December 2008 Code Watch

Are the AAA rates that ya'll have been getting, are for room only, or packages?

Do they have AAA rates for both, or usually just one??

I booked my Dec. trip as a room only with the AAA discount to hold the room. Sometime around August, Disney Visa normally will offer a better discount for a Dec. package, so then I'll update my ressie to a package using the Disney Visa. At least that's the way it's worked in the past few years.

I just became a Disney Visa card holder. Have lots to learn about the rewards/discounts, etc. When the the codes/discounts are released around August will you have to cancel your ressie and start all over again or will they allow you to update your present ressie?

You can update it...

Okay, I am flipping out trying to plan my trip. We have settled on two rooms at Grand Floridian, 12/1-12/8. We would love a discount. I have AAA and could get a discount now (if I could find a decent agent:rolleyes: ) BUT- if there is a good chance I could get a discount later on for a package and book with DU- that would be the fantastic. Has anybody gotten GF lagoon view the first week of December? Would garden view have a better shot at a discount? Do I book through DU with AAA room only and then just add the package when it comes out ....It will come out ....won't it? :scared:

You can book with AAA now and get the 20% discount then if a better discount comes up later, you can just update your ressie. If you have a Disney visa, they usually offer a Dec. discount sometime around August. If you don't have/want a DV, they normally make the discount offer to the general public a week or so after they make it available through DV. Usually discounts are only good on a standard room - whatever that is at the GF. If you're not planning on staying in the room that much (and looking out the window at the view), the discount may be worth swapping to the standard room.

Like Cinderumberella said, you can update your ressie. I changed my twice after the original ressie last year as different discounts came out. The DV is a great card to have when planning a Disney trip. Of course, you know that you get Disney Dollars - $1 for every $100 charged. Even though it doesn't sound like much, every little bit helps. Plus, you can get 20% off different tours at WDW (highly worth it as they can be expensive - but fun), and 20% off merchandise bought at World of Disney store in DTD. Oh, and a free Meet and Greet Photo at the Character Meeting Place in EPCOT. And, of course, advance notice of package and room discounts. I've loved my card waaaaay too much.

What kind of room discounts are available with the Disney Visa? We booked Poly for 12/6-12/14 at rack rate and w/o a significant discount, it really isn't feasible.

Thanks!

This may be a dumb question, but if you have a Disney visa code, do you have to book the room with the visa card or can you pay another way?:confused3

Nothing yet... too soon... usually codes come out in August for December. (OT but we are at the GF those same dates!)

Ya know, I'm not sure what the exact discount amount is. Last Dec. I booked a package at POR for 7 nights with 5 day PH passes and dining plan for 2 for $1850 with my DV. If I remember correctly, the regular total price of all that would've been $2400-$2500 w/o my DV. If that's correct, then the DV discount was either 25% or 30%.

Thanks for the info. If that remains true, we may be able to pull it off after all!

I got the planning DVD code yesterday via email, but unfortunately it wasn't the 40% one. :( It was 20% off a value, but only 12/7-12/13. So, we're still better off getting AAA and using that discount for the 5th through 14th or 15th. Now just hoping for something for the general public later in the year.

is there a code in the DVD package? if so where. I got mine a week ago and i didnt ssee anything? please let me know.

When you order the DVD, Disney then has a record of your name and email info...they then send out RANDOMLY discount PIN numbers either by regular mail or email. There are several different ones ~ the best being 40% off. You can always call Disney and ask if there is a PIN attached to your name. That's how I found out I qualified for 20% off my room. Since we're staying 8 days it definitely helped!!

Good Luck

If anyone is staying at Pop during December, we have a new fridge/coffeemaker swap that just started and have serveral dates still available. It would save you the $12/night fee that POP charges. If interested please PM me or post to our thread.
