DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Some images from a recent-ish road trip down to New Orleans;
Thanks for the pictures.
I was fortunate to visit NOLA about 20 years ago, but only for a day. I thought it was nice but only saw part of the French Quarter and the aquarium. I would like to go back for a longer stay.

Sounds a lot like my grandfather. He served in WWII, went behind enemy lines during D-Day. Never really talked about it. He did mention that he still had shrapnel in his hand.
Wow, that’s incredible.
I saw a documentary on D-Day on Nov. 11th. It looked brutal. I just can’t imagine going through it.

We had one case in our building. It's a might bit disconcerting to see people in hazmat suits cleaning while you're at work.
Especially if you were to hear one of them yell out, "We have a 2319!!!"
And then you notice that all the rest of those folks in hazmat suits were running toward you carrying scrub brushes, electric razors and a mobile shower curtain.

We generally give it away to friends.
Well then...
I'll just have to make sure I warn you in advance if I ever get the chance to head up in that direction.

Lots going on but not a whole lot good or worth getting into details.
That don't sound too exemplary...

Firstly, enjoy having family around you.
And as for whatever those not so good things might be, may they end up being as transitory as a popsicle sitting on a car hood in high summer.

Thanks for that! NOLA has been on my bucket list for a long time. Who knows if/when I'll ever get there.
Nice photos! I suspect you're a bigger NO fan than I am. The pictures make it look awfully inviting, though.
Thanks for the pictures.

It's an interesting town to be sure, and as Mark pointed out, it’s got its scruffy edges that have to be contended with. I also think it's one of those spots that kind'a needs several days of exploration to be seen in its best light and be able to come away with a good sense of the place.

We actually stayed at a place on St Charles Ave, a bit away from the Quarter, and used the street cars to get around…

We spent a good bit of one morning roaming around The Vieux Carr (as the pics I posted earlier will attest), but pretty much avoided Bourbon Street (just wasn’t the reason for the expedition). You still had to kind’a look past some of the -shall we say “more intriguing” - entrepreneurs, but then again the explosion of live music to be encountered at every turn was a definite enhancement to the experience.

We also wanted to make a point of spending some time on the river, so I booked us onto the riverboat Natchez one afternoon (as if I could resist the chance to get myself onboard a boat). Here’s a few Images form that bit of the trip…

The obelisk in that last one there marks the site of the Battle of New Orleans (a battle during the War of 1812 that took place after the conflict had actually ended but also made a name for one Andrew Jackson)

Turns out that while were we’re down there, it was during “Navy Week” and the city’s 300th anniversary. As such, the USN kindly dispatched a couple ships to the party and opened them up to the public. As such I also got to spend a little bit of time aboard this lady…

Interestingly, I noticed that being open to the public didn't mean for a moment that they were letting their guard down...

Needless to say, in my book this extra bonus was chalked up as a bit of a win.

That could be a whole other experience if they were girls in them suits. Or out of them.

Huh! I didn't know they had street cars still.

Cool!

I think I need to brush up on that a bit.

Definitely a win. I can't make out the name, if that's what that is in one photo. Which ship is she?

Morning, Gents! As suspected, I had a slow day at work yesterday. The auditors came into the stockroom to audit, which meant I had to sit around and wait until they found a mistake. I would then go and re-count the item(s) in question and change the quantity on the sheet. This took all morning, so I did a lot of goofing off online/reading. The rest of the afternoon was spent putting tickets in numerical order...fun stuff. That's all I have. Have a good day, everyone, and we'll chat later.

'Morning all...
We had some cases of the 'Rona make their way onto the office this week, so out of caution it was decided to send everyone to work from home for a couple weeks. Sorry to hear it for those that are dealing with that mess, but I'll not be complaining about the chance to work from the house for a spell.

Let's hope no one else gets sick. Stay healthy, my friend.

Nice pictures!

We generally give it away to friends. I had hoped to have some people over to hang out on the deck and eat, but the weather didn't cooperate. So we did a "drive-through" BBQ service.

Mmmmm Drive-through BBQ....mmmmmm

That's pretty amazing. God bless those guys.

They are. I wouldn't want to do that, so God Bless them.

Afternoon! Lots going on but not a whole lot good or worth getting into details. DS lands home this Thursday for a long stay as he will finish this semester out at home which his school always planned - go home for Thanksgiving and stay there. He doesn't go back until mid-January except for a 1 day Leed certification test that has to be done in person :confused3 Sorry to hear about you guys dealing with some COVID effects. Darcy - glad you had a nice getaway with the better half. Stay safe

Well, let's hope that those details pass along pretty quickly, if they're bad, and stay for a while, like your DS if they're good. That's nice that your DS will be at home the rest of the semester.

As in... ladies of the evening? Or something else?

Something else...as in the ladies knitting club. Those knitters can be mean.

Ah, Inventory...How I hate thee...

Afternoon fellas from a sunny and bright mother country.

Apparently my particular brand of nonsense has been recognised by the overlords, as I am now another foot up the greasy pole. Just negotiating dough.

Nice pictures my friend. Who doesn't love an intriguing entrepreneur?

That's gotta be a film there, I'm sure Rob's ladies of an intriguing nature would like to make a bit of extra cash on the side, starring in Pkondz Productions "Monster Size, Inc", where a Company gets power sources from screams in pleasuring ladies being visited through an automated door system. It practically writes itself. I'm just not sure if we could get it past Disney legal.
Those knitters can be mean.
Fabulous wrist action though. You know. On the knitting.

Anyways, enough of such tomfoolery.
Have a great day chaps.

Ah, Inventory...How I hate thee...

So do I, however, this year went a LOT smoother, and quicker, than last year. I think it's because my boss was so organized.

Good/bad? Both?

I'd buy a ticket to see that movie. As for Disney legal? My guess would be no, it wouldn't be.

Oh, wonderful wrist action...on the knitting that is.

See ya

Public Notice:

I ate beans for lunch.
I ate tacos for supper.

I suspect the bed tonight will be more like a flying carpet.
I also suspect my wife will not appreciate discovering my whole new world.

If I have a bad back tomorrow, it will be from sleeping on the couch.

Morning all. Another interview scheduled for Friday, this time with a former employer that I did PRN work for a decade ago. They said I had to wear a mask, but didn't mention any hazmat suit cleanings.

Don't got much else to say right now (which will keep me from ticking off any of y'all for the moment, at least). That being the case, how 'bout some more pictures (and stuff like this this is y'all's fault for not stopping me).

Good pictures (again). I read that Mardi Gras parades have already been cancelled, so it was good that you were able to make the trip before the lockdowns.
