DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I do that, I catch latest lunches to pay lunch rate and get dinner food sometimes lol. But still for large family it is a fortune. We do mostly in room foods and counter service foods. I am just curious to hear what others with large families think.
I guess you need to only pick out a few sit-down ADRs for the week. I know how expensive it is. :faint:

oh I forgot to mention my wife is on to how much a DDCC trip costs me. While debating where to eat in July we are going through list of restaurants and she is asking about different ones. She is like we have never been to this place so lets try this. I respond with oh they have good food, this one is over priced etc. She then says I dont even want to know what you spend when you are with our Disdads.I said good then I wont tell ya.

I would recommend doing all the ADR (table service) as lunches and do counter service dinners (or the pizza in your room option to save money.) Lunches are usually less expensive than the dinners.

Other than that, yes - Disney is expensive for a large family.

You will have a car right, you can go off site for a nice dinner and not pay as much.

Been away for a while again. Prayers to those in need, congrats and welcomes to those deserving. Home sick today with a stomach bug. Guys on the roof shoveling the 6 feet of snow off. Hopefully that will help with the water leaks and we can avoid any more significant snow. Supposed to get a little bit some time today, but no snow so far. Hope everyone has a good day today. Vacation week for us, but no travel plans.

ok I have to ask this. Since my wife and I have been going back and forth trying to find a place to eat that we havent eaten at before. Is any place in Disney worth $400 a meal??? I mean there is 8/9 of us going @roughly $45/50 a head that is $400 to $500 with tip just to eat one meal. And Disney is family oriented????? HA If you had large family would you still eat out or would you eat in room more often.

I've never been with a large group, and hope to be able to do that with my dds and grandchildren one day in the future. Like anything else Disney, "worth it" is in the eye of the beholder. I can do a cheaper vacation elsewhere, or make Disney a cheaper vacation by not eating at any of the restaurants, but that is not fun.

Currently, it's all about the budget. I'm not sure any character buffet is really "worth it" anymore, but we still do one every trip.

We did a trip with 17 once. It was certainly an experience. Would probably not do it again without setting some pretty strict parameters on who is doing what and when. We tried to stay together most of the time and that made it really hard. It's a lot of fun to be with friends and family, but can be frustrating. I think we do plan to try again in the next couple of years.

Oy, that many folks and ADRs is a nightmare for sure @DisneyDadC.
To Norm's point, value and worth it are relative to the individual. I think your crew almost has to prioritize a handful of restaurants and then do a cost estimate.

Been away for a while and just went through to get caught up. To those with sick kids, prayers, congrats on the youth sports front, hope all are safe with what Elsa is bringing all of us excerpt CJ,congrats on all those planning trips especially the DDC4. DW has told me we should go but that is a tough time of year work wise and the guys Blackhawks weekend with DS likely only has one more left before he heads out to school. Maybe 2017 me and DW may make it.

DS and I have been in Chicago since Friday and had a great weekend including 2 Blackhawk wins. We are currently at our second added night as we cannot get back home due to the ice storm and not sure tomorrow is going to be any better. I guess there are worse places to be stuck than downtown Chicago - witch oh by the way is nutty cold with -20 windchills this past weekend and single digits.

I think for large families it comes down to: look for a free dining plan offer, or eat counter-service/pizza/bring your own food.

Yeah, I can't get that 180+ 10 to work either. It's not bad calling MS, just don't like waiting on the phone, especially when the online system should work. I've found that calling tchat is really only necessary for character ADRs. I like your list. Olivia's is overlooked by many. I don't know if I would make a special trip over to eat there, but the times we've stayed at OKW, it is always good. And, 10% off with DVC membership, unless you are using 20% with TiW.

We are getting lots of snow here as well. KY is closed.

Don't forget about the CT people... we are New England too.

I've been reading on the DVC boards that its been happening a lot. Not sure if it is just happening to DVCers or to everybody. :confused3

I didn't have to wait too long... maybe 5 minutes.

We haven't eaten at Olivia's before but since we are staying at OKW we figured we'd give it a shot. The menu looks pretty good. Hopefully the food is just as good. LOL

But did they close the liquor stores?:rolleyes1

Tiki Bar toasts made so far...
Jim
Paul
Norm
Tim
Randall (just for the he!! Of it)

Any other requests?

Starting to go down the DisDad list. Think I am at 147 Now.

That seriously sucks. Hang in there Bubba, I hope warm weather soon comes to your parts.

@AirGoofy Props for bringing sexy back. Very pleased that your brought your Pirate persona avatar back. Team Sparrow is better for it. pirate::thumbsup2

Morning guys. Only 2 kids sick now, but I think DW and I are both getting it. Tough loss at volleyball last night.

Said screw it on the ADRS.. We will wing it as we go!! Will just make one ADR for Be our Guest for a lunch and that is it. Biergarten is always walk up so we will get in there. And Trails end always has availability and that is our tried and true place so the hell with everything else. Dont like being tied down to ressies.Plus turkey legs are always a good meal!!!

One of these trips I need to get over and try Trail's End. I've heard so many good things about it....food, value etc..

I find myself falling into a rut of a few restaurants that we like so much that we almost go there each trip. i.e. Biergarten, 'Ohana

Trails end is just your country style place. Chicken mashed potatoes etc. Just plain and simple and good! Biergarten has become our must do place as the kids have taken a liking to it!! makes me proud to say I raised them!!! Ohana they could care less about.Thought about Cape may but not real thrilled with that place. Also thought about Whispering Canyon Kids havent ever been there. And I guess if you go with the All you care to eat for $30 its less then a buffet. but then again when you tack on the $8 for the endless milkshakes it get up there with the buffets. To much to stress over and wonder if they will like **** so that another reason to go with the just wing it attitude.Three of my kids could live off of Dole whips ,Churros and turkey legs. So I think they wont starve lol

Aye! Had to represent team Sparrow.

Please don't encourage him. Sexy and Norm should never be used in the same sentence.

Jealous. Don't be a hater.

Probably a good thing with a big group. We have a few that we regularly return too and still like to try new ones. With only four people, that is easy enough.

I liked Trail's End and glad I tried it, but it does not go into one that we have to return to each trip. It is the best value buffet at WDW (quality & price). We haven't been to all the Disney restaurants, but I think around 75%. We usually return to some of our favorites, but I will try to add at least one new place each trip.
