DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Thanks to all you folks that have family serving in the medical field. Mom was a surgical nurse for 30+ years. I'm glad someone can do it but it isn't for me.

Just covered the tomato plants and am hoping that I didn't need to. Not the latest frost date on record here but getting close.

WDW top list for today is ....................... Top 5 things you are looking most forward to when you next get to visit DaWorld

TTA People Mover

Dinner at Trails End or Boma

and for all you haters out there...
IASW :rotfl2:

This entire half a$$ area of a carnival theme needs to be bulldozed, wiped from our memories and any photographic history deleted or burned. This area of shame and cheapness, not to mention a complete opposite to Walt's vision and the type of garbage that drove him to want to create a theme park in the first place, needs a complete scrape and rebuild.

I knew I liked you.

Buying a house is supposed to be fun,
:scared1: :faint:
I don't think that word means what you think it means.

In my top 5 things I hate most in life
Buying a house, selling a house, and moving are three of them with buying a vehicle also up in there. Not sure about number 5.

Never asked for one here but then again our house is about 80 meters about the river.
They usually don't ask for one in New Brunswick, but if you are building on a lot that is on the river or near a flood zone, you have to be above a certain height, if you get flooded at 80 meters, I'll need a submarine to get to my house. :lmao: :lmao:

We always said that if the dam ever lets go, we'll have a great view of everything floating by.

Hey guys...nothing new, just been working...

Top 3 attractions that you do not like
OK, a bit late for this one but...

Tower of Terror (sorry gents, drops ain't my thing. it's the only ride I have never done in WDW)
Primeval Hurl (the ride they made in hell)
Mission Space Orange side (spinning ain't my thing either)

Watched Rise of Skywalker yesterday. I was happy with the way the saga ended.
Good to hear.
I was entertained. There are things I thought were awesome. There were things I didn't like. But it entertained me.
Nothing is ever going to be as good as A New Hope and Empire, so I just take these newer films for what they are and let myself be entertained.
Except Solo - that was carp.

Galaxy's Edge

Galaxy's Edge

OK...there are more than 5 things in Galaxy's Edge alone, but it's the top on my list.
Not sure I have one single thing after that.
Rides with family, Disney snacks, being "in the Disney bubble".
Trying a new resort.
Seeing Pandora at night, which is something I missed on my last trip.

Hey, Gents! Almost Friday, we can do this. Well, not much to report on yesterday. I did, however, ask my supervisor about what's going on with the position. He told me that I am still being considered but that they have to do their due diligence with all the other candidates. In other words, he's not good enough to decide by reading other people's resumes that he doesn't want them...he has to interview everyone, even by phone. He said that they should have a decision made by next week, so we'll see. I do know that the HR head wields a lot of power, and since he's new he may bend her way if she insists on hiring someone specific, which she has been known to do in the past. We'll see. I mean, it's not like I want to spend the rest of my life at this company, I just need it to pay the bills.

Ambiance

Ambiance
Looking at the details
Did I say ambiance? Well, ambiance.

Okay fellas, sorry in advance for the venting, but then again, we can share here.

As Norm would say, first world problems, but still aggravating.

So, I go to the company I have my auto insurance with (USAA). Go online and get a quote for homeowners insurance. Can I get the flood insurance online? Nooooooo! That would be too easy. Have to call them. After verifying myself 20 times over, they start asking me the EXACT same questions as on the homeowners I did online. Can't they already use what's been input? Noooo! That would be too easy. They then also ask me for an elevation certificate. I don't even know what that is, much less have one. They also ask if the hot water heater is on the floor or elevated? I don't have a clue! They ask if the AC is on the floor or elevated. This one, I at least had an idea...I remember it being about waist high, so it's elevated. They ask me if the garage has flood vents? Huh? What? ***? (or for DDCC guys, VDF?) Yeah, when I was looking at the house, that's for sure what I was looking for....does the garage have flood vents. Un f*ing believable. I have to give them pictures of the house, but can't use the ones on realtor site. Noooo! That would be too easy!

Buying a house is supposed to be fun, but this flood insurance idiocy has made it anything but. I'm not a violent person, but I think if I could have reached the person on the other end, well...I could possibly have a new house I'd be going to.

To quote Scar...I'm surrounded by idiots.

Okay, vent over......for now.

Vent away, my friend, vent away. That's crazy. They should be able to look online and see what you've already answered there and ask anymore questions that might not be online. I swear companies make things difficult on purpose.

