Death at Disneyland

I was in World of Disney that evening after having been in the park all day.
One of the CM's that I see quite often down there, asked which hotel I was staying in and had I heard the news.
She told me someone had jumped and killed himself. Well, I have searched and searched for some news. Was it really true, since I live in Northern CA and hadn't heard anything about it. We watched the newschannels the next day, and didn't see anything. I read the LA times and nothing there too.
Was Disney burying this?
How awful and how tragic for all involved. I feel so sorry for who ever came upon this. Whether it is a worker of any kind. Even security officers. IT would be horrible to see this.
I was however glad to finally read about it, and I hadn't just dreamed up what the CM told me.
But you heard nothing about it from anyone else.. Very good of them to keep it from becoming a downer while at the parks.
BTW.. My dentist is GREAT. Even went to Kindergarten with him..:flower3:

God Bless them all the families and especially those that had to witness it.. It is something I don't think I would be able to erase from my mind.

John has been my dentist for about 20 years. He was always a warm, friendly and caring human being and a top-notch dentist. He had a smile for everyone and took extra time to help nervous patients feel more comfortable.
He was a loving husband and father and a prominent member of the Santa Cruz and Scotts Valley communities.

I only learned about his death a few days ago, to my huge shock and disbelief.
I shared this sad news with a co-worker today, who told me of 2 other dentists she was acquainted with, who have also committed suicide. Apparently, there is some speculation about the constant exposure to the mercury in amalgam fillings causing toxicity to the body. The resulting altered brain chemistry seems to lead to severe depression.

What a tragic ending to a man who positively touched the lives of so many people.
He will be sorely missed.

My sincere condolences as well. From what I have read, he sounded like a wonderful man who suffered a great deal towards the end of his life. This is a tragedy for not only for him, but for those who loved him. Mental illness is a true illness, and unfortunately some times it overtakes people in the worst way possible.

I live in California as well, and read a tribute to him in my local newspaper from many of his patients. He was a very well loved dentist who was very caring towards his patients and is missed by many.

Thank you for taking the time to post.
Take care,
Lisa

Thank you very much, Mary Jo and Lisa.
I can't stop thinking about him and his lovely family.

I just want to add one more comment: in his "right mind,"
John would never have ended his life in such a shocking manner.
So Lisa, your comment about the tragedy of mental illness is right
on the mark.

Take care, everyone.

I had the privilege of knowing John for he was my dentist too. He and his wife commissioned me to paint a portrait of their daughter a few years ago. He was a hell of a guy and the best damn dentist on the planet, he really was. It’s an enigma to me that a person so thoughtful, caring and integrated could do this. My father committed suicide in my youth and, in retrospect, I can see that my father’s path toward this end was clearly paved with long history of self-absorbed destructive behavior. His final act was highly predictable, and in truth, a terrible relief to our family. I can see the reason that lead to my father’s choice. But with John, well I just can’t wrap my head around it. From my perspective he was of the best that the human race had to offer. His wonderful energy and warmth permeated his clinic and staff. To know him was to love him. So, I don’t understand why. None of it makes any sense to me. The only thing that is clear is that reason is not a requirement. I believe that if John, in the clutches of that dreadful moment, had any comprehension that his act would inflict any suffering on anybody whatsoever he would have stepped back for the brink. But something alien to John’s nature eclipsed something very good and very important. A suffering so great that it utterly overpowered all other considerations completely. If depression can invade and destroy a person of such quality than whom, if any, of us are safe. And when I think of his wife and children, my grief is infected with an anger that can find no destination or blame. May Lin and his family find, in time…peace.
