred view and at first I was disappointed we didn't get a Boardwalk view (this is before they would guarantee your view) and then we walked in and it was a dedicated one bdr at the end of the building so there was an extra window in the living room and the view was out to the canal going to MGM overlooking the bridge and Dolphin. In the evenings it was so peaceful and we would sometimes look out and not see anyone out walking, just the ducks on the canal. One night we even saw a cat come out from the bushes looking for some food.
We usually try and get a standard view to save the points and even those views I have been happy with. I basically have learned I have not been disappointed with what they have given us. The only time it came close was our last trip in a standard view. We had one of the 1 bdrs fairly close to the entrance on the 4th floor that didn't have a balcony off the bedroom, only off the living room. I did miss that balcony in the evenings. Other than that I have no complaints.

Yes, you are correct.

BWV has only lock-offs, which are a combination of a 1BR and a studio with a connecting door. That way they can be reserved separately as two accommodations or as a 2BR combination. If reserved separately, the connecting door locks.

And for others who are new to BWV and might not already know---you will only get a boardwalk view if you asked for it and it was confirmed at the time of your reservation. Otherwise, preferred view means pool, gardens, or canal, which can be requested but there is no guarantee whiich view you will get.
