Dec. 7, 2008 4 nite Mousefest Cruise - who's all going?

Morning gang! Yesterday I found found out from the podiatrist I have a bone spur in my 4th toe......the one next to the baby toe and it's on my driving foot. If I want to have it permantly fixed I'll have to have surgery :scared1: I have some time to think about it but why couldn't my foot act up later or have done this earlier in the year:confused3 The dr. said I could live with it and gave me a sheath spongy thing to put around my toe to reduce the friction. I told him I've been dealing with this since I was a teenager and that I've been in serious pain for over a week now. Bummer............recovery would take up to 3 weeks, 2 if I do everything right. All I can do now is stay off it and not over due it and soak my foot to reduce the swelling and pain. I don't know what decision to make about the surgery either have it before the cruise or after...............
Kim:guilty:
PS I'll be staying at Port Orleans the day before the cruise and taking DCL transfers

Why is it a nasty drive? I figure it will take about 3 hours and I plan on leaving about 7:00 AM. The other option is to do part of the drive on Saturday, it is just my flight leaves at 6:30 AM Saturday and that would not leave me much time in West Palm Beach. Also I do not like to drive in the dark especially in new places

Lisa
I headed out at about 10:30 on a Friday morning, from DTD, in mid-Jan. I took the Fl Turnpike to, I think it was Jupiter, then got on 95. I hate driving fast in places I'm not familier with. Well, the traffic, going through Palm Beach area, was moving at about 80 mph, bumper to bumper!! I'm not really a nervousn nellie but that 15 mins of driving really un-nerved me. Obviously made a lasting impression on me  . I would assume that if you're leaving at 7am, you won't have the same issues I had. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression..didn't mean to.

That is not good, I am sure it is not something you want to be dealing with right now. I will keep my fingers crossed that things work out for you.

Kim, I don't know what I would do. Maybe wait till after the cruise but if you are in alot of pain and the surgery could be done right away it would be better before you leave. :confused3 Sorry I'm no help.

We are flying in on the 6th, 1 month from today!!:yay: We are spending the night at the Inn at Cocoa Beach. I didn't want to be to close to the port because the girls won't know about the cruise till we get to the port on Sunday morning. We are telling them we are going to Disney before we leave home, (which we are just after the cruise) with a stop at Kennedy Space Center first.

We did the Princess breakfast in the castle in Jan. So I thought it would be good to try the other one. Yeah LOVE AKL and Poly. We stayed at both in Jan. but because we aren't going for as long this time I thought being closer to Magic Kingdom would be nice.

Do you know if we can go in the entrance by France in the morning?

Sorry I do not know for sure I think I have seen people get in at the rope before the park has opend at that entrance when I haved stayed at the Beach Club but I do not know for sure. They may have been staff, and this would have only been 15 minutes before the park opened. Maybe check on the resort board, someone there would know for sure.

I hope your foot feels better soon. One of my roommates in college had them in each foot and had to have surgery but she said they felt great afterwards.

My DH's ex step dad moved there 2 years ago and said he's always getting honked at when he does the speed limit!! He said Washington DC traffic (he worked at the Capital for 35 years) was better!

Hey that like we are doing... Flying in the 5th and staying at the Poly. I'm debating what park(s) to do. I'm thinking about going to the Studios on Friday so we can see the lights.

Saturday morning we have ressie for breakfast with the princesses in Norway. Question for everyone... if you have early ressie for breakfast(before park open) How do you get in?

We did this a few years ago when Brennan was still in a stroller. We had an 8:10 ADR and walked from the front gates to Norway. Meanwhile, they had this little golf cart thing picking up people from the front and dropping them off (those without strollers). By the time we got there, we didn't get seated for about 20 minutes. We enjoyed the breakfast but got skipped by one of the characters. We had to wait until she was done in the next section before she came to us and we didn't get out of there until after 10:00!! We should have been much more assertive but we were enjoying ourselves and still managed to get FP's for Soarin.

