DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I'm not a stock guru or anything, but every investment site/fund/stock specifically states past performance is no guarantee of future performance. While I agree it has historically done that, it's so overinflated now, it is only a matter of time. I'm also not a doomsday type person, but if you do investigation, there is no way it can maintain its current levels and it's been propped up so long by ghost money, it will fall. I can't predict exactly when, but it's not sustainable. Ever since the bear market (crash in 2008), it's been this way.

Dave Ramsey said it. That's good enough for me. I've followed his investment strategy and it has worked out extremely well. And, that last crash we had in 2008, I think it was 2 years to break even and three more after that the money doubled from what was there in 2008 before the crash? I may have been off on those specifics there, but the ones who took it out at the bottom really lost everything because they missed out on the recovery.

For any other members of the DDC who are also DIS shareholders...I'm going to say something that may get me in trouble if DIS (the company) is monitoring this.

I just got a proxy voting information in the mail and there is something that GREATLY concerns me...
One of the shareholder proposals is to have an annual report disclosing information regarding the company's lobbying policies and activities. They're recommending to vote against this and that disturbs me (A LOT). I know I'm already disturbed or disturbing, but this seems like an effort to conceal information stockholders should be aware of. I realize there could be the expense of producing this, but I see no other reason, except concealment.

If you own DIS stock or know someone who does, I'd respectfully ask you vote FOR this vs. against.

Happy Thursday. Rain has turned to snow here. I'm ready for summer.

Top O the Mornin Dads and Happy Friday Eve!

Sounds like a good plan, if it wasn't snowing.

I have the one share of Disney stock.

I saw the same notice and plan on voting for it as well. Keep in mind that the board almost always recommends voting against the shareholder proposals, which usually involve more reporting of something or other. I'm sure some of their motivation is to avoid being transparent, but some is probably also just avoiding the cost of putting together the various requested data/reports. Disney can be notoriously cheap at times.

Not going to a Super bowl party this year. Just staying home to watch the game. What is everyone else planning to do?

Not planning on watching, but hoping Mark's team kicks their butts.

I normally like the commercials better than the game, so I'll catch the commercial highlights the next day.

TGIF gentlemen, for those who still have their feet to the grindstone, that is. I had one of my employees quit on me this week, so it's been a week of getting job postings up, looking at resumes, talking to HR, etc. I'm ready for a drink tonight. Where are we drinking Dan @londontime?

Not married. Dan is just wrong. Why would anyone want warm beer?
While I have a great affinity for the mother country, I must admit that the warm stuff served in those fine British pubs turned me off beer. But Scotland is where I happily discovered spiced rum, so I guess that's a win.

Rain has turned to snow here. I'm ready for summer.
Amazing and weird weather this year. It's raining and 8C/46 F here in the frozen north. The penguins are playing in the puddles.

I have the one share of Disney stock.
Seems like most of you guys have Disney stock. I don't have any. I read that they used to send out a nice certificate when you bought a share, but they stopped doing that. Any idea if that's the case now?

I'm staying home to watch the game, since it's nearly the only football game I watch all year. It will be a party of one with enough party snack and drink gluttony for two or three. DW and the girls may sit to watch the half time show. But I have to watch and root for the eagles because Mark @Captain_Oblivious told me to :P

Scottish Rum? That doesn't sound right.

-4C here and snowing. Schools are being dismissed at Noon because we are headed for -20 and supposedly a flash freeze.

Going to be watching at home and cheering for the Pats while talking trash with @Captain_Oblivious and anyone else who wants to join in,

Stay home and air fry wings...

Air fry...that doesn't sound right.

Having a bunch of friends over, breaking out the smoker for BBQ brisket and pork. My daughter turns 16 on Monday, so she's invited a bunch of friends over as well. Should be fun. Maybe I'll get to see some of the game, too. :rotfl:

Thanks for the support! I feel like the commercials have been lousy the last few years. Is that just me? In my view, they've never topped the Reebok Office Linebacker.

My parents gave me Disney stock as a gift many moons ago when I graduated from high school. I got a really cool certificate covered in Disney characters. Still have it, too. I had read that they had done away with it but then may have brought it back as a special-order type thing, for those that really wanted to have it. I would need to research that to confirm, though.

But I have to watch and root for the eagles because Mark @Captain_Oblivious told me to :P

::yes:: It's a moral imperative!

Going to be watching at home and cheering for the Pats while talking trash with @Captain_Oblivious and anyone else who wants to join in,

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to comment during the game. We're hosting the party so I'll probably have a lot of distractions! I'm sure I'll find some way to express the appropriate agony or euphoria when I can, though.

Where are we drinking Dan @londontime?
Right. That's it. I'm calling it. Work week over. Everyone out. Last one out of the ESPN Zone on Sunday gets to take Giselle Bunchen home. And let me tell ya, she'll let you do to her what the Eagles are gonna do to the Pats on Sunday. I'll let you fill in your own punchline, depending on your affiliation.

I'm not sure how much I'll be able to comment during the game
If you are anywhere near Facebook on Sunday, there is a Box Penalty for you fella. Enjoy the game, however it turns out. They don't come around often. I've only seen my team once in the SB since I started supporting them. They got hammered, but it was still a legendary night.

What is everyone else planning to do?
Nachos. With plenty of Guac. And Beer. I've got the London Winter 10k on Sunday morning, so I guess I would have shaved off at least a few calories that can be replaced with the suds. And I haven't had a beer since Boxing Day.

So, Sunday afternoon, everyone putting their predictions up?
