deck chairs??!!

Ok, so I have only been on a 4 day wonder and we didn't have 2 minutes to lounge by the pool because of all the fun stuff we did. However, on the 7 night I am hoping for some quality "chair" time. With all I have read about saving chairs I am beginning to think that I am going to have a hard time finding a deck lounger....is this true every where or only near the family pools?

Certainly there is deck chair hogging by the family pool, but the Adult Cove area is no better either. Deck 10 has plenty of chairs because it is less convenient to services (pools, bars, etc) but I found it a great place to hang with my teen since she couldn't go to the adult cove and didn't want any part of the "family" or "kids" areas.

On last 2 cruises we did not have a problem finding places to sit ............. We did not do the kids pool area .........................

we didn't have any problem finding chairs on our cruise. But I suppose it depends on how close you want to be to the pool, etc.

Call me rude, when i'm at a pool (even on land!) and need a chair to actually SIT in, I just pick one that appears to not be in use (towels alone do not reserve a chair in my book - you've gotta have one or more of the following on it: bag, sunglasses, book, drink or small children! Usually I'm gone again before the person even comes back - because often towels are left behind and the chair isn't really 'saved' so much as 'abandoned'. And if they do come back, oh well, I just move my fanny to the next available one.

DCL does seem to be better about removing objects from chairs that aren't being used than other places I've been. They at least try.

On our recent Western cruise, my husband and I spent a lot of time in the adult pool area. Sometimes the loungers were all taken, but we got lucky and seemed to have the right timing just when someone was getting ready to leave. It's hit or miss, but don't let that stop you from enjoying the area. It's a great area to relax!

I am the same way - especially at Disney and on the cruise where they repeatedly request for you to not save chairs. If I can't find one to sit in, I look for ones where it appears to be one family with no one sitting there (single pair of shoes under each chair in a row, and a towel on each, maybe one bag in the middle of 4 chairs) and sit in it. I have found that in the majority of cases, I too am gone again before they come back. In the cases that I am not, they usually only come back for the towel and to put on shoes and LEAVE, so no harm no foul. In the few cases where they come to sit, the entire family never wants to sit, so it is fine. I just comment that I hadn't seen anyone use it in a while and all of the others were occupied, so I borrowed it for a while.

I think it is unbelievably rude - not the rant .. but the chair hogging.

I've seen an officer on deck having the crew remove EVERYTHING from chairs that did not have someone's bottom in them. The rule is NO SAVING CHAIRS.

Now, I agree that one chair with a pile of stuff on it (not just towels) is seriously different from the "one pair of shoes under each of 5 chairs" or towel on the chair stunt.

I'm with the others, I'll watch for 5 minutes or so, but if what appears to be an unoccupied chair remains empty, I'll take it. If the person re-appears, let the situation dictate your response. In general, my response is that it appeared to be an empty chair, and saving is not permitted; I suggest that if they have an issue with that they might want to consult the Navigator.

In general it's not a problem, but I'm not trying for a seat by the Mickey pool.

The chairs on deck four are great. It's sooo quiet on deck four compared to the pool areas and deck 10.

Oh, and before I got distracted by that picture I was going to say something...

We found the same thing to be true on our cruise and ended up putting our stuff on one of the chairs that are at the tables where you'd eat, since there was nowhere else. We had just eaten a snack or something, and figured well, we'll just keep our stuff there. Not ideal by any means. Felt badly about it, but there were plenty of tables free in that area if someone needed a place to eat.

I honestly think that what they need are some CUBBIES! Anyone ever been to one of those indoor waterparks? We went to a Coco Key last year and of course they had lounge chairs, but they also had nice big cubbies for people who just needed a place to put their stuff and not a place to sit. That was totally US! Our family was always on the move, no one was relaxing, so we didn't need a lounge chair. But if they hadn't had cubbies, we would've had to take a chair to put our stuff on. It worked out great.
