DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Sure has been a busy week and I'm 60 messages behind. Driving to/ from campus makes for long 11 hour days. When I get home, I spend about an hour with the family and then head to tennis, followed by shower, 30 more minutes with the family before bed. Plus, I haven't had any help this week, which means I haven't time to post during the day.

Just have to finish a couple of meetings today this morning and then finish a few things, maybe go with the girls to get our nails done. Okay, they get their nails done, I read a book, but three daughters here, it's kinda my life. :)

Never done that here. I did the BBB package for both dds at the castle one year. That was enough estrogen for me. :lmao:

In the office today but the Olympics will be streaming all day. Taking the day off tomorrow for some golf.
.

Been watching them here as well. I only get network tv versions though.

A tweet from La Cava: "Monday it's a "I want to fake my own death, move to Mexico and live on #tacos and #tequila" kinda day.

I keep trying to talk DW into moving south and enjoying the weekends on the beach to have the life of CJ. I think I may be convincing her.

First day of school. DD is in 7th and DS in 9th. This setting an alarm thing is crazy. Would almost be enough to make me want to go back to homeschooling.

That alarm does sound early, doesn't it. I usually wake up around 6:00 AM, alarm or not, even on the weekends.

Can you get those pine-scented air freshners to hang from your mirror?

. ;)

It's getting better. I'm using a steady spray of febreeze daily.

Hey guys. Thanks for not changing the locks. I've not been very active on the Dis lately, but just wanted to share a little video of the newest addition to the family.

He's 7 weeks old and proving to be a fighter. He's going to have to have another surgery sometime in the next couple of weeks to put in a shunt, but he's actually doing surprisingly well right now. Even with the pressure on his brain he's started showing us some positive neurological signs the last few days including being more attentive and able to interact with us. This video was from Saturday morning and this is the first time we've ever got him to smile while interacting with us. We've seen the sleeping baby smiles before but this was a pretty awesome moment.

That's awesome. Continued prayers for your son and your family.

Agree. Back in my day when we rode dinosaurs to school it was always the Wednesday after Labor Day until the third week in June. The kids do get a couple of days off at the end of September for Fall Break which used to coincide with tobacco harvest. Just going to have to learn to adjust to the new lifestyle. DS has less time in KY now than he has already been here. He can't wait to get out and it will go quickly.

My oldest does not like school. She does fine (As and Bs), but sees it as a social opportunity. With that said, she doesn't seem interested in a four year college, but is excited about getting an associate's degree and apprenticeship. She really wants to try welding right now. I joking said she ought to think about underwater welding, as she stays so long in the water with swim. So, she's again thinking about getting her dive certification to go along with that. At first, I wonder if no college degree is a bad thing. But then, maybe following your dream or doing what you like for a career is better than spending 11 hours on day on campus? Who knows. Lots of years still left to decide.

DS went to school yesterday and decided it was time to change his name. I was not impressed. He shares a name with his 9th great-grandfather, whose grandfather immigrated from St. Dunstan's Parish, West Peckham, County of Kent, in June of 1630.

What's new in your world?

Guess he had a hard time at school?

Same old same old. Sitting at my desk, trying to do the work as cheaply as possible. My oldest went to school for her senior year yesterday as well. She kept texting mom *****ing about one thing or another before mom finally shut her down. The usual stuff.

.

That sounds like my Freshman dd. It also sounds like the phone would be lost for the night.

Ugh. Flight has already been delayed twice, and Frontier will not allow us to change until they cancel the flight. Of course that is now 10pm tonight. Oh, they would let us switch but want us to pay to do that. <sigh>

Hey, you're still headed on vacation.

So, when did disney raise the prices on the resort rooms to cringeworthy levels?

Having not paid for a room in years in DVC, I have been spoiled there. However, as ticket prices keep increasing, we find ourselves going to the parks less and less. This Fall Break, we are skipping WDW for DVC Resort at Vero Beach. Disney may be close to that price point where we just can't afford to go.

