DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Do they have any ability of steerage at all?
I'm surprised that they'd still have any fuel for much vectoring at all.

I believe there is just enough to make one more small adjustment.
Last I read, there were two objects in contention for exploring before the probe just continues on out of the system. one they're pretty sure they can set course for with a bit of room left for error. The other is considered more interesting than the first, but they'll have to be more precise on the course adjustment, so there's more that could go wrong. Haven't heard which way they want to go yet.

Saw those pics too.
Pictures tonight? I thought we wouldn't see any until tomorrow.

It is supposed to phone home later today and NASA has a press conference at 8:30 with an update and pictures on NASA TV. It will be months downloading it all. I heard max download is 4 K. Talk about dial up speed.

I do enjoy the summers here - I can walk outside free from the fear that the only thing that would keep from from spontaneously combusting in the Florida heat is the 100% humidity in the air.

Empty bottles, plenty of packed snacks, and a unholy combination of coffee, Red Bull, and Mountain Dew take care of bathroom, food and sleep. I'm still trying to figure out if a ground based version of midair refueling involving a semi truck full of gasoline doing 75 mph on the Interstate running a hose into the tank of a car running at the same speed is legal. It probably is in Kentucky.

One of the things I miss is the Fall. Summer can suck both here and up north but at least we are prepared for it. Our house in N. Syracuse didn't have air but a friend's house did. That and a pool, spent a lot of time there.

Kind of miss our annual drive to Florida. My brother and I used to fight over who could sleep in the space by the rear window. Seat belts? We don't need no stinking seat belts!

It appears that planet or not...
At least it was named correctly.

Now that is cool.

They should've just run a cable out to it ahead of time.

:rolleyes1

Still here and safe though I may have lost the research for the year. Much better off than many around eastern KY

Morning All!

20 years ago today I married the woman of my dreams! 20 years later and she still puts up with me.

Hurt my knee last night playing tennis, the one that already had a partial tear in the meniscus. I can hardly even walk this morning and I fear surgery might be the only option this time. I can handle the surgery, it's paying for the surgery that scares me even more. Hopefully, I can get into the dr today, but the last MRI was close to $400 :scared1:  :scared1:

Glad to hear you are safe. I've been watching different FB posts of all the water and flooding, but it's not being covered on any of the news channels. I guess we get a better satellite connection of Pluto than Eastern KY. I didn't even think about your crops though.

Hope it all is ok. Do you have coverage to handle stuff like that?

Glad to hear that you're safe. Is it too late to switch your research to studying how much water plants can take before they wash away? I'm sure some government agency has grant money sitting around that they would love to give you.

Congrats Darcy. Outkicked your coverage on that one.

Rub some dirt on it and get back into the game.

Seriously, hope surgery isn't necessary and they can rehab it. Haven't heard anything on the news about Kentucky floods but there is a NASA press conference I think at 3:00 with new pictures of Pluto.

Stay safe out there guys.

Can't you tell them to just give you the bionic knee?

Oh man, that sucks. Hope it's not serious.

And I too have been in a bubble lately and not following much news.
Sorry to hear about the weather woes.

'Afternoon all...
Seems my overlords got a hold of my morning and most of the afternoon.
the carcass of the day is laying in shreds about me.
So much gnashing of teeth. It wasn't pretty.

But I'm still better off than some.

I only saw a little blurb on the storms this morning.
Good that you're well. Sorry to hear about the damage to the research plots though.
That's pretty tough.

The trick seems to be to find the ones that are not quite in their right mind.
There's no way a sane woman would put up with must of us.
I've no better explanation for why my DW keeps on not throwing me out.

Congratulations and Happy Anniversary sir.

That's not good...
That there exercise stuff can be quite dangerous.
Is there any possibility that it's just a good twist or are you pretty sure it got busted up this time?

Sorry to hear about it either way.
May you heal quickly, and may there be as little added intrusion into the joint as possible.

Sorry to hear about yoe 3rur research. Did you have tornadoes last night?

Yuck. I hope you guys get a break soon.

Weather? Haven't seen the news today.

And I too have been in a bubble lately and not following much news.
Sorry to hear about the weather woes.

Thanks for all the well wishes. Eastern KY had a June that ranked in the top 5 for rain and then more rain in July. What really hurt was Monday night and last night storms rolled through that dumped 3 or more inches of rain in less than a couple of hours. When you get that much rain on saturated mountains the only place for it to go is the creeks and unfortunately many people live along the creeks because it is some of the only flat ground. Creeks rise feet in hours in situations like that and there is little time to respond. Two dead and more than half a dozen missing east of here with over a hundred homes effected. It will be days before some people get power back assuming they have somewhere to get power to. know growers that lost all their crops for the season now.

My research isn't all that important in light of that and I get a paycheck even when it all fails. Prayers appreciated for the folks affected.

Thanks guys. That bionic knee sounds like a great idea. I couldn't get into my dr until tomorrow, but I'll make that suggestion. The swelling and pain has went down, but not completely. I was serving the ball, using a twist/ torque with my legs to generate power, and as I finished the twist, I heard a pop. This AM, I had a cherry tomato size ball of fluid on the outside of my knee cap. I really hope I'm overly concerned and the dr tells me this is just gas.

And, for all that have not visited Eastern KY, while it is beautiful, there was no urban planning. While you drive along the road, you can see a $300K house next door to a trailer up on blocks with no underpinning. Other places, you see mountain, mountain, mountain, flat piece of land so put a house on it, mountain, mountain. A co-worker got stuck because the road to her house was washed out, and she watched a mobile home floating down on the overflow water run into another house. (BTW, she built on higher ground and is safe.)
