Debt Dumpers 2020

Sometimes, there are purchases for joy. If your craft earning don't play into your budget, you can buy them without guilt! It DOESN'T MATTER if you're having a party or not. I bought some pressed pennies on Ebay last week for $16 for the joy of the memories. I kinda chewed myself up before I bought it, but now I'm so excited to see the package tracking closer!

Is $164 too much? That's something you'll have to decide. But if you don't incur new debt and it doesn't impact your budget, I kinda hope you allow yourself some fun. You'll love them every time you unpack them. :flower1:

Retail therapy is a good way to go into debt. You shouldn’t feel guilty buying something. But you also shouldn’t have to buy something to cheer yourself up.

Still plugging along here. It seems that whenever I think we will make progress something comes up but at least the unexpected events are cash and not card. I really want to buy the Disney Halloween dishes from Pottery Barn Kids. Looking at $164 for what I want. I have that much I have earned from some crafts I have made but I feel guilty and feel like I should put the money towards debt. Thoughts?

You want to spend almost $200 on plastic plates you will use maybe once a year? I mean, you do you and all that, but that seems like a really questionable purchase if you are struggling with debt.

@crazycatstacy will you regret it if you don't purchase it? If the answer is yes and you have the "extra" money to do so, I say buy them. I don't think it's foolish if it's something that will make you happy year after year. Ive spent a decent amount of money on Christmas decorations when I find something that I just have to have even though I know ill only be pulling it out once a year.

Whatever you decide I'm sure it'll be the right choice for you and that's all that matters.

If you love them, and you decide to purchase, I would not only use them once a year. Pull them out and use them on the weekends for your family, when your spirits need a little boost, etc. Enjoy them--no rules attached as to "when" you can see them and eat your meals from them, I say!

speaking of christmas...............is anyone else feeling like they want to try and get their shopping done sooner vs. later this year? it seems like everything i order off any site is taking so much longer to arrive no matter what shipper they use so i'm feeling like i might start looking at stuff i know won't need to be returned and may start my shopping in september so it will hopefully arrive before thanksgiving:o

I work with UPS drivers and it is taking longer. Please order early, if doing so. UPS' volume is currently at Christmas levels. There are drivers in our area that are having to "roll" packages to the next day. This is becoming more common. Just keep that in mind, ya'll!

These might go on sale in November. Holiday stuff tends to hit clearance shelves pretty quickly.

Sure they might, but there’s no guarantee they’ll have what she wants. I’ve waited for after the holiday numerous times for things I’ve wanted, to not be able to find it anywhere. Sometimes its better to buy something now vs. waiting to see if it goes on sale. It just depends on how badly a person wants something.

When I'm feeling guilty at the thought of spending on something, I put it in my "cart" and leave it there at least a week. Usually by then, I've forgotten all about it unless it's something I've been wanting very much for a while. This is how I know a purchase is really important to me. If I remember it a month later after forgetting about it, that proves to me I didn't really care about it very much.
I'm going through all of this over buying a pair of Asics sneakers while Asics is offering a good discount to health care workers. Back in July, the discount was 60%. Now it's down to 40% I think. My current sneakers are 11 months old but they look much newer and still feel good on my feet. Still, I know I'll need a new pair soon but just keep delaying my spending as long as I can.

No one should have to justify to a group of strangers on the internet why they're spending money on something. Just keep in mind that the more we (as a group, in general) spend on other things, the less that is applied to debt and it will take longer to pay down the debt. If you can justify that to yourself, then buy whatever you like. If you want to pay down with "gazelle intensity", as Dave Ramsey would say, well then you know that looking at a splurge purchase is just another hurdle in your path that will slow you down.

I set a price watch with Camelizer. When it hits my price target, I think, about it buying it. That usually saves me money.

I recently bought a new camera. While trying to decide what I wanted to buy, the camera body of the camera I was looking at dropped $500. I pulled the trigger, and I used the camera on Glacier National Park trip. Turned out good. But now I have the credit card bill for it coming next month. That part doesn't feel good.

I know this is not the point of your post, but I’m a huge huge proponent of recycling your running/gym/whateveryoucallthem shoes often. 11 months seems like a lot to me, so I say go for it! I judge mine based off of mileage (I use my running shoes solely for running) and the tread of the shoe. My shoes always look good from the top, but if the tread is gone, I ditch them ASAP. Take care of your feet!!!! Especially if you’re running or you walk all day at work. So important for your knees, posture, ankles etc.

I took the plunge and bought the dishes. I love holiday dishes and I love holiday decorating. Someone had asked me to make something for them and then several others wanted the same thing the so the money I bought them with was completely unexpected and not included in our regular budget. Could I have used the money to pay towards debt- you bet. But we have also made progress on our debt by being focused and I do not feel this took away from that at all.

well i took the step and officially started christmas shopping today :crazy2: just this year's muppet ornament for ds but it's a start (and the hallmark store is really the only store at the mall i ever HAVE to go to at christmas so since i could order it off amazon for the same price/free shipping it will keep me home and safe).

Does it count if I've already started shopping for myself?? 🤣🤣 I only sort of kid...I had a hallmark ornament wishlist and I received most of them during ornament premiere in July. But I have actually started already too. I have partial gifts for my friends kids. Got a really good deal on something at hallmark and a really good Lego set deal at Costco.

I'm totally one of those people who will shop all year long though if I find something that will make a good gift or is a really good deal.

I do the same thing. I very rarely buy things for myself and will delay purchases for (quite frankly) absurd amounts of time to see if it's something I really want. I waited more than 6 months to buy a Disney spirit jersey to see if it was something I really wanted. I kept going back and looking at them online over and over again and finally bought one. I now have three because I really do love wearing them. I just made a big splurge and bought myself a pair of Rothy's too. I would normally NEVER spend this much on shoes, let alone black flats, but I kept going back to them over and over. I bought a $28 pair of knock-offs last October (they're seriously identical and people ask me all the time if they're Rothy's), but unfortunately they were shut down for blatantly copying the design, I'm sure. I wear the same pair of shoes every single day to work and the sole finally cracked in half last week, so I ordered myself the Rothy's over the weekend.

I want a pair of Rothy's!!! They have such cute styles. I will be anxious to hear how the comfort/fit is. I did buy a pair of black Tieks recently. They are normally $175 but First Responders were able to get $100 coupon so I got them for $75. They are supposed to be really comfortable too

I'm not even a star wars fan but I bought the child from shop Disney after seeing the add for a few days. He sits on my desk and he makes me smile. The 25 bucks wasn't an issue but given all this he's been totally worth it.

Mom and I slpit the cost of a treadmill that's supposed to be delivered and assembled today. Cancelles the gym the day they reopened, no way I'd go right now. And I'm so happy I never have to deal with the gym again. Still need to get/work out the bands or something we need to supplement the gym but I'm waiting for my reward money from dick's to do that.

I've heard good things about tieks! One of my coworkers has Rothy's and really likes them. She washes them a lot and they've held up and look great.

Yup, I bought a Child spirit jersey lol. I have that one, the imagination pink one, and an Ink and Paint one. I fell in love with the Ink and Paint stuff on our February Disney trip and didn't buy one there, but I caved back in March and got it.

I wish I hadn't seen your post about these dishes because I went to the Pottery Barn Kids website to see them and now I want them too :-)
