Death at Disneyland

Wow. That is so sad. I can't even imagine things being so bad you'd feel that was your only option, and then to decide to do it there of all places. I sure hope no one was walking by when it happened! Especially any children.

I am sorry for the fact that he felt so distraut that he had to kill himself but uncalled for that he did it there.

Thoughts going out to his family.

I was walking from the Dreams tower at DLH to DCA just before 11am. Heard sirens but didn't think anything of it. That would be an awful event to witness.

Its uncalled for that anyone commits suicide no matter where. Remember that those who commit suicide are not thinking clearly and in their minds, there's no reasoning about it being a family oriented place or whatever. They are not thinking "oh my, what will people say about me killing myself at Disneyland?" They are not selfish, just lost, depressed and confused. I think we shouldn't think about where it happened but think about why someone should do such a tragic thing as killing yourself.

Anyway, I was at the park today and I can tell you that there was no talk about it from other guests. It pretty much remained an isolated incident with no one talking until it was reported on the news. I was told about it before it came out but never said anything to my kids or anyone around me. I did hear the sirens but apparently there were so many things going on in Orange County that you just didn't think about it. Also, if I remember the hotel tower correctly, it occurred away from the majority of the guests. There's a parking lot and its between that tower and Paradise Pier. It sounds like that if the man's coworker did witness it, no one would have known unless they just happened to be walking from the parking lot to that tower.

I agree with you 100%. I was thinking the same thing how very, very sad!
Not a good place to do what he did but like you said when someone is in that state of mind they are so beyond what normal people see as sad that they have no more reason in their minds and never once think oh I wonder what people will say and think and oh maybe I should not do this here....nope all they feel is pain beyond what anyone could imagine and they just act without even thinking.

So sad my heart and prayers go out to his family and loved ones as not only have they lost a part of them but if you think about it the real tragedy about it being at Disneyland is that if it is a place they loved to go and was a happy place for them they may never be able to enjoy going again!

You know something else, thank God that he didn't fall onto somebody else and kill them. I mean if he is in that state of mind, did he think to look down below to make sure the coast was clear? It could have been way more tragic. Thank God he didn't hurt anyone but himself.

I still feel for this man who was sick and needed out of his pain. But in the end, I still say I wish he would have found a different method.

This has happened at the Contemporary in WDW as well. Very sad.

I wish he would have confided in someone to help him choose life over death.

That too of course! I just think my first thought was omg, how awful this could have been if some people had been walking right in the spot he fell on. Thank God it didn't happen.

I just made that walk yesterday with my 3 year old son. We walked from the Paradise Pier back to the DL Hotel and cut through that parking lot. Although this is a horrible thing to happen, I'm glad it didn't happen yesterday...

I was in DCA this morning on the fireboat (SS Rustworthy) with my other son, who is 2, and heard the sirens. He is very tuned into sirens, as he loves firetrucks, and when we heard them, I said to him "uh oh...that sounds like a firetruck or ambulance...I hope nobody got hurt." :scared1:

On our way out (via Downtown Disney), I saw a CBS news van pulling into the DLH. I wondered why...

So sad. :sad1:

Don't mean to put a damper on things... But the CDA is in town. The California Dental Association Scientific Session. The highest suicide rates are of Dentists..
I am not wondering if he was part of the convention. I know we will hear about it when we start again in the morning.
I feel so bad for the man and his colleague that was with him. At DL today not a word was spoken...

How terribly sad for his family. As well it must be traumatic for the guests staying in the hotel and the other resort guests and CMs.

I just read this and I am so sad. We stayed at the DLH this week and as my girls were looking out the balcony both my husband and I cautioned them that it was dangerous and if anyone fell they could be killed. It is just a shame for all. My prayers go out to his family, the co-worker and any guest or cast members who have been directly effected from this.

How very sad, indeed. So many could benefit from counseling but are ashamed. I, too, hope no children saw this happen. To hurt their memories of DL would be such a shame. prayers going out to the family of the person who jumped.

I've never heard this, I wonder why???

Very sad. When I was a kid, we were at a Hojos in Ft. Lauderdale and a man killed himself with a gun in a bathtub there. It probably happens at hotels more than people realize. While DL keeps us all upbeat, perhaps seeing so many happy people pushed this man's depression over the edge.

Just read about it in our paper here in San Diego. I definitely hope no one on the ground saw it happen. Prayers are with his family and friends.

I feel terribly sad for his family, but I feel angry also that this man could be so selfish. Probably not very nice of me, but that is just how I feel. I hope he didn't have kids.

The gentleman who jumped to his death was my dentist. He was from Scotts Valley, a beautiful place to live. He had been overseas to help many people less fortunate with their dental care more than once at his expense. He was always kind, caring, concerned and a good person. Unfortunately he struggled with issues and depression for far longer than any of us knew.
It is unfortuante that he took his life in the place he did. Knowing him personally, I can attest to the fact he NEVER would have knowingly done ANYTHING to hurt ANYONE; especially a child. I would bet my house he made sure no one could see what he did until it was done.
So, now that the deed is done it is time to focus on knowledge. We all need to be aware of those around us and ask the questions we have all gotten away from. A simple, "how's it going" or a more personal, "how are Johnny and Jimmy" will go miles. Take the extra MINUTE to actaully talk to someone and CARE ABOUT WHAT THEY ARE SAYING. Our society is beyond the neighborhoods of yesteryear. We need to somehow find our neighborhood relative to our time. Embrace your neighbors, help some stranger (safely of course) and kiss your kids EVERY DAY.
So knowledge is key. Know your neighbors and Doctors and Dentists and mailmen and grocery clerks and waitresses and teachers and coaches................. and we all will be better for off.
Keep the humanity in the human race.
