DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I can't do KETO. I tried the Adkins diet and lost a bunch of weight, but was sick of eating all that meat and gained it back. I do better on a whole food, fruits and vegetable diet with little to no meat, following the science from the China Study. They frown on pizza and beer though as well.
Now that I'm finally at a real keyboard, I can respond...

Regardless of the diet, if you go back to beer and pizza, it will reverse any good effects long term. :lmao:

Keto and Atkins are not the same. It's not about eating a bunch of meat. I did South Beach which was a take off of Atkins and I couldn't maintain it either. Most diets don't work for me because they want you to stick to fish and chicken for the most part. I don't like fish and there's only so much chicken I can eat before I get sick of it. Keto is different...It's about limiting carbs and having some protein and more oils (good oils like olive, coconut or grass fed butter [Kerrygold is the bomb])

Typical meals for me:
Scrambled eggs & ham with heavy whipping cream and kerrygold butter to raise fat content.
Salad with boiled egg and bacon for protein, maybe some nuts, oil & vinegar (or home made ranch)
Hamburger patty or brat or some other meat (I happen to love meat and would never get tired of it) and brocoli with cheese/whipping cream or green beans with kerrygold butter

Atkins, was all about protein and veggies, but also wanted low fat so you had to go out and buy the most expensive (least fat) ground beef or leanest cuts of steak, etc. Keto has no such specification/limitation. Normal ground beef is good and has better taste.

There are several keto pizza dough options. I happen to love pepperoni, which is high fat content and keto good, but you can do plain cheese or veggie or whatever. The dough replaces the carbs in normal dough with keto "friendly" ingredients.

The thing is, eating more oils helps your body to be more efficient and helps keep you full, so you don't want (or eat) as much. If you don't like meat or get sick of it, there are other protein options for you and since it's not designed just about meat, no big deal.

The percentages are 5% carbs, 30% protein, 65% fat. (this is percentage of calories). Since a tablespoon of coconut oil is 170 calories, if you do the math, you don't have to go nuts on oils the way it would initially sound.

Think of it this way(just an example)...if you do 2000 calories a day, 1300 of those calories would be from fat, whether it be whipping cream, avacados, olive oil, coconut oil, butter, what have you. At 150-170 calories per tablespoon, that's around 7-8 tablespoons, which really isn't that much. The key is giving enough fat for your body to convert to energy and then it starts using the stored fat for energy which makes the stored fat go bye bye.

Another thing...fat makes things taste good, so what you eat tastes amazing.

All these DISdad meet pictures make me sad. I've only had one DISmeet and it wasn't with a dad. I could've had one, but a certain someone who was only minutes away (I won't name names, but he is an Eagle's fan and lives in Delaware and is a natural parks nut) didn't bother to visit me or let me visit him. Can ya blame him, now really?

Actually, it looks like I might have my first DISdad meet in October and then will definitely make up for lost time at DDCC7 in January. :woohoo:

The other saddening part about that though is I won't get to meet CJ. Still  about that.

She's doing great. She works in the HR department at B.Braun medical. She sent me this picture today. Her boy friend of over a year. (Yes, we are hoping lol ) He just finished college and is an engineer. He's a few years younger but a great kid.
She just came back from Oregon, she was Maiden honor at her friends wedding. The friend was her roommate when she did the college program. She goes down to the old work place at least once a year.
They have started looking for a house and they maybe buying our house. I offered them our house for what we paid for it. We have been looking in the Lakeland Florida area.
Looking at less then two years.

Sounds like she is doing well. Hope you can settle in Lakeland. You have to figure out how to get her further south. Otherwise, you'll have to visit the little Zerfs in the cold in PA.

But no fruit. I've read a lot about Keto, and perhaps I made an oversimplification comparing it to Adkins. Still, I feel better when eating fruits and vegetables as opposed to meat. I still do enjoy a good a steak from time to time.

