DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
We have always gone last two weeks in August when the southern kids are back to school so a little less crowded. We do ok in the heat we do parks early and then pool all day then back to parks at night. But we cant do late Aug this yr with daughter leaving for college. I guess my fear is the I want kids to enjoy the trip but not have to wait 3 hrs to get on a ride. This may e our last trip with older daughter for a bit. July = 9/10 on crowd level where as late Aug is 7/8.

Keep to the same strategy and you will be fine. Just manage expectations. One year that we went on July 4th, ToT was recently opened and in the pre Fastpass era. We rode it twice and we were good with that. My daughter was still a little one and we also took my niece. Some park time, some pool time, a couple of nice meals, it was great. Enjoy the time with your daughter, and go for it.

Congrats CJ and a very Happy Birthday to PP. I know I post it a bit, but dang they grow up to darn fast don't they?

These young pups think we are kidding but if you blink, the next thing you know, they are out partying in bars in South Orange, NJ. Legally this time.

Morning. Working from home today. This sinus infection is kicking my butt.

Sorry Duck, good morning and feel better.

'Morning all...
Slowly acclimating to the day here :surfweb:

Watch out for black ice and collapsing bridges on your commutes today.
Well... not down here, but you know, elsewhere where the weather is just a mite more nasty.

For those not FB friends, the Pirate Princess turned 21 today. They were going out last night at midnight but all the bars were closed. She decided her first legal drink tonight is going to be a Long Island Iced Tea. That was her mother's drink of choice and it is somewhat in her honor. I imagine she will have a headache tomorrow.

A happy belated and congrats on the milestone.
To her for reaching it...

To you for surviving it. ;)

Morning. Working from home today. This sinus infection is kicking my butt.

That can't be any fun.
Work less, heal more... then get back out there.

Happy Tuesday! Boss took the day off today so I guess I can sleep some more.:lmao::lmao:

Boy to think if I hadn't gotten the flu shot. For all the years I've given this stomach everything it's wanted and more I don't know why it hates me so. rofl. Probably needs a dole float.

Initial weekend went okay. There will be a lot of back and forth to Sarnia when we are able so thus weekend we will head back. Mostly just sitting around letting Ho and the girls as much time as possible. There is talk of chemo and radiation but he'd have to pass breathing tests first and we don't see that happening. Everything is One step at a time. DW and I had three hours driving to talk and while he'll fight as best as he can, he's tired of the mess. Took him for escargot to a place that charged way more then quality should allow and DW commented that his bucket list was done. Lol. No regrets at least.

Granted if he really valued life he'd maybe stop lighting another smoke up every fifteen minutes or so. Sheesh.

Another area of talks went to salvaging the trip in August. There will be one I think barring he is still going which in case we will stick close to home. No way we will go away if he's still around to visit or care for. The trip will be much smaller in scope since we likely won't have 1) the money, since he has nothing we will be footing all the costs 2) as much time as DW's boss Only allows so much time off so once it gets to the nitty gritty she'll need time off.

If we pull it off well still get a week in ... Sorry Jim it'll likely be August 28-sept. 5th. But I might shift it a week earlier to fit it in.. Next year will be the big trip we envisioned

Continued prayers Brent. No worries about the dates, you've got enough on your plate. I'd rather go into September as well. Unfortunately the kids starting school interferes with that possibility. I think 2016 may be a year off and then plans to head back when the Avatar stuff is open. We'll see. I think we have said we would skip a year the last 6 years. So far, the "skipping" hasn't happened.:thumbsup2

Glad you and son enjoyed the game. And don't whine about getting home at 1:30.

Sorry to hear about your daughter's injury. Hope it heals quickly and congrats on the accumulating victories for the kids' teams.

You married a smart woman. Well, other than the marrying you part of it. Good luck on getting a DVC contract.

Happy Birthday to the PP!

Thanks, DD will be OK. The swelling was starting to go down this morning. It's still pretty bruised, looks like maybe a ligament or something. Time heals all wounds. DD's team has one more game before we get to the hardest part of the schedule. If we can go 5-3 over the next 8 games it will be considered a successful run. My 7th grade team has been through the gauntlet with 2 OT wins and squeaking out a couple of wins. We get to cruise to the #2 seed in the playoffs as we have all the tie breakers. Hopefully that means we don't have to play #1 until the finals.

Morning. Working from home today. This sinus infection is kicking my butt.

Morning:wave2: Rest up and get better soon!

Well done Bambi.

How you guys won a Super Bowl with McCarthy running the show is beyond me. As an in game coach, he's worse than Denny Green ever was.

:lmao::rotfl2::lmao:

Morning guys.

