I'm sure this has been asked before but I can't find the answer. If I don't have hoppers and have been to say MK on a particular day, does that mean I won't be able to use the DDP for TS at any of the other parks that same day?

If you don't have hoppers, you can only enter 1 major theme park per day, so don't make a reservation in a different park or you will be out of luck. It is not in any way related to the dining plan.

That's exactly what it means. You must have admission to a park to eat at a TS (or CS!) there. Since you've used your admission for that day at MK, you cannot go to any other park that day, ADR or not.

But you can go to any of the resorts so if you don't like any of the restaurants in MK consider going to one of the nearby resorts.

If you do not have a hopper pass you can enter only one theme park per day, so you can't have breakfast at MK and dinner at Epcot on the same day. As noted, you do have to have admission to a park to eat at a restaurant in that park.

There are many DDP restaurants that are not inside theme parks - at the various resorts, and at Downtown Disney. Epcot and MK have restaurants in resorts within walking distance. (So does Studios - but it's a longer walking distance). AKL/AKV and Coronado Springs are within a short bus ride (if you don't have a car) of AK park.

We never have hoppers but ALWAYS have the dining plan!

It's pretty easy to plan:
Ex. 5 days- 2 MK days and one each for AK, Epcot, and MGM(HS?)

On MK days, you eat a TS at MK, or at any resorts on the monorail (Contemporary, etc.)

At the other parks, you eat in the park or go to another resort, or Downtown Disney.

Thanks. This is what I thought. It really puts some limits on ADR's when we have to plan on one park per day.

We could never do without hoppers because we end up at an EPCOT restaurant for dinner about 80% of the time and stick around for Illuminations. There are just too many good restaurants at EPCOT. Then our next favorites are at resorts Kona, Ohanna, Spoodles, BOMA.

Yes you are correct.

edited to add: Sorry- for some reason when I clicked on this it had no answers yet, but when I posted I saw that it had already been answered...yesterday!

Thats mainly the only reason why we get them too. All the great places at Epcot. :)

I think the second reason for having hoppers is the last full day of every trip we like to hit every park and do all our favorite rides. It's one hectic day but lots of fun. And again probably end up the day in EPCOT for dinner.

Just a note -- with proper planning, dining without hoppers can be done. We went for a week in March on Deluxe without hoppers, and did just fine. But it did require planning where we were going to be each day and making the necessary ADRs accordingly.

Someone mentioned DTD for the dining plan; I am pretty sure all of those restaurants, i.e. Rainforest Cafe, T-Rex, Paradiso 37, etc. are not on the dining plan. They are all owned by others; not by Disney.

However, you can double up your table service for a character dinner at one park, and then hop over to DTD another night. In other words, use two table service credits for one character breakfast.

You will just have to pay for your meal at DTD. That is what I do, because I love Rainforest, and I cannot wait to try Paradiso 37! I end up doing a character breakfast at the Contemporary at Chef Mickey's and one at dinner too. That gives me two free nights, without losing my credits.

Even though we have annual passes, I would prefer to make an ADR for the park I'm in. It takes so long to leave the park, travel to another park, go through security and get to the restaurant, that we like to just eat in the park we're in. Or if at MK or Epcot, take the monorail to one of the resorts. The other option we do sometimes when we're at Epcot is take the International Gateway over the Beach Club to Cape May or Beaches and Cream.

Even when I have upgraded to hoppers, I found it too much trouble to go to a second park for meals. Travel time really does eat up your day. I make ADRs at either parks or resorts with easy transportation to parks. I make sure that there's a really good spread of which parks have the ADRs associated with them. I then just choose which park to go to based on the ADR for that day. If I have a Magic Kingdom restaurant ADR then that's where we go. If I have an ADR at BC/YC or Boardwalk then I can choose between DHS and Epcot. If I have a Monorail resort ADR then I can choose between MK and Epcot. Anyway, you get the picture. For us, the extra $200 to upgrade to hoppers isn't worth it for a bit more flexibility for the ADRs (though IMO it isn't even more flexibility since as I said, when we had the hoppers we planned this way anyway in order to avoid losing time to transportation).

we are not doing park hoppers and were able to get the ADR's we wanted. Too much $$ and with a 3 year old not sure we'd do much hopping. I made my ADR's based on the park schedules for the days we will be be there. We have an ADR on a date that Spectromagic is scheduled, etc. It took a bit more work, but I think it's going to work out fine.