Norm! Thanks for posting all the pics, great to see those all again. Set up for FF draft out on front porch so i can enjoy a cigar. Go the laptop, iPad and iPhone for the digital requirments but still have the old fashioned paper player rankings and groupings just like 25 years ago ;-)

Great to hear she is doing well and good luck with the possible future new family member.

I have booked my finial WDW getaway for 2018 bringing this year to 6 trips (34 days total not too bad being from NJ), Next 2 trips are Oct 27- 29 POP & Dec 8-10 POFQ. So if your going to be there LET ME KNOW:confused3. I'll make it easy while in a park I'll come to you. I don't stay in one spot or even park for a long period of time anyone looking for me will be looking a long time:rotfl2:.

Evening Guys,

Hope everyone had a great Saturday.

We organized a .5k run earlier today as a fundraiser for our KidSport Charity and yes I said .5. Not a big crowd but it was the first attempt at doing it and learned how to improve it. DW and I then headed to visit my parent for the night. Just smoked them all in two games of cards so they went to bed and I'm watching Deadpool.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

Great to see you back here Fed, I do have to say my cell phone has not gone any faster over the years , oh yeah it's the same one I had then:eek::rotfl2::thumbsup2

Still using that Motorola bag phone?

If you end up in Lakeland area, let me know. That's the general area much of my family is in and where I'm looking at as well. (Lakeland, Bartow, Lake Alfred Haines city, Kissimmee)

Welcome. I'm looking forward to the cigar days one day. DW and my girls can't stand them. So, I'll have to find a spot where I'm outdoors away from them, if smoking is still allowed, and then shower and go home.

Just smoked them all in two games of cards so they went to bed and I'm watching Deadpool.
?

Not a lot of folks our age play cards still. DW and I are fairly competitive as a team and enjoy playing when we can. Haven't watched Deadpool yet - either if them.

That's what you think until the Mrs kicks your butt back to PA. :lmao:

I know that's what my wife will do, so I have the scheme them into moving to Florida so we can move there as well.

Our party came off the rails a bit because we met Moana. I know she’s a rare character now and DDs really wanted to meet her. The attendant said 75 minute wait, which I was prepared to swallow. They lied. 75 minutes in we were only half way through. Should have bailed at that point but had invested the time and kept going. 2 hours and 23 minutes (of a 5 hour party) later we finally met her. Anyway, long story short, I know the rare characters are out and some people enjoy that but for me I would never waste the time again.

2 hours and 23 minutes...:scared1::faint:

Yeah, I definitely could see where you could spend your time doing better things.

DisDad Meet - Mark
disdad-mark-jpg.346038

That was a fun day, letting the kids endanger themselves in all that dihydrogen monoxide.

Of course, he didn't let me know he lived in the Atlanta area until several months after I'd been through the Atlanta area. You probably expected me to use my flux capacitor, but it's been in the shop for months. I really should check on that.

Details details. :lmao:

In all seriousness, I was really bummed I found out you were literally minutes away after the fact. I thought it was only a week or two, but regardless, had I realized ahead of time, would've enjoyed meeting you and your clan.

Morning Men!

Beautiful Monday morning up here and DW has returned to work, DS is happy he still has another week before he goes back to school. I told DW is was nice having some company while I was getting ready for work this morning. I don't think she appreciated my humour. ;)

Have a good one all.

We only play with my parents for the most part. You have to watch my mother though, she cheats.

Top O the Mornin Dads! Summer has returned with 90's for the foreseeable future around here. Ready for some fall weather. Have a good week gents!

Livin a bit dangerously there ain't ya give both the main ladies in your life a hard time?

Morning all. Another week on campus and 144 mile daily commute. Ugh. Lots of rumors up this way about the future of my program. I should be ok the next two years of the budget cycle. However, not sure about the following two. No sense in worrying about though, as there isn't anything I can do.

Signs were still there last time I checked. I guess the only side effect in had on your gang was the addition of a 4th child. :lmao:

When I worked UPS 3rd shift, we would play cards waiting for the planes to arrive. It was terrible cheating, but everyone cheated, so it became part of the game to try and steal the signals between partners.

When I was dating my wife before we were married, her uncle (by marriage) was a super card cheater. We were playing rook one time, and he had tried to to palm an extra trump card. Of course, when he went to try and hide it in the stack, I just loudly point and call out the cheating. I ain't got time for that. Maybe that's why DW's family like me. :lmao:

?

I'll keep the summer weather and the heat. Once fall arrives, then winter. I'm not ready for that.

DisDads History 102

No, No it's not.....

And by the way, I won many MANY Page Ownages....I started that one, and at least one former member got his nose all bent out of shape due to too much fun I guess (note I said Former)

I logged in from Iraq on the Thread that Shall Not be named and wondered what the heck happened...:rolleyes1

Things I learnt from Dis Dads Club #1 thread:

1. @dvczerfs really isn't impressed with Discovery card's Customer Service. And got sunburn on his head demolishing a pool and deck.
2. @DisneyFed has a dream to hold a "10 pounder" up at the Castle. I think the least said about that the better.
3. Don dropped the bombshell that Disney was about to swap out dispensers to serve both sweet and unsweetened Ice Tea. And got a ton of golf stuff.

Man, this is more informative than college.

That would be a fish....and I have managed to accomplish it since then.

Yah, over the years I've met up with a few dads here and there.
Some came armed. Lol ( and that's just what you can see lol )
Wow, these old pictures, I was 20 pounds less in these. Lol

Dang that's two cars ago for me....LOL

Great to see you back here Fed, I do have to say my cell phone has not gone any faster over the years , oh yeah it's the same one I had then:eek::rotfl2::thumbsup2

I thought I was bad!!!

Morning boys from a Sunny London. Watching Wolves take on Man City. Now completely free of insoles, heel steps, and just in trainers. My feet haven't been this comfy in months.

Additionally, you have to love it when you're coaching a soccer tournament and all of a sudden your phone starts blowing up because of a "mass shooting".

What a way to end the day

The Lady K "tolerates" them in the 5 or so I have a year, with rolling eyes. The boy is obsessed with them, so much that I let him blow through it. I figure if I don't make a fuss about it, he won't be that bothered when he's older.
I dunno if you saw it Fed, but they gave as good as they got. The goal was a handball, but no neutral begrudged them a draw.
No sense in worrying about though, as there isn't anything I can do.
Thats a very healthy attitude mate, here's hoping
Can ya blame him, now really?
I can't believe someone went through Atlanta and didn't meet up with you buddy :rolleyes1
That would be a fish....and I have managed to accomplish it since then.
Pictures..........or it didn't happen
34 days total not too bad being from NJ
Not too bad at all.

Things I learned from Disdads III:

Norm had a great diet plan which involved going through Taco Bell drive through and "spending the next week on the crapper". That kind of marketing might work in here mate, but you may want to craft the message for the general public. He also had a great hotel room in Gaitlinburg
CJ joined and was taking PQ and 6 teenage girls to WDW :scared1::scared1::scared1:
There was a whole bit about grits, a bit like the conversation we all had about a year ago (nothing changes)
Mark was under the impression that Brits called Quarter Pounders "Royales". Never believe Tarantino.
Randall joined.
Paul Lawson used to do as much English translation as I do. Except his was Northern.

Off to Rome, so see you in about a week fellas. Hope all have a good one.

London out.

Well, it seems the boy friend was kicked to curb on Sunday. Lol
He was told, “when you grow up, give me a call. “ lol
(Kid is tuff as nails like her mother. Lol)
You know young love, it can change at any second. Lol
We are still friends on FB so if you can do me a favor.....
Don’t say anything.
I just had to tell someone. Lol

Sorry about that, I know you thought this may be the guy but who knows, maybe some tough love for the young man is what he needs.