Just a lousy day today. One of my best friends, co-worker for over 25 years, wife had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease a bit back and is heading to Mexico for a 4 week treatment program this weekend not approved in the U.S. So got that on our minds and then to add to that, a co-worker of 16 years just let us know at a staff meeting that he has been diagnosed with liver cancer. He says they have caught it very early and he is starting aggressive treatments next week. Sorry to be a downer but thoughts and prayers for both of these individuals and their families when you get a minute - thanks.
.

Prayers for your friend and co-worker.

Went out to work on the deck this morning....
Maybe I can make some headway since last time I tried, I realized I was short one 2x6....
Today I noticed I only have about 6 left of the screws I need.

You made it further than me. I would have drank a beer and thought about how nice it would be to have a deck. :lmao:

2nd day of school went reasonably well. DS set them straight on his name. Joined the cross country team. I think he will do well because when I asked him how it went he said terrible...someone beat him at the line.

DD joined the soccer team. Hasn't played since she was in a U-6 league but enjoyed it then.

Hoping that this is the start of better things even if we do have to set an alarm clock again.

Glad to hear things were better and they are finding things they enjoy. As for that alarm, mine has to be at the swimming pool at 5:30 AM for practice, which means up at 5:00 AM and eating in the car. She gets Sundays off from swimming this year, with two hour practices each day.

'Morning all...
Missed a few days 'round here; month-end schedule tends to do that.
Sent the young'en back to school yesterday, so the house is quiet and the fridge seems to have more in it. Still miss him. Well, his momma misses the 4-year-old actually, so for her it's basically the same either way.

I do think about those days. Sometimes I'm ready to kick mine out of the house now.

Took the day off yesterday to play a little golf but back in the office today. It's great working in sport sector; you can totally justify two Olympic streams going in my office plus people in the boardroom watching some others.

?

Life of Darcy.

Nice on both the golf and the professional sector you are in. I am sure folks around the globe are streaming the events at work bringing the global economy to a slowdown :rotfl:

I'm glad everyone has the free Internet to stream in the Olympics and slow down the economy. :lmao:

We need to quit the "life of CJ" posts and start talking about retiring to live the "life of Darcy".

.

Life of Darcy = watching sports at work.
Life of CJ = topless beaches in Miami.

Life of CJ wins hands down, or is that hands on. :goodvibes:goodvibes

It got worse.
Went to the store. I need... oh, probably less than a a couple dozen screws. But it's for composite so they have to be specific screws.
I find them. Smallest lot is several hundred for $45. Nope!
Go to the next store.... they don't carry them. Used to. Don't know why they stopped.
.

You can bring all those screws to my house, pick up some lumber, and build me a deck or bonus room onto my house. :lmao:

Absolutely. Rumour has it they have been stealing U's from perfectly well-spelt words for years.

Balderdash. You guuys hauve beuen adduing u's tuo wourds uuunecessuarily four yeaurs.

What? No filthy Inglish Knnnnnnnnniggits?

Monty Python and the Holy Grail. My favourite mouvie of aull timeu

Top O the Mornin Dads! If you don't notice, got us a new countdown ticker for March - that will give us 3 Disney trips over 9 months (Dec WDW, Mar WDW, June DCL). Disney is getting on my planning nerves as Park hours for March ain't close to being posted (December isn't final yet either) which makes ADR planning a bit of a challenge. So I have DS checking his access to travel agent info for park hours. If I have not mentioned it, DS works part time for a local Disney Travel Agent from the neighborhood.

You and the Mrs can always take up tennis?

As for three trips upcoming trips, along with the previous cruise, maybe we need to add Life of Mike = multiple Disney trips. Topless beaches still wins though.

Morning all. Here at Disney having fun. Crowds seem low, and getting onto rides fairly easy. Weather hasn't been that bad. Now if I can just get my wife and kids out of bed before noon.....

Have a great vacation. We went in September when school was back in session on our honeymoon and absolutely loved the empty parks. We won't get to experience that again for another 6 years while ours are in school.

We're usually pretty good about getting to the parks on the early side, but for our November trip I've already told my wife we will be doing a morning EMH. She's onboard... for now.