Evening boys from over here. 830 - 430 on conference calls getting the new store in New York into line. Then mowed the grass (the guys are doing a green pickup tomorrow) and cut the boys hair (not with the lawn mower, although that could have been quicker). Now sitting down with a cheeky Magnum lolly. Rumours are swirling that we are going to start re-introducing society from Monday. We are all going out on our front drives for a drink on Friday night to celebrate 75 years of VE day, so that could be cool. Then maybe the postponed social distance Pizza party with next door on Saturday.

Thanks for the reminder, I'll have to raise one up to my grandfathers for their service, and one's sacrifice.

Well, that's less than ideal. As soon as you are let outside, the murder hornets are coming for ya.

Right? I just hope I don't see gorillas riding horses with guns next. Then I know we'd be screwed.

Good news: Neighbor pruned a big tree with the power saw and I got lots of wood for my firepit.

Nice of the neighbor to give you some firewood for the fire pit. How nice of him.

Bad news: Governor has directed schools to develop 3 schedules to open in July, August, or Septemberm. He wants to open the schools early if possible in July so he can shut everything down before the election, er um, next wave predicted to hit right before the election.

Why doesn't he just say, "I want to open early to help make up for the loss of education from this school year.' and leave it at that? Some peole.

Worse news: Disneyland has July 1 open date. No word on WDW.

Let's hope WDW opens earlier.

Government: Wear a mask. It protects you.
People: Can we re-open small business, wear masks, and get back to work.
Government: No masks don't protect you.

I've always wanted to ask people who insist on wearing mask this question: If someone farts, does their underwear and pants stop the fart? I understand, their trying to do something.[/QUOTE]

This. I do a lot of trainings with pesticides and there are more people wearing masks and gloves wrong than properly. All it does is give a false sense of security. The masks can decrease spread of virus in water droplets but does nothing to stop the spread of the smaller aerosol droplets that can hang in the air for more than 30 minutes. Everyone is going to be exposed at some point.

Good morning! We're almost to the weekend, I think. Kind of losing track.

WDW top list for today is ....................... Top 5 things you are looking most forward to when you next get to visit DaWorld

Well, I probably won't be back for a couple more years, so...

1. Rise of the Resistance
2. TRON coaster
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster
4. Staying at a Disney resort and just feeling the real world fall away when I check in
5. Dole Whips

I think a lot of us have the same reaction when we look at the Dinoland area. And yet, I was reading a story about the creation of it. The Imagineers came up with a whole backstory for the area--that fossils were discovered in the area and as typically happens in the U.S., a tourist industry quickly sprang up, with lots of cheesy tourist traps ready to take advantage of the people flocking to the area to see the fossils.

A guest was complaining about the look of the area to an Imagineer, and he responded, "Do you have any idea how hard we worked to make it look this bad?" :rotfl2:

That being said, I generally agree. I appreciate the effort they put into the story, but I also don't pay lots of money to go to Disney and see a crappy tourist trap.

I really enjoyed Rogue 1, though.

I think Rogue One may actually be the best of the "new" Star Wars movies. For what it's worth, I was entertained by TFA but realized it was the same story as the original. I liked The Last Jedi except for the endless scenes on the casino planet. And I was somewhat disappointed by Rise of Skywalker. Sure, it had a happy ending, but I don't think the story made a lick of sense.

Sounds like visiting the doctors office when they make you fill out the exact same forms you fill out on every other visit.

Then mowed the grass (the guys are doing a green pickup tomorrow) and cut the boys hair (not with the lawn mower, although that could have been quicker).

:rotfl2:Much more efficient, too.

Rumours are swirling that we are going to start re-introducing society from Monday. We are all going out on our front drives for a drink on Friday night to celebrate 75 years of VE day, so that could be cool. Then maybe the postponed social distance Pizza party with next door on Saturday.

Hope that all works out. I think we're all stir-crazy at this point.

We've moved 3 times mate, and its always been a nightmare.

Can't stand moving. When we bought this house, my wife said, "They're gonna have to carry me out of this place."

He told me that I am still being considered but that they have to do their due diligence with all the other candidates. In other words, he's not good enough to decide by reading other people's resumes that he doesn't want them...he has to interview everyone, even by phone.

Could be the truth. Could also be a stall tactic.

Morning, folks.

First world problems.
Whenever we relieve someone at work, we have to completely sanitize the entire position before starting to work. That means wiping down (with a bleach solution wipe) 3 keyboards, 2 touch-screen monitors, 4 mice, the surfaces the 3 keyboards rest on and miscellaneous buttons light switches and desk tops that we work at. It's not something that takes more than 5 minutes, but it's still a bit of a pain. I come in this morning, relieve my co-worker, sanitize everything, sit down, adjust the monitors (He's more than a foot taller than I am. Former pro-football player), and keyboards, log into my email, log in to my work station... which promptly crashes.

