I am kicking around a surprise trip for my wife for our 10th anniversary this year December 14th 2006. I would love to plan it for the week of our actual anniversary date, so does anyone have any tips on what's up and running this time of year at WDW? I am expecting a lot of holiday decor(I hope) but I am not sure how the crowds are or what events and shows are running. Any help from fellow Dis'ers? We love the stage shows in the various parks such as Legend of the Lion King. Are they performing regularly during the pre- holiday weeks?

We have always been to the parks in spring or early June so this would be a change for us. How's the temps usually that time of year?(not good with the heat) I am sure I will make the plans but I need a little push to help make my mind up for the time of the year. Thanks in advance.

It's a great time to go,low crowds,no lines during the week, weekends are busier,Mickey's Christmas party a must do. All parks and resorts are decorated. Candlelight processional is very nice too. It is also value season so resort prices are lower. We go this week every year. Temps are anywhere from 80 - 50 ,usually 70-60 is our experience with low humidity, perfect for us. Have fun

A perfect time of the year to go. EVERYTHING is holiday-themed. The resorts/parks are decorated. The parades are tweeked for Christmas. Definitely do MVMCP and the Candlelight Processional. The Osborne Lights at MGM is a must see too.

We were there Dec.5-16 2004 and practically had the parks to ourselves. The temps the first week were high 70's and the second week high 60's, perfect for us, we dont like the heat. We will be going this year again Nov. 26th-Dec. 7th, hoping for nice weather and low crowds again. We did not enjoy MVMCP though, way too crowded!!

Have fun,

Lory

I adore that week. We're habitual summer travelers too, but FI and went the 14-16 in 2003 and it was incredible. The longest we waited was 10 minutes for Dinosaur, the weather is wonderful (be sure to layer), and the holiday decorations are beautiful. FI doesn't like crowds or heat either so we planned to go the second week of December again. I would definately recommend it to you.

THANKS GUYS! That is exactly what I was hoping to hear. Sounds like a perfect time for a trip back to The World. Keep the suggestions coming. It can only make for more excitement leading up to the trip.(too bad it's so far away).

I got back on Dec 5 from my last trip. I was there in '04 for Thanksgiving and in '03 in the middle of Dec (12-17 if I remember correctly). The weather can be on the chilly side at times but not so chilly as to not go to the parks!!
I love going at this time of year. I am just in the planning stage for my Dec '06 trip myself. Probably going from the 7th to the 13th. Are the parks empty? No, but they aren't as crowded as they are in the summer months. I was there in late June and again in early Aug this past year and it was chaotic...heat/humidity/crowds. Not my favorite time to go.
So...you should have decent weather, decent crowd levels. The holiday theming is the best around. Everything, and everywhere, is in it's holiday finery. Be sure to get a Candlelight Processional dinner package. It can get pricey but it's worth it. I like to eat at LeCellier for that package. The dinner is wonderful and then the CP show is so beautiful. A great start to the holidays. Have fun planning!!!

I am considering going in Dec 06. I have always gone in May but would like to see all the xmas decorations. How far in advance can you get the MVMCP tickets and CP dinner packages and roughly what are the prices?

We got our tickets for MVMCP either in April or May (the first day they went on sale, I think April) in 2004 when we went. Prices then were $42.00 for 10+ and $32.00 for 3-9 I believe. It wasn't worth it to us, we went on a thursday night and it was packed. The only time it was worth it was during the parades, you could ride with little or no wait, but after the parades it was crazy, we wont be doing it again next December!
Cant help with the dining packages, dont do them or even know what they are!
Have fun whatever you decide to do, we will be there next NOV-DEC--Cant Wait :bounce:

We just came back from that exact week. This was our 15th trip and probably my favorite.

We did do MVMCP and had no wait at all for any ride before, and after the parade. We went Tues. the 13th and it was worth every penny. The parade and fireworks were awesome.

Everything is just so beautiful that time of year. We did Osborne lights, CP. Epcot tree lighting, toured all the resorts and went over to Universal for Grinchmas which was another highlight.

Everything was operational including TL. The weather was warm during the day, shorts and t-shirts and cool in the evening, long sleeves and pants with the occasional sweatshirt.

Go, you won't regret it. :cool1: :cool1:

We went from the 4th-14th a few years back and it was wonderful. From what we were told, the crowds thin out immediately following Thanksgiving weekend and pick up again the weekend before Christmas. We had great weather, great (lack of) crowds, and all the decorations were up. Somewhat surreal when you're from New England and are in 80 degree weather checking out Christmas decorations princess:
