Just a quick question.......can you decorate your stateroom if someone in your family is celebrating a birthday? I know you can order something through Disney but I wanted to do it myself to cut down on the cost. How do you do it if you can't use tape? I know you can use magnets on the door, which I plan on doing, but I am really wondering about the room. I didn't plan on doing too much......maybe a banner and some streamers.

My 1st cruise so don't quote me but I think i read somewhere that walls are magnetic

You'll probably need to bring string and suction cups and do some on-the-spot engineering. You could maybe tie a banner to the curtains somehow. :confused3

I never realized the walls were magnetic too. :cool1: Thanks for help.

I'm assuming for all the ships, right;)

Anyone have issues flying with magnets in checked luggage??

No. I usually have a LOT of magnets, so I break them up between the checked bags and the carry on bags. No problem with either.

Yes you can! In fact, if you purchase the birthday package (my wife did for me) your room will be nicely decorated for you when you arrive... nice suprise :)

Painters tape isn't allowed either. We tried to but our stateroom hostess told us we couldn't. We were also going to decorate ourselves to cut on cost. Instead I went crazy with the magnet decorations on the outside of the door. Don't forget they don't allow over the door hangers. Hope you have fun finding stuff!

I was wondering the same thing. Does anyone know if you can use command hooks?

The walls are not "magnetic" - They are metal as the doors.

So yes, you can use anything magnetic to attach to the walls... :)

You can use suction type hooks but nothing that sticks nor any type of tape.

I don't believe you are allowed to use tape of any kind including painters tape.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You're not wrong.

No problems with painters tape, FYI.

Has anyone used fun tak or removable poster putty?

The DCL website says (bolding mine):

Q:Can I decorate my stateroom door or hang items over the doors?
A:Guests are welcome to place magnetic signs on their stateroom doors. Please note that Concierge rooms on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy do not have metal doors.

Guests are prohibited from affixing items to stateroom doors utilizing tape or any adhesive, including removable gel adhesives. We have found that these adhesives damage the finish on the stateroom doors and therefore ask that guests limit door decoration to those of the magnetic variety.

Concurrently, we ask that guests not use over-the-door hanging organizers as they have been found to scratch and/or disfigure stateroom doors and trim.

Guests found with damaged doors are assessed a $100 damage fee per incident to cover the cost of repairs.

I'd think that the word "any" means and all methods of attachment that are adhesive, glue-based, or sticky.