Had a nice middle school basketball win last night. Dug a hole in the first quarter only to tie it up early in the 3rd and end up with an 11 point win. We finally had our last player get his first basket of the season so now everyone has scored at least once.

Have a good one.

:thumbsup2 Congrats on the victory and everyone getting into the stats column.

:thumbsup2 My DW actually thought my 21 year old nephew didn't drink until he was out of high school and argued with me for 2 weeks until I produced the picture of him at 16 I have with a beer in his hand. Of course he was bringing it to me, but we don't have to tell her that.:rotfl2::lmao::rotfl2:

:wave2: Been pretty mild here the last few days so no black ice this morning. I'm starting to see why CJ hates bridges.:faint:

Randall, did you know this?

We do have one boy who has never played competitive basketball before and he is obviously way behind everyone else. He scored his first basket, I think maybe ever, on Saturday and the boys and parents went crazy. WE ended up giving him our player of the game award and there were a few tears from him and his dad. It didn't take an hour for him to share it on Facebook. It makes me smile just typing this post.

I love this! He'll remember that for the rest of his life. :thumbsup2

Last night's dinner was ready when the Packers were up 2 scores late in the 4th. My wife (not a Packers fan) tells me the game is over, come eat. I'm not saying she jinxed it, but....

Wow, that's cruel. You might need counseling.

Pick the Pats or the Seahawks? Sorry, football season is now over. Pitchers and Catchers report in 31 days.

I have to agree with that sentiment. Unfortunately, all of the rest of my teams are not even competitive. It's going to be a long stretch until September.

We went end of July in 2008. It wasn't horrible. It was hotter than hell and rained everyday, but that's Florida for you.

I thought the crowds were manageable though. With the longer summer hours, we'd hit rope drop, take a break mid day and go back in the evening and it wasn't too bad.

I agree. We did July for 3 days a couple of years ago and thought it was manageable. Maybe not the ideal time to go, but we did everything we wanted to do.

Yeah, it turned out to be some kind of a 24 hour thing. He was up and ready to go the next morning. He was tired, but we earned our nomination for parent of the year by throwing him in the stroller and telling him to suck it up.

Well... kind of. We knew he'd be dragging after being malnourished for a day, so we had him ride in the stroller from the moment we walked out of the room that morning whether he wanted to or not. DD either walked or rode on my shoulders for most of the day. We just tried to keep from wearing him out. He was dragging a bit for the first day in the parks, but he got back to his normal self by the second day.

And people think it's hard to travel with little kids. That's how it's done!:thumbsup2

That is kind of a loaded question. I definitely plan to elaborate more on my thoughts of what DL is to me in comparison to WDW in my TR.

I enjoyed it. I'm thrilled to have finally had the opportunity to walk in the park that has Walt's fingerprints all over it. It was beautiful. It was similar to WDW, yet vastly different. If I ever have the opportunity to go back, I will in a heartbeat.

That said, it is probably going to have to be a scenario where I'm going to be in southern California for another reason or at least out west to other destinations as well and DL is a stop along the way.

But all things being equal, if I'm planning a family vacation and we want to go somewhere for a week with the main focus being on the parks and resort I'm going to pick WDW every time. Even staying on property at DL, you don't have that "Disney bubble" that you have in WDW. Heck, at WDW you can leave the fringe of the property and still feel like you're in that bubble.

It was also kind of a shock that the first glimpse I ever got of Carsland was the back side of the façade, right behind some convenience store and a hotel as we were driving in.

It sounds like you and I had similar impressions. I appreciated the history of Disneyland and was happy to have a taste of Disney there, but I'd gravitate toward WDW every time. Like you said, you can escape the rest of the world completely there. And you have more to do. Not to mention more space to handle crowds.

We got a lot of complaints when we shut down I-495 last summer, but this is exactly why we did it.

Top O the Morning Dads! Couple days of all day meetings then travel Thursday & Friday. Duck hope you feel better, congrats on the hoops results, to any others with the creeping crud - get well soon, travel safe, stay warm, and bacon, dole whips, mickey waffles and pixies dust for all this week.

Still home, this is a nasty one

Well the only reason we can go as deep into September is the lateness of Labour Day. '17 is our planned skip year, as it coincides with the end of the current contract and all the stress of a possible strike etc. Now DW hinted at skipping the beach stay next year and doing a couple of days at the "Dark Side".:scratchin.

We only booked 5 days at the parks figuring at least one day at SAB and the resort and a potential Seaworld or dark side visit to see the HP stuff. I would prefer to take a separate vacation o the dark side and stay on property at some point, but will see how it plays out.

