*The Dave Ramsey 'Baby Steps' Thread*

Whatever you can do to make things move in a faster direction will help you.

Debt and lifestyle is an issue that many people struggle with. Just know you are not alone, and you CAN make it through this journey. Once you do, you will learn so much and likely never find yourself in this situation again.

Suze Orman this morning on her show said Money is the world's best teacher. Learn how to use money to help you.
I'm not disagreeing with her statement but she is not a financial expert. She's an actress who plays one and fakes it very well.

After watching this, I really can't even stand the sight of her or hearing her voice. 🤮

The goal is to pay off the CCs and keep them open, so it doesn't affect my credit. Then to pay off the bank loan. I just hate DW was hit, the woman took off and we had to take out a loan to fix the car. But it is what it is, and we can't change the past. Can only change going forward. I graduated college in 2003, so I've been paying about 20 years on my student loans. But the last 5 years I haven't paid anything since we didn't have to repay during Covid. I just resumed making those payments in August. The first goal, though, as I stated, is to find that part time job for 10-12 hours per week on Monday, Thursday and Friday nights. That will help tremendously as that will bring in probably $200 extra per week that I can throw entirely at debt.
Why wouldn't your car insurance cover the costs?

Thank you for this info. As I've said a couple of times, the only time I'll be eating out is for work meetings. So that'll help.

And yes, there's a long way to go. I know the only way to have additional income is to find a second job, and I'm trying. Got turned down at Whataburger, lol, because the guy said I was too old. I'm 50. I guess they just want 20 somethings or teenagers, who knows. But I even tried there. And I've decided to stop using the CCs unless absolutely necessary like this past weekend when we had to buy groceries. It was either put them on CC or not eat. And I'm a fat kid, I have to eat, lol.

I will see if there's anywhere that offers the DR course, however, we're not switching churches. We absolutely love our church and are happy to go for the first time in probably 15+ years. We don't like missing. We're involved in choir, prayer group, bible study and church. It takes up Tuesday, Wednesday and Sunday, and we absolutely love it. But it also leaves me 3 other days (Monday, Thursday and Friday) to find a part time job for 10-12 hours per week, so that's a really good thing. I will see if we can do the DR thing on Youtube. Maybe it's a free class on there or something.
Do you have an Amazon warehouse near you? That was ds25's first job at 19 and he said he couldn't believe they were paying him that much to do such easy work. He also said there were a lot of people my age too so it's not older folks would feel so out of place.
All you need is a pulse, HS diploma and clean drug test. :thumbsup2 I think even back then (pre-covid they were paying $15-16/hour. Probably much more now.

Also a lot of places will be hiring seasonal workers. UPS, Best Buy, etc.
Good luck.

We have an extended family member who is an accountant who declared bankruptcy. I worked with a radiologist whose husband was an oncologist. He had some kind of lesion on his arm and he knew it was melanoma from the looks of it. She kept pleading to him to get it checked but he would never miss work. He died of melanoma at around age 62.
People do their job and keep personal life in a separate place in their brain.

I understand that but what I was thinking of is jobs that contractually hold their employees to a certain criteria as a condition of employment. I have a family member who worked for a financial institution and it was hard written into the employee handbook that the employer could do periodic reviews of the credit standing of staff in certain positions to ensure they met the institution's 'criteria' (i'm guessing more like whatever arbitrary number their insurance required bonded staff maintain). we live in an 'at-will' state so it's not illegal to say 'you want the job/you follow our rules'.
