December 2014 anyone?

We don't have frequent flyer miles so that won't affect me, but I'm curious, if we start the trip on 12/23 instead of 12/24, does the free meal plan only apply to 12/23 or does it carry through for the entire trip since we started on 12/23? Guess I will have to look into that.

It should apply for your whole stay, if it applies to the first night.

Hi Everyone....I created a FB group WDW DIS December 2014 for anyone interested.

It is a closed group, private, under the "secret" headings. As far as I understand this means only group members can see posts from other group members.

There is one for January and it has a lot of activity so I thought it would be a good idea.

I belong to two of the FB closed groups. My regular FB friends can see what I post or "like" on one of them, but seemingly not the other (which is a kids' sports team group). This might sound strange, but I don't like my friends and relatives to know that I am going to WDW "AGAIN"! I am really private about that. I am not sure what we could accomplish in that group that we can't accomplish here. Good luck to you, though!

That's fine...we have one for January and everyone loves it! So I figured I would offer it up here.

I marked it so that no one can see your posts except other members of the group even people on your friends list. If your friends or relatives join the group then they will see it though! You never know you both may meet each other there in surprise!

I know what you mean though...I'm sure I am going to hear all about it when my family finds out that I will not be home for Christmas. We've had a tough year and this is our treat as a family unit....they'll deal with it. I just want to prolong hearing about it! :thumbsup2

I just booked for arrival on December 23 and have it for the whole trip through Jan. 1.

I adjusted mine. I had to give up the Nemo Suite at A of A in order to extend my trip a day but for saving over $500 and getting an extra day of vacation, I will take it. I am going to keep checking to see if Nemo Suite becomes available for the dining deal.

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know as long as you start your trip on 12/23 it would carry over for the whole trip!

That's great! I would keep checking because someone may give up a reservation that they already have. But if you don't like you said...saving money and an extra day...who can beat that!

Maybe I'll join and watch the fun! I just REALLY don't want my circle of FB friends to know what I'm up to! :ssst:

I totally hear you on this! I just booked another trip to the World, and am SO excited, but honestly don't want my friends and family to know. Isn't that awful? But I know I'll hear it from everyone, and just don't care to. :)

Believe me when I say, "I hear ya"!

Are you going there again? Don't you want to go somewhere else? Why do you spend so much money to go there ? ;)

1. There's already a private FB group for DIS board members. It's called Magical Disney Christmas 2014.

2. If it's a closed group, no one else can see what you do on that group. I belong to a couple of infertility closed groups. As long as I like or comment on the post in the group, it doesn't show up in my newsfeed/homepage. If I click on a story and like it outside of the group, that will show up on my homepage/newsfeed.

(I'm going to post this in several December trip related places, here and on FB, so apologies if you end up reading this several times!)

We're going Nov 29-Dec 8 and staying at POR.

Since there's no Free Dining for our dates, we're hoping for a Room Only discount and looking for other ways to save a little.

I found a homeschool group offering a GREAT price on 5 or 8 days Park Hoppers with Water parks and More for $252/286 per person. The only 'catch' is that your school age kids (and some adults with the younger grades) attend one class on Nov. 29th or Dec. 1st. She's also offering a Memory Maker share. This is a private group arranged through the Disney Youth Education Series, and you don't have to be homeschoolers to participate. The organizer is also a member of the Dis.

We're so excited about the Water parks, we may add another day to our trip so we can go to both!

If anyone is interested, PM me for a link to the Facebook page with more details! (If you are kind enough to say I referred you, I get a discount on my tickets!)

Regards,
C.

That's great...off to join now.

There is also an "official" DIS December 2014 thread here. It has a lot more people and more activity.

I think we've all been there. I mentioned our plans to my Mom in passing, and she said some such "again?!" comment. She has no idea that I'm considering inviting her to come with us this time.

Honestly, for us it's a "what else?" kind of decision. I looked into cruises or even staying at a beach resort near LA and just doing a couple days at Disneyland, but we'd be spending at least as much, and we wouldn't really be getting that much more in exchange. I really wanted to consider a cruise, but prices are crrrrazy for the week we're planning. At least with Disney we can stay at SoG, so we'll basically be spending the same amount as we would have during a less crowded time.
Not that I don't like other places, but since it's New Year's if we want sun, we have to go south, and with little kids we need somewhere that's comfortable to us. I can plan a Disney vacation in 5 minutes, if necessary, and know that it will be awesome. Other places require research...
When I mentioned LA to DH, he asked specifically if he'd be able to go snorkeling (his favorite thing about beach vacations). I told him that we'd have to drive somewhere to do it, or book an excursion, and he lost interest.

THIS!!!! :thumbsup2 This is exactly how I feel about going to WDW. We actually did a Disney cruise over Spring Break - 4-day Bahamian cruise on the Magic. Although we enjoyed it, we were honestly kind of bored a lot of the time. DH even commented that he'd rather be at WDW because at least there are rides, and he's never been a big fan of WDW vacations. But we know that when we get there, we WILL be entertained, will have fantastic customer service, it'll be really clean, and we're pretty much guaranteed to have a great time.

That's not to say we haven't had other amazing vacations. We went to Costa Rica for Spring Break last year, and that was incredible. Truly, we'll never forget it. But it was a bear to plan. I could have used a service to put everything together for us, but that would have cost a ton of money on top of what we were already paying. And although the lodging was less expensive, the private drivers we hired to get around were VERY expensive, the airfare was insane, and the activities (ziplining, private rainforest tours, etc.), were crazy expensive. Again, all very worth it, but a lot of work and honestly more $$$ than a WDW vaca.

12/26 - 12/31 and as I typed those numbers I realized that I have probably lost my mind. This will be me and my daughters 3rd trip, but the first in several years for my Disney disliking (hate is not too strong of a word but I don't like to use it) husband and I will probably scar him for life. But with 2 daughters going to separate colleges these dates were the only ones that we could make work. I wish I could go a few days earlier to take advantage of the free dining but my mother would disown me if I missed Christmas with my extended family.

So we will pack our rose colored glasses and just try to soak up the atmosphere while keeping our expecations low and hopefully have a magical trip despite the crowds.

WOW! IF my mother-in-law were a "poster", this would be her exact words!!! (Well, perhaps add a few colorful adjectives!) :scared1:

Oh you can certainly add me to the hush group. Besides my DH, DD, DS and DDBF no one else yet knows we are going. I have a double whammy as I go all the time and I will be gone for Christmas.