Move to the standby work area and repeat everything I just did.

Hey guys...nothing new, just been working...
But! You're still working!
I did, however, ask my supervisor about what's going on with the position. He told me that I am still being considered but that they have to do their due diligence with all the other candidates. Is there some consequence if they don't interview people? I know at my work, when a position opens, they have to follow a protocol. First the position is opened to members of the union that do that job, across the country. Then it's opened internally. Only then is it opened to the general public.

Afternoon chaps from a sunny and 75 mother country. Rigged up a water slide for the kids, as we finish up work. Had a pretty cool conference call this morning (that's not a phrase you hear often) as we are setting up the experiences for the NY store. Its going to be a fun shop to be in, we are putting in some pretty cutting edge stuff, and another good one for the CV. I'll share some stuff with you guys when I can, if anyone is interested.

I think we have one more in us. And then the retirement move to Charleston.
I think a lot of us have the same reaction when we look at the Dinoland area.
I kinda feel the same way about Storybook Circus.
Primeval Hurl (the ride they made in hell)
I actually quite like Primeval.

Winding down for the weekend here, as tomorrow is a national holiday.
Have a great day Chaps.

Good morning! We're almost to the weekend, I think. Kind of losing track.
Tomorrow will be an actual Friday/last day for me. That doesn't happen very often and won't again until July 3rd.
1. Rise of the Resistance
2. TRON coaster
3. Guardians of the Galaxy Coaster
That's a pretty darn good list.
A guest was complaining about the look of the area to an Imagineer, and he responded, "Do you have any idea how hard we worked to make it look this bad?" :rotfl2:
I've heard that. I think they could maybe spend just a little bit more... and tear it down.

Whenever we relieve someone at work, we have to completely sanitize the entire position before starting to work. That means wiping down (with a bleach solution wipe) ...
If you are making your own 1:10 bleach solution it is only good for approximately 24 hours. Official policy on the research farm is to remake our spray bottles every day.

Morning all,

Weather here is staying on the cool side for the next few days, good time to stay home I guess.

OK, a bit late for this one but...

Tower of Terror (sorry gents, drops ain't my thing. it's the only ride I have never done in WDW)
Primeval Hurl (the ride they made in hell)

Well you got the middle one right. ;)

I once went through an interview where they had 4 of us scheduled. Mine started something like this:

You know we are doing 3 other interviews but we've decided that you are the one getting the job. Let's spend the time talking about how things are going to work and what changes you think need to be made.

Hopefully yours will be similar.

Will this be the one with the million dollar tree spanning multiple floors?

No, it's a commercial product. "PCS 250 Oxidizing Disinfectant Wipes" (Active ingredient: Sodium Hypochlorite 0.025% w/w)
It also says "Not a baby wipe", so there go my plans for my break.
Weather here is staying on the cool side for the next few days, good time to stay home I guess.
Same here. Sun's been up for a couple hours now so it's warmed up to 0C/32F.

I've seen plenty of people with their masks pulled down below their noses. That like defeats the whole purpose.

Could be, but we'll have to wait and see.

I hate to admit, but that made me chuckle because that's something that would happen to me. But that is annoying.

That would be nice, I just wish they'd tell me. I'm pretty confident I have the job, I'm already doing the job and know their systems and how things work, it's just annoying that they're going through all the interviews.

Morning all. Back under 60 degrees here. It's even worse stuck indoors.

Just covered the tomato plants and am hoping that I didn't need to. Not the latest frost date on record here but getting close.

DW said not to plant them yet. We are waiting one more week.

Can't go back on school. This NTI is a waste, but we get to keep all our federal money this way.

::yes::

Everyone is going to be exposed. Most are asymptomatic. Of those who have symptoms, most don't go to the hospital. For the ones who need medical care, most recover. It's not as lethal as projected. That is good news, but not being reported.

I've seen plenty of people with their masks pulled down below their noses. That like defeats the whole purpose.

I survived the horror of moving across the room and back. Surprised the news hasn't picked up on it.
We're not union, so I don't think there is. That said, there may be a protocol in place, but I'm leaning towards there isn't...but there could be.
Thought so.

So... if they already have a qualified individual who actually wants the job... why have interviews at all?
What do you do, and who do you work for?

::yes::

The idea is to slow the amount of infections so the medical systems aren't overwhelmed, not prevent it.
Any hospital can handle a few cases at a time. What they can't do is handle 1,000+ at once.
