The Mother of the Year Award Committee should be calling any day now.
Participants:
Me: DW, Mommy, 38, Disney Addicted since childhood.
DH DH, Daddy, 38, Disney Impaired, but tolerates us.
DS DS, 6, is becoming a little addict just like his mom.
Day 1: Departure, and arrival in Orlando
We have an 8:15pm flight out of Logan Airport in Boston, as DH has to work this day (Saturday). We get up, and DS announces that his ear hurts OK, we are getting on a plane in less than 12 hours. Thank goodness for Saturday hours at the pediatrician!!! We get an appointment right away, and are in the office by 10am. The Nurse Practitioner sees us pretty quickly, and in her exact words, Wow, Mr. Ian, that is one DISGUSTING looking ear GREAT. So we get a prescription for some antibiotics, and some tips to help alleviate the pain that is sure to come. Heres what she suggested, and what we did: Amoxicillian as soon as we get the scrip filled. Sudafed when we get home, to start helping him drain Childrens Motrin about an hour before we get on the plane. Benadryl about an hour before we get on the plane, to help with the congestion, and to make him a bit drowsy. The pharmacists was great too, and gave us some more tips. We get home and start medicating. DH gets home, and after a quick shower, he throws the last of his stuff in the bag, and off we go. We grab a quick late lunch on the road, and head to BILs house, as he will be dropping us off at the Logan Express (suburban bus transportation from the South Shore of Mass to Logan Airport) so that we do not have to park the car for over a week at the airport. He will also be dropping our car of for us the day before we get home, so the car will be waiting when we get back.
All goes well, and we arrive at the shuttle terminal at the same time as the bus, I go and buy our tickets, and woo hoo, find out that DS is free. (Kids under 12 are free). We save $4 on each adult if we buy the roundtrip ticket now, so we do. We are on our way to the airport, and are actually halfway through the tunnel that goes under Boston Harbor, when it hits me!!!! The Amoxicillian is IN THE CAR!!!! I forgot it. The Mother of the Year people will indeed be calling me, Im certain. Well, we are running pretty early, and I contemplate staying on the bus, and going back to get it. But, if anything gets delayed, we are on the last flight out on Song, and I dont want to risk it. Once we get to the airport, I call BIL to ask him to go out to the car, and get the meds and dump them, so we dont have a science experiment growing when we get back.
We do self-checkin which allowed us to bypass a Delta checkin line of about 250 people heading to Punta Cana. We were able to check our bags here to. Took all of about 6 minutes. (I guess we really could have gone back for the meds). We breezed through Security as well, and the TSA folks were really nice to DS.
Our flight was only about ¾ full, and boarded quickly, and we left about 5 minutes early. I had visions of a nightmare flight since DS had an ear infection, and only one dose of antibiotic in him. He slept for about 45 minutes, and did NOT like having the Earplanes in his ear, so we took them out, and he was fine without them. We arrived at MCO about 20 minutes early and all our bags made it, and were among the first off the plane. I had Pricelined an MCO area hotel for our first night, so we called them on the courtesy phone, and they were there within 5 minutes. We were checked in, and in bed with lights out by midnight. One discovery, DS talks in his sleep. A LOT! Pretty funny stuff.
Tomorrow:
The quest for Amoxicillian and moving to the Cabins at Fort Wilderness.
