DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Norm, prayers for you and your family regarding your Dad. We are never ready for that.

I know the old duck decanters go for a pretty penny, but I don't think the Bourbon in the bottle runs to much. Maybe 40$? I'd just break it open and drink it.

Not a bourbon fan

98% full bottle? Meaning it's open?

Yes. Mom passed away unexpectedly two weeks ago and I had to run north. Been trying to get things sorted in their house as we had to move Dad to an assisted living facility near my brother. We were blessed to get him in some place nice so quickly.

I may just pour the bourbon and the majority of the rest of the liquor cabinet down the drain. Even the rum.

Morning, gents.

Was a nice day yesterday, considering the unseasonably late snowstorm we had a few days ago.
Sunny and 20C/68F.

Of course right now it's -1C/31F and snowing again....

:sad1:

Don Giovanni's in NY, Pizzarium in Rome, Rosie's in NJ if I had to pick 3 tagged to my original assertion.
Whelp. Now I have more on my bucket list...
We've only been to VN twice, both times the service was awful.
I've been only once, I believe. The service was good! The food was... meh. Not worth it, imho.
As for Bagel's, I'll take my Bagel shop over anywhere, but to be fair they've had 35 years or so to impress me, and I only remember the really good ones and the really bad ones. Yesterday's batch were particularly good. Perfectly chewy with a bit of sweetness on the top.
I've had bagels from NYC and many other places...can't say the NYC ones were noticeably better. Maybe I'm just not a bagel connoisseur.

The great bagel debate continues?
I decided to see what Google, the all-knowing seer of seers had to say.
First article had this list:
Absolute Bagels, New York
The Bagel Store, New York
St-Viateur, Montreal
Schragels, Hong Kong
Green Cow City Cafe, Beijing
Max Bagels, Cape Town
You can read more here: Best Bagels in the World (jetsetter.com)

Second article talks the difference between NY and Montreal bagels:
New York v. Montreal: Which has the best bagels? (usatoday.com)

Do like the NYC style pizza crust, but I can't imagine Hudson river water is so great. :lmao:
(Is it the dead bodies with concrete shoes?)
Mom passed away unexpectedly two weeks ago and I had to run north.
Never an easy thing.

Made it to Sunday. My dad is still going. My mom doesn't want to overmedicate him because he will get addicted. I gave him his first doses of morphine and haldol today. He's resting a lot better now.

I have to been NYC once. Saw the 2 things I wanted to see. The 9-11 memorial and the Ghostbusters fire station. No intention or desire to ever go back. When I lived in Denver there was a pizza place and bagel place who imported their water and it was just as good as the pizza and bagels in NYC. I really honestly don’t care I eat about anything from anywhere just stirring the pot around here.

:stir:

I would be willing to try actual NYC cuisine. I've only been to the airport, and that's really as close I want to get.

Morning boys from another beautiful but chilly day in London. Ended up playing tennis with the boy yesterday, and we are going back again today. Smoking up some Pulled pork, a couple of cheeky racks and some chicken thighs, so it looks like a BBQ sampler tray is in my near future.

Can't stand fish and chips, so I have zero input on this one. If you want to talk Pie Mash and Liquor, I'm your man. Pretty much every town in the UK has a phenomenal Curry House. You go to different ones depending on what dish you want to order. Our little town in London (about 25000 people) has about 15 curry houses.

One trip to Via Napoli was not so good service, but the waitress was American. When they had all Italians working there, it was great. We usually go every trip.

Thanks. And prayers for your mom and your family. Sorry, I hadn't heard, but am glad that your dad is in a safe place.

As for the bourbon, I don't think it's worth $ open. But, it still may be good for drinking.

Begone, and damn your eyes, sir.
You are a Cad, a bounder and a scoundrel.
:lmao:
I kid, I kid...however I do live in Rural Montana so I wouldn’t know where to get a good bagel here.
well... you do have a point there.

Not an easy situation to be in.

Now that is an interesting observation!

Long long long day glad it’s over. My grandpa passed away suddenly this afternoon. He was 90 and lived a long life. He treated me like a son as he had 3 daughters and I was the first grandchild and a boy. He will be missed. Now to plan a short notice trip to California.

My condolences. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry JC for your loss mate. All the best to you and yours. May we all reach 90.

Joined the tennis club 2 streets over and sacked off the gym, and saved myself about 700 quid a year, so I'm off for a wander round there later to check it out. It has a little clubhouse with a licensed bar, so that could be a win. You also get a leg up in the draw for Wimbledon tickets.

Well, that sounds like a no-brainer. Good luck on the tickets. Hopefully it's easier than winning the lottery for Masters tickets.

"The check engine light is on in my heart" would be an awesome country song.

:rotfl2: :rotfl::lmao:

This sounds straight out of an SNL skit.

I'm off to a craft fair today. No idea why I agreed to do this. There better be food.

(shudder)

I've gotten to the point where I refuse to go with my wife to Michael's or AC Moor stores.

Smoking up some Pulled pork, a couple of cheeky racks and some chicken thighs, so it looks like a BBQ sampler tray is in my near future.

That's a win for the day.

I know nothing about bagels. Never knew Montreal was supposed to be a bagel hotbed.

My experience with these things is that someone eats a bagel somewhere, say NYC, and really enjoys it. Then someone else does, and also enjoys it. Word of mouth begins to spread. People start coming from all over and enjoying the bagels. They come up with ridiculous theories as to why they're so good (such as Brooklyn water). Eventually word of mouth explodes, resulting in ridiculous overhype and people coming from all over making bagel pilgrimages. Then the backlash starts, as people find out it wasn't worth traveling across the country to eat something that tastes like...a bagel. A decent one, to be sure, but it's still a bagel.

I'm sorry to hear that. Give everyone a hug, and I hope all the memories are fond.

Afternoon chaps, from a sunny London. Almost every English football fan is spitting tacks today over a new proposed European Super League, that would look similar to the MLS. It's gone absolutely ballistic. Interesting times.

I was wondering what you thought of that. And I see the Spurs are making changes.
