DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
It is -3 here. Feels like -15. School has been out all week, and some of the Universities even cancelled for the week across the state. I enjoy my time off, but not like this.
You should come live here then Norm. It was 28 yesterday and we were out in sweatshirts driving with windows open. Snow was actually melting!

Afternoon, just checking in, busy busy. Freaking cold again, another extreme cold alert.

Prayers going out to a little 3yr od boy who wandered from his house in TO this morning, he was found but in life threatening conditions

Afternoon gents. Got home last nigh finally but had to walk the last couple of blocks as that was as close as we could get on the bobsled course our neighborhood streets have become. I know many from the north may not get it but a couple inches of ice build up on very hilly roads with some big slopes just don't work. Good side though is home and getting caught up on day job.

Apparently Southwest lied. My next attempt permitted me to book. So airfare is now booked and we are pleased with our times\prices. Hooray!
Congrats

If it's so nice, then why don't you go outside and take naked pictures in the snow. On second thought, .....:crazy2:

Prayers for the child and his family.

In my town, we don't have too many hilly roads. We are on the Ohio River, so I guess we are more of the flat, flood plain into it. :lmao:

The roads are clear enough except the subdivisions, but i can make it out easy enough. We also have some gravel county roads which makes it difficult for school buses to travel.

Laugh all you want but it is freekin cold down here, lows are expected in the 30's tonight. It sucks when the only thing in the closet are shorts. I could walk around in a suit however. CLOSE the DAMN door you northeners.

Glad you got what you wanted.......I love flying Southwest, I just wish they would release their fares a little earlier. As of now, it'll be August before they release fares for DDCC 4.
Agree 100%. Don't they realize that I need to know the flight schedule a minimum of 11 months out! We've had nothing but excellent experiences with them and AirTran. They are the best options flying out of PIT since they offer Non-stop flights. Our other choice is Spirit Air in Latrobe, PA which is about 60 east of Pittsburgh.

well since I am one for not lying. I hereby will hire you to be my tour guide!! there now you will be working :)
I love loopholes, Carl. Good idea.

Just booked our August flights... $230pp x 5 not horrible. I'm happy at anything under $250 these days.

That will work out great until she finds out. But you know what they say.... it is easier to ask for forgiveness!

What what what?

Whew! You had me wondering if I just spent $1100 in a dream

August would be perfect! I'd actually have money then.

Carl to the rescue!
It was mind boggling this a.m. I wen to book, it seemed to let me pick the dates (versus being grayed out) but hen it went to a different page with the message about the flight schedules. I was quite perplexed but persistent!

So as I noted earlier, i was successful in booking. Total price was $1080.80 for 4 of us and included the early bird check-in.
So the DW was criticizing my time selection (even though I picked the same time of the day for departure and return that we always do!)
I go and change out return flight to an even later one b\c it falls on my youngest's Bday. DW felt like our DD was going to be cheated. Whatever. I make the change, no cost difference, life is good.

DW also suggested the "butt crack of dawn" departure flight. She relaxed her stance and said whatever. Then the kids wake up (2 hr school delay) and I tell them mom wanted the earlier one, they agree. So then I changed our departing flight. Upside is that the earlier flight was cheaper. So the total cost ended up $980.80. Best rice we've had in the past 8 years!

Most of us have no idea what that means but congratulations anyway.
I thought that, too but was happy that Darcy wasn't frozen to death.

-10* her in Western PA tomorrow. Everything is closed. This isn't helping my cabin fever at all.

:lmao:

It means that I am on the opposite coast from where I usually can be found. In a place where they haven't been getting the cold and snow that the East coast has been getting.

On Friday I was trying to book our ADRs for our August trip and MDE wouldn't let me go past the 180 day mark. Now I have 2 separate hotel reservations, 8/12-8/14 OKW & 8/16-8/20 BCV. We are staying with DWs cousin for the 2 days in between. I should have been able to book my ADR for 8/12 (180 days)-8/14 (180 days +2). MDE wouldn't let me go past my 180 day mark. I called member services (DVC) and the CM let me book my ADRs for my entire trip. We got everything we wanted at the times we wanted except for BOG which was 20 minutes past our desired time. (we are going to surprise my mom who will be with us for the 2nd half of the trip).

We booked:

Olivia's dinner
Plaza dinner
Kona breakfast
Cape May dinner
Boma dinner
Crystal Palace 8am breakfast
Be Our Guest dinner
Cape May breakfast

Nice! I can start booking at midnight for our August trip. I tried calling yesterday, but was unable to get the CM to book anything. Was told I could not do it until tomorrow. Going to try for:

BOG
Ohana breakfast
Via Napoli
Biergarten - Wanted to try as never done.
California Grill - DW choice

We'll see what else makes sense. Need to plan out where we will be on what days.

Happy Presidents' Day from Key Largo. Sorry New England is getting socked again but Jim, Paul, I will toast one (or two) to you from the Tiki Bar.

Computer is down so won't be able to send pics or post much. Hope everyone is enjoying the day as best they can.

It's really cold up here. I mean REALLY cold. At least the water in the house has been addressed. Roof has been cleared of snow and ice dams just in time for more snow and freezing rain this weekend.:mad: Cut access and installed stairs (I'm handy like that) so we can get into the attic space and see the rafters and sheathing. Will need to redo the roof and replace a lot of the sheathing underneath when the weather gets better (not that handy, will need to hire someone). Have had a dehumidifier running the last few days and it's drying things up really fast. For anyone with leaking I would recommend it. We rented it from Home Depot and it really dries everything and takes the moisture out quickly.

Heres to hoping spring comes some time in the coming weeks. Looks like 40 degree high on Sunday and then back to the deep freeze for next week.