We did the full commando trip and both AM and PM EMHs different days at different parks this Spring Break trip. We had fun, be we hadn't gone that hard at the parks in a while. I have to admit that I now enjoy the slower pace, and I like the plan of going to the theme parks without EMH in hopes of lower crowds.

Morning kids. Play nice. It's apparently Friday for some people. Mine starts Saturday morning.

Top O the Mornin Dads! It's Friday, have a 4 day weekend here (moving the kids to school) so all is not too bad except for the kitchen faucet springing a huge leak this morning.............

Enjoy the close to the week, enjoy the weekend and here's to Team U.S.A. at the Olympics

Happy Friday to those looking forward to the weekend. It's supposed to be in the 90's here until Tuesday with high humidity, so that'll put the heat index up into triple digits, and the natives will all be restless. We already have calls flooding in, so it's time to put my game face on and charge through the weekend.

And in all fairness I am an early riser and the wife is not. We are having a great time, so the time we get there has not been an issue.

And the lines are not bad at all. We walked on to soarin yesterday with a 25 min wait standby. The frozen ride was long, but we had a fast pass for that. Heck mission space was 5 minutes. Nemo was one of our other fast passes but the standby was only 15 or 20 minutes.

Arkhsueas was an okay meal, the kids hated it, but they loved 5 princesses in one meal. 1900 park fare is tonight, so lots more princesses.

Also first time food plan user, and way too much food. Wow they give you a ton of food.

Text email call. We are still planning to make it over there Sunday to see ya. :)
Will do, mate. Probably text on Sunday morning. Our kids will be about 5, as they'll be on London time, so I'll leave it a few hours. sounds like you're having a blast.
Akershus lunch is definitely an acquired taste.

Gald all are having a great time and that the girls are getting their Princess quota in

Nice one, centurion.
So…
Which way around would you choose to be crucified?

Underwater welding would certainly be a unique skill.
Could be a well-paying as a freelancer on the occasions when the skill was needed.
Having been raised around welders I will point out that the culture is a mite rough and at times misogynistic. Not that it couldn’t be broken into by a determined individual. She’ll need to be even tougher mentally than physically, but I’d wish her well on the attempt.

I do think about those days. Sometimes I'm ready to kick mine out of the house now.
I’m certain I was tempted as such daily…
Now that he’s actually pretty much gone though, I’ve seem to have revised my memories a tad.

Morning kids. Play nice. It's apparently Friday for some people. Mine starts Saturday morning.
Saturday’s still a work day…
I just don’t get paid for the work the boss expects.

3 hours! 3 hours to Disney Time! No more work for 17 days! :cool1:
Have a blast sir!

17 days, you say?
No way on God’s green Earth would I be allowed that much time off at a crack.

except for the kitchen faucet springing a huge leak this morning.............
Hope you got that under control quickly.
Much damage could have been done otherwise.

It includes weekends....not back until 30th August.
Its one of the perks of working over here, 7 weeks vacation is pretty standard.

Happy Friday. Cut the grass earlier and playing tennis tonight. Life is good.

Also first time food plan user, and way too much food. Wow they give you a ton of food.

We liked Akershus better for breakfast. And, I agree with you on meal plan. We used to do Free Dining, and those DDPs are a lot of food. After we bought DVC, we were able to get a Tables in Wonderland card which is 20% off meals and includes alcohol (20% off).

She has a long way to go before a career decision. Heck, diver certification could open up things as well. She has a female cousin who is a welder, and she is handling it well.

7 weeks is way better than over here. I get 4 weeks from university time (Spring, Fall, Christmas Break), plus Federal Holidays, another 2 weeks vacation days, and 12 sick days. My sick days just pile up, but I have to use the other leave.

For those of you not in the Facebook group, one of our brothers passed away suddenly today. bdoyledimou (Bern Doyle-Dimou) lived in the Toronto area.

RIP Bern, you will be missed.

I plan on toasting our friend this evening if you would like to join with me.

For Bern!
