I would rather have a delayed opening than what happened to us about six years ago. The system was building a new middle school and due to construction problems, it wasn't ready to open at the beginning of August. Since the teachers had already been hired and the class lists made, they sent the students in teams to two other middle schools, mine and one other.
Talk about a nightmare! We had two schools operating in one building. Every empty classroom was put to use by the other school. I felt bad for those students. They were constantly having to move around to other classrooms. They even had class in the cafeteria outside of lunch time.
Unfortunately, a delayed opening wouldn't have worked for them. The school didn't open till 9 weeks after the rest of the system.