Hope your having fun in the sun CJ. Definitely prefer to be somewhere other than New England right now.

Enjoy the sun and warm temps today Jim. Back to freezing tomorrow.

Enjoyed the burning ball of light in the sky, but it never got above freezing here. Sun's out again today so that's a positive. By tomorrow we will have set another record this year. Most consecutive days under 32 degrees. Yah us!:sad2::sad2: Stay warm. Looks like rain for you this weekend.

Figures. It will probably suck next year. :sad2:

:rotfl2::rotfl2: Well then we'll have to make it unsuck. (yes, I said unsuck)

I don't care what anybody does just don't mess with the Thursday Biergarten. There is no better way to start off a trip then to have a dinner or late lunch with friends and cold beer. You mess with the Thursday Biergarten you mess with me Then there will be problems

I need to get booking. Still working on setting up the August trip.

Pretty excited as long as Southwest keeps to their announced flights. If they do, then I'll be booking airfare tomorrow morning for our October trip.

I also found out that our company's Corp Perks has Disney on the list. Thinking I can reduce the cost a bit for DDCC4. I've pondered just lying to my DW and tell her I am travelling for work.
:rotfl2::rotfl::lmao:

Booked out flights yesterday for the August trip. Had enough points to do it that way and still have enough to book the DDCC4 as well. The $$ price was $115 each way, not bad. Would have been over $900. By using my points, we got 4 round trip tickets with EB check in for $44.:dancer::dancer:

Evening guys, just passing through.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Hey Darcy! Saw your posts on FB. Looks like your having a good time. Safe travels.

Top O the Morning Dads! Under an ice storm warning today as if the crud we have ain't bad enough but supposed to hit 40 tomorrow with rain so we should be back to normal. stay warm and safe to those up north and be safe Norm as it looks like you are getting more snow and cold.

Sorry to hear all you are having to deal with - c'mon spring. Congrats on booking your trips.

As everyone can see, my internet connection is actually working (for now) today. Sorry I missed the last few days again. It's really starting to get irritating that our tech department can't figure it out. Lets see. We changed the wireless router and everything stopped working. I wonder what the problem is? As goes the old saying. If it's not broke...........

Prayers where needed, congrats where deserved and someone please get his global warming thing back. This weather is brutal.

Quick question: Those planning to head to DDCC4, where are you staying? Trying to figure out where to book.

Just booked our August flights... $230pp x 5 not horrible. I'm happy at anything under $250 these days.

Remind me again when you will be traveling in August? I think we already covered this and our times don't cross. Notice that every time I respond to you the font shrinks. Not sure what that means, but it can't be good. That's the same costs I saw yesterday on flights from Manchester, NH. Congrats!

You should come live here then Norm. It was 28 yesterday and we were out in sweatshirts driving with windows open. Snow was actually melting!

28 degrees is considered a heat wave at this point. 3 degrees this morning according to the thermometer. Wind chills in the negatives again.

If it's so nice, then why don't you go outside and take naked pictures in the snow. On second thought, .....:crazy2:

First, no naked pictures please. You can send those directly to Norm.

Highways and larger roads are OK. Side roads, especially in my neighborhood are one car width only and most have 10-15 foot snow banks on either side. There is no way to even see if a car is coming they are so high. Surprised there are not more accidents. We had a 20 car pile up a couple of days ago as they said stay off the road due to white out conditions and the result was a bunch of people zipping down the highway at 80 miles an hour. Kind of hard to stop when you can't see the accident thats 10 feet in front of your car and your traveling at mach 2. If you want to get a laugh, take a look at the MBTA and public transportation in MA. There's a case study on how not to do your job correctly.

Laugh all you want but it is freekin cold down here, lows are expected in the 30's tonight. It sucks when the only thing in the closet are shorts. I could walk around in a suit however. CLOSE the DAMN door you northeners.

:rotfl2::lmao::wave2: OK, I'm laughing. Hope it warms up. At this point, I think we are all pretty fed up with these weather patterns. Average highs are around 40 for this time of year. We were in single digits this morning. :faint: You could always get a pair of those pants that have zippers to remove the legs. :rotfl::rotfl:

We keep saying that we won't take the 6AM flights on arrival day, but the only other option is late afternoon. So we booked the old "crack of dawn" flight again. Will be in Orlando around 9:15AM. Flight back is at 2PM. It was the latest non stop offered. There is usually a 5 or 6PM flight, but I guess they eliminated that route. I'm thinking we may head into Manchester the day before, find a hotel and stay overnight. That way we can get an extra hour or so of sleep.

Saw the ice wave on the news. Stay safe! We are supposed to hit 40 some time on Sunday afternoon and then drop back into the freeze next week. It's gotta break some time. I heard Norm say KY is closed. Hopefully he was stocked up on bourbon before they shut it down.

Morning everyone, still stupid cold out there, kids got a kick out of my beard frosting up this morning. Just received word their skating session this afternoon was cancelled due to the cold, but other then that, things go on, cold or not. They commented on the morning news that Orlando was down to around +1 C this morning, so it feels like there is no escape. :rotfl2:

Good list Jim, we are waiting till Thursday to start our ADRs,

Really enjoyed Cali Grill, but haven't been since the refurb a couple years ago. They have some great sushi as well as steaks. I'm not a fan of Biergarten because I don't like sitting at picnic tables with no table back to lean into.

Yup, still closed. We are supposed to get another storm around 3 today. As for the bourbon, I regretfully gave up alcohol for Lent. Then, we get 10 inches of snow, and I'm trapped in the house with the kids all week. I haven't been feeling all to spiritually happy (pun intentional).