OK, I know I am posting right in a row but I wanted to answer questions first...

Anyone else making door signs? I've had a few people on the Creative DISign link do some for us and also saved a bunch of images I found on the magnetic door sign thread. I printed them out on magnetic paper and laminated them with contact paper (the front) so we can reuse them on different cruises. I ordered the paper online from decalpaper dot com (didn't want it getting censored). I'm really happy with the paper and it was just over a dollar a page versus the 4 for $15 I got at Staples.

Hmmm.... I'll have to ask to see. I was jsut thinking it would be easier instead of having to walk through the whole park. I guess i can ask the resort.

THANKS!

Also, the DCL transportation that goes from the resorts. Anyone know if the buses go to more than one resort. We're staying at the Poly before. i was jsut wondering if any of you guys will be on that bus. Thought it would be fun to say hi. :)

How do you laminate them and what is contact paper, I am not terribly creative so I am not sure what I should be doing?

I'm thinking after the cruise is better than before. And if I don't get some relief before the cruise you all will def know who I am, the hobbling one. Just call me "the hobbit" or "hop-along-cassidy" :) LOL

Thank you Lisa

I'm so nervous about having the surgery and being laid up for up to 4 weeks for what seems to be a small thing in my eyes. Eventhough the pain from having corn on the side of my 4th toe hurts like heck. But this is the long term solution and will be better to have it done. I think 2weeks recovery will be good and I could return to work after that with the medical shoe/boot thingy on.

How do you laminate them and what is contact paper, I am not terribly creative so I am not sure what I should be doing?

Lisa
Contact paper is the plastic stuff that is sticky on one side....used to be used to cover up your shelves and drawers. You can get the clear contact paper and then put you printed image on the contact paper, seal it up, cut it to size and then put a magnet on the back of it. It's really easy. Once you see what the contact paper is, you'll see what we mean.
I don't cover mine with contact paper, although maybe I should.

I buy it at Walmart for about $5.50 a roll. It's a clear sticky sheet that you cut to size. You peal off the back and stick it on whatever it is you want to laminate. I do some of the boy's art work they bring home for the holidays so that I can reuse it each year. For those I laminate both sides. For the door magnets, I used magnetic paper to print the images on and just laminated the front. I realized straight away when I tried to rub off a bit of lint and rubbed the image off a little that I better protect them. I didn't put dates on most and plan to reuse them. I didn't want anything spraying/dripping on them by accident on the door and having the ink run.

Has anyone gotten their DCL luggage tags yet?

No--my AAA is so bad that I think I'll have to call and ask her daily in a week or two. She never even mailed us the DCL itinerary she got with our reservation#. I had to go in and nicely "tell" her how to do certain things and about on board credit. The sad thing is, she's been there a while and I can imagine the service new cruisers get. She kept insisting to me that you can't even tell what rooms are port and starboard by their numbers. I had to show her the deck plans and show her how the #'s are arranged by sides. We only used AAA at the time because they had the better OBC but I don't think we'll ever use them again. This is our 2nd time using them and the 1st agent was just as bad. I know some people have a great AAA experience, I just haven't been so lucky.

I like the idea about using this for kids art projects, mine love to display theirs so I will try this for sure. I guess I will be off to Walmart to find some.

1 month to go.:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I still do not have a cabin assignment hopefully soon, and then I will send out the final Fish Extender list.

Lisa

One month from right now, I'll be looking for our driver, at OKW, and hopping in the car to head to port!!!

One month!!!:cool1: :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2:
I can't believe it! I'm getting soooo excited. I better get working on our cabin door decorations! I've had the fish extender gifts packaged up and ready to go for a while now but haven't had much time to work on any other cruise stuff for a couple weeks.

I'm going to print my check-in docs on-line right now.

BTW, if there are any other FL residents cruising with us...DCL just posted a FL resident rate for this cruise. You just have to call your travel agent to get the price adjusted.