I assume you are agreeable to not doing the beach stay? Pretty sure we will skip '16 and go back in '17. There's a lot of pressure to visit Atlantis in the near future as well. The only problem with that is the price of airfare.:scared:

I had to stop by here for a sanity check. yes, here. That should indicate the type of day that I'm having. :headache::mad::crazy2::sad::sad2::headache:

Not enough hours in the day. All sorts of deadlines looming. I feel like I'm trying to shovel myself out of a hole, but I'm using a beach shovel when I need a front loader!

My dept follows the NYSE so we were off yesterday for Martin Luther King Jr. day. I was optimistic I could get some project work done but my oldest DD swiftly dashed those expectations. Her class has to do Book Responses. They are essentially book reports with very strict rules and criteria...have to have a visual prop, can only speak for 3 minutes and are graded on all of the usual public speaking criteria.

Last one she had to do, she did a Harry Potter novel. try consolidating a 700 page book into 3 minute summary.

This time she is doing the first Kingdom Keepers book. Less challenging BUT sooo many details.I spent the entire afternoon refining her presentation. So now I'm in catch up mode. I'm looking for corporate loopholes that say I can flog employees and not get fired.:confused3

I've been getting a bunch of pressure around the Atlantis too... I love it there, but you're right, the airfare can be ridiculous... Maybe in 2016.

Good morning. I'm back home after a week away for a conference in San Diego and then 3 days at Disneyland.
Welcome back Andy... I'll be waiting for the TR. :thumbsup2

August 20-26th is what we have booked at YC. I'm pretty sure those are the final dates. We were up in the air if we were going, but DW (I look like this after,:eek:) told me to stop being stupid and that we were going. Normally she is the one that does not care much if we go. So, that's all I needed, just waiting for the 180 day mark to go crazy.:good vibes

We also are looking at DVC if we can find something and that was one of the factors, but after two very reasonable offers (in my opinion of course) got turned down, we are still waiting on that. I actually spoke with one of the sellers directly and it seems like the everyone is holding out due to the Poly coming on line and thinking it makes their points more valuable. I guess we'll see. We keep looking for something reasonable that would allow an annual trip around October/F&W.

Will you be there then?
We were planning on being in WDW from the 17th -25th but plans changed when my boss scheduled me to meet with a client whose wedding is Friday 8/21. So after meeting with them I booked the wedding, so our WDW days are now pushed up to 8/16-8/20. Those might change depending if DW can get that week off from work now. She switched positions at the beginning of last year and has the lowest seniority in her department now. But I do have a 1BR booked at BCV... maybe we can wave to each other. :rotfl::rotfl:

You can always blame it on deflated balls... :lmao:

Pretty sure you have many years of Conference Championships left with that Luck fella. We realistically only have a couple, if we're lucky, with TB12.
God I hate the Pats... cheating, arrogant, slobs.

Lots of DVC conspiracy theories out there as it relates to Poly. For what I can put together, the Poly Bungalows were point priced so high no DVC member would purchase to use them. But, DVC annual dues would off set the cash customer construction price. Then, at a future conspiracy date, the poly bungalows will decrease points, resulting in studio points increase. Thus, all those who purchased at Poly will not have enough points for their stays, which will leave more openings for those with non-Poly points at 7 months.
For the price they are charging I think DVC is getting a raw deal for basically rehabbing the Poly. Did DVC pay for the lobby renovations? I agree there will be a point allocation in a few years. Better stay in those expensive point studios now before they really cost an arm & leg to stay in.

Delaware DOT doesn't believe in building bridges that won't collapse? :confused3

Melody & I found good airfare in March one time (pre kids) and went to hotel right down the street for Atlantis for 5 days... What's the airfare price?

That game made me think that the NFL is in fact fixed.

I felt the same way after the opening round.

The only things that sound be n sync, are dirty dishes.
Tremendous intended pun, but your delivery was botched. you're better than that! :rotfl2:

‘Afternoon all…
Work has been dramatically interfering with my Dis time again. I’ll try to catch up a bit but I’ll start off with good wishes for all and congrats to all young’ens and dads alike where deserving.
I feel your pain. But I guess it's better to be busy than unemployed.

I'm just happy with 27 more years on my BWV contract. Be patient and find the contract at the right price and resort.

There certainly isn't a shortage of conspiracies. And the story remains the same..."I pay a lot for DVC, I am entitled to a a free car from Disney." I think DVC needs to include a special stupidity waiver that basically keeps the buyers from interjecting mindless nonsense about what they are entitled.

The point cost and amount of points required to stay will certainly keep me away from the Poly. Maybe you, Norm and I can pool our points and get a DISDad weekend.:rotfl:

I haven't looked that close at capacity but my 305 points won't get me very far so I probably don;t have to worry about it!
