I'm thinking of purchasing a DDE card, but I won't get it in time for our vacation in May. Has anyone ever gotten the DDE letter of authorization and was it a pain to use? I don't want to have to keep explaining the letter at every restaurant we go to. Also, where do you get the letter of authorization? We are going to purchase our annual passes in DTD... can I get the letter there too?

You will need to call DDE to purchase it after you have your APs (unless you already have a voucher, then I would call prior to your trip). The DDE office is open regular business hours Monday through Friday, no weekends. After you have purchased the DDE and explain you situation, they will send a temporary card or letter of authorization to the Member Services window outside the main entrance to EPCOT for you.

We ordered our card 3 weeks ago and it came within 2 weeks- even though they warned that it could take a month. It is good thru May 31, 2007.

If the card won't come by the time you leave for your trip, you can have them leave a courtesy letter at Guest Services at Epcot. the letter is accepted at all locations that take the DDE card. We used it for a trip last year (the letter) and had no trouble getting the discount.

I only have one problem... we will be arriving Sunday evening and the DDE office isn't open then so I won't be able to use it for our Sunday night dinner. I do not have my AP's or voucher yet so I can't get the DDE card ordered ahead of time.

you have to have your AP or at least the voucher to order the DDE.

but then when you do order explain that you need it NOW.

they will send you a letter and will give to Guest services at EPCOT (not dde) a temporary card.

oh if you don't receive this in 2 weeks call them back....

I waited around 6 weeks then called them. there was a problem and they promised to get back to me immediately....

well this time I waited 3 weeks - I was leaving in 3 days... Well they say they were sorry but they just found this problem 3 weeks ago (yes and guess who told them). Anyway they faxed me the letter to give to Guest services at EPCOT for them to give me a temporary card.

it does not matter that DDE is not opened - the card will be at guest services.

Our DDE card DID take a month to arrive. About 5 days before we left for WDW I called DDE and a temporary card was waiting for us at Epcot Guest Relations, front gate. We had no problem whatsoever using the temporary card.

The letter was not a problem but some of the restaurants did ask for ID others just looked at the letter.
