Decorating your resort room?

Just got back last Thursday. I'm sad to say, I never saw another decorated window at Pop Century besides mine. Granted I didn't canvas the entire property. I was facing the lake, so I don't think minewas seen by too many either. I had a whiteboard on my door and it never got any messages. I was bummed. But here's my window (day and night). I made the big cling myself, rolled it into a tube to bring it... so it's reusable for my next trip. The lights were long enough that I didn't need an extension cord. I used Command adhesive hooks. I must say though, when I pulled my magnetic white board off the door, it did leave a little residue. I wonder if the sun might have had something to do with it. It got up to 80 degrees last week. I felt sort of bad that you could faintly see the square where the magnet stuck to the door.

Very Cute! So how long were the light strings? I am very excited to decorate and I'm doing it weather people can see it or not! :)

When I was at Pop last month my magnetic door signs left some marks on the door also. The marks weren't all that noticible unless you were looking speficially for them. I wonder if they have been painted recently? Or it could have been the humidity. Next trip I will have to figure out how to prevent the marks. I have never had it happen before - hmmmm.

BTW, how did you make the giant cling?

The light strand was 100 lights long. Just the regular ones you buy for your tree at WalMart.

For the "cling" I just went to WalMart to the fabric section and purchased a one-yard length of clear vinyl. It hangs near the cutting tables usually and is sold as table covering. Flannel-backed picnic table vinyl is on the same rack. Then I drew what I wanted on a poster board in black sharpie and traced it in different colors of sharpie on the vinyl. I had to tape the vinyl to the window because it was just too heavy to cling to it on its own. I kept the paper backing that the vinyl is sold with so I could roll it up and put in in a tube without it sticking to itself. Easy to travel with that way!

Hey Anne's family- how did you like your room as far as view and noise? We asked for a room facing the lake on the back of the 60's(from what I remember, it's been a while!). Wondering how you liked it-thanks!!

Hey Everyone :) Great idea! Door decorating :) I did this for PPH! I got a few nice comments, though it was a last minute thing, so I also had to use kleenex tape to put it up! (Things I'll do for the DIS...:worship: ) Anyways, does anyone know if any (and if there are any which ones) hotels have magnetic doors?

Thanks,

If I am not mistaken they all are metal doors because of fire safety. I know that SSR is as that is the first place I decorated at (Dec) and that was my next to last visit.

Loved the lake view room. It was very, very quiet. I also always get 4th floor so there's no on above me. Just walking to the back of Pop Century toward my room was calming. The rooms themselves can be a bit loud though. I could even hear the neighbor pulling toilet paper off the roll and closing their armoire drawers. I'm pretty sensitive to sounds though. I'd do that room again in a heartbeat.

I am so excited!! I just went to Giant Eagle to pick up a few things. I checked out the Christmas clearance section and found a packet of the hooks for the lights for .32 cents!!!!:thumbsup2 I am going to start on my window decorations today while the kids are napping:banana:

OK, here is my poster for our room window. How do you think I can get this to stay in the window? Tape?

BTW, I blacked out our last name and names on the bottom (just left the name on the main part of the sign). Don't like the idea of our full names on the internet. Really questioning about having them in our window too but :confused3

What do you think?

TIA

I did something similar for a friends bday... and used packing tape when I stuck it to her door at CSR. I dog eared the corners so it would be easy for her to remove it when she was ready to leave.

I understand about the last name. I was wary about just putting my screen name on mine. I did anyway. Then a DIS lurker showed up at a meet we had put together. This person never introduced themselves beforehand to let us know a little about them. Just showed up. Then showed up at another meet we'd set up. Then showed up at a lunch. Never did hear a screen name or last name from this person. I took down my window decoration two days before I left for fear that this person would show up at my room. They were staying at the same resort.

It was probably not a problem at all, but I was travelling alone and didn't want to take chances. Your poster is cute, though!

Ok That's kinda creepy :scared1: . I don't think I would use last names.

hlane the poster is adorable. Have you thought about using a hole punch in the two top corners of the poster and suction cups on the windows? The little suction cups work wonderfully. I'll be using them in two weeks to decorate our two windows.

WOW!! I've been decorating our windows every year we go for Pop Warner. The funny thing is, with Pop Warner, we are told by the resort NOT to use any kind of tape in the windows. We had to use suction cups only. In fact, we had our local and regional banner in the window and was told to take it down, but that was only one year that we stayed at the Carabean and there was teams causing problems there.
This year, we will decorated with green and white Christmas lights (DD's school colors) and some cut outs of dancers. We are going for the UDA national competition.
The last time we were in Disney (2005) was for Pop Warner. My DD's dance team had a theme of Hollywood. I went to my local party store and got the HUGE cut outs for the window. We used suction cups, so we didn't have to worry about tape. It was soooo cool looking!! DD also brings a couple of stuffed animals with her every year. Mousekeeping had them playing cards one time we came back. We almost died laughing!!! It looked like Minnie was winning! LOL

Was just looking at my Disney scrapbook and the windows I decorated 1 Tink and 1 Mickey! This year it's Valentine theme I have the cling sheets red lights ,a hanging decoration red MHs and red stars.Gotta check I have the suction cups for the lights. So anybody staying at Pop should be able to find me!!

We just got back and I had a lot of great reactions from my windows and door. My son loved having the flashing lights on. When I took them down on the last day he was pretty upset. My mom also had to call us and ask what room number was ours because I took all the stuff down and she couldn't find our room. :rotfl2: I'll post pictures as soon as I get them loaded!

Here are the pictures from my window and door and my moms window which I did and her door which my friend surprised us with a sign.

This is my door.

I can't find a picture of my moms window but I know I have one somewhere. You can kind of see it behind my DH. I'll have to keep looking for it.

Very cute! What did you used to hang the things on the door? Did it hold well?

I held the poster board on the first door up with magnets and then the Mickey Heads up with tape. The other poster is hung up with tape. We didn't have any problems with the stuff coming off and we had a couple of days where it was pretty windy.
